Did You Know?

The title "The Milkmaid's Lot" refers to a quote attributed to Queen Elizabeth I while she was imprisoned in the Tower of London. Supposedly, the queen looked down from the Tower one morning, saw a young milkmaid singing to herself as she cheerfully went about her chores, and remarked, "That milkmaid's lot (in life) is better than mine." As such, the title also refers to Margaret, the "queen" of Nucky's empire: while she has a position of power and privilege, she feels trapped and longs for a simpler life. See more »

Gyp Rosetti's car appears to be a 1925-26 Packard 326, third series six Raggtop Runabout. When he arrives to talk to Deputy Ramsey it's raining outside. Vinyl windows are shown on the Raggtop - this was not an option. Clear vinyl windows didn't show up until roughly 1950. See more »

Enoch 'Nucky' Thompson: No matter what you think of me, there's no walking away. It doesn't work like that. I do it to them, or they do it to me. That's all there is.
Margaret Thompson: Those men in your office?
Enoch 'Nucky' Thompson: Either they're with me and we go to war, or they'll smile, shake my hand, and walk away. And I'll be alone. And that's as good as dead.
