Time has not been particularly kind to this third episode of "Mash and Peas" mostly because it picks on a single target, that of rightly and roundly forgotten TV journalist Garry Bushell and his "Bushell on the box" show that aired on late night ITV in the mid-1990s.
Lucas portrays Gary British throughout and nails the tedious humour and lack of production values that the real show had. (You can see selected episodes and bits of episodes on Youtube). Walliams appears as "actor from Eastenders" and Quentin Crisp.
The QC bit did actually make me laugh a little bit, as did a cut away to Lucas playing Jim Bowen guesting on 'The Late Show" and talking about fine art. The rest though didn't really add up to very much. Though Bushell was skewered pretty quickly and solidly, it then kept hitting the beats over and over again, without ever really taking the joke beyond that.
Again, from a visual standpoint, it was mostly static shots and there was little for Edgar Wright to show off with.
