Feeding Givens to the Feds
Mr-Fusion9 December 2016
'Watching the Detectives' is Quarles' big move on full display: to bring Raylan Givens to the FBI's attention. And it's a good move, what with the marshal's extensive history of internal investigations. In a sense, this is just an occupational hazard for a lawman who's not afraid to get his hands dirty, no matter how justly.

Spoiler alert: it doesn't work, and Quarles has been cut off from Detroit as a result. Portrait of a guy who's slowly but surely starting to unravel.

This is a massively entertaining episode, energetic and a fantastic example of Raylan's knack for maneuvering out of tight corners.

A Brilliant Display of Writing, Acting and Direction

Warning: Spoilers
Can I just say that this episode was the definition of great television. The writing was superb, as Marshal Givens gets tugged back and forth, creating so much tension from scene to scene. Characters were compelling and the acting was top notch: something that Justified seems to get right every time. Even characters who only have a few lines of dialog and may only be in a single episode feel like they are actual people, and I guess that's due to the wonderful writing and great direction. Which leads me to the direction in this episode which felt fresh and new. The long take of Winona's reaction, and Givens and Duffy conversing face to face were highlights of the episode in my opinion. It's episodes like this that remind me that Justified is one of the best shows that has ever been on T.V.
