Unrealistic, but entertaining
andr8714 June 2013
Warning: Spoilers
While they focused on creating a suspense drama - and they did achieve that on a very high level, some good acting is also noticeable - they forgot about putting together a believable scenario.

The ending did not resolve some major plot issues regarding the sustainability and relevance of a conspiratorial organisation revealed in the movie (they did it well in 'Eagle Eye') - yeah, I call it a movie, because that's what this is. The involvement of federal organisations is highly questionable. Of course, everyone is waiting for the 'second season' - the sequel, maybe then we will get some real answers on what and why.

'Chosen' also lacks in plausibility here and there, in the minor details. Watch it on your own risk: i's very possible to enjoy it due to the non-stop action, but also to get really annoyed by some 'why didn't they do that?' routines.

Great series, hard to stop watching them all in a row.
your_hegmon5 March 2015
Fast, fast, fast paced. Gripping. Thrilling. Loaded with moral ambiguity. While some complained about "unanswered questions" I like the fact they didn't spoon feed everything to the viewer, and we were left to wonder about the back-story. I find this more satisfying than inserting a random scene where some "villain" explains everything to the "hero" in some long-winded soliloquy. Not particularly violent, surprisingly. Very little sex: you have to be really attentive and looking for any nudity, to see it :). I also thought it was all well structured, very well filmed, and the seasons tie together brilliantly. I tried to keep my review quick and snappy as well, though this was my 10th line.

Had potential but that was it.
TheDarkKnightMatter25 January 2015
Warning: Spoilers
The annoying parts start to happen. I've only just started to watch the show (season one) and it had potential until everything got unrealistic and stupid. The annoying part piled on with everyone and everything is a Watcher, how can it be possible? The dumb wife sleeping with a man and having him move in within months and the daughter is now drawing pictures of him. Paul who shot Jacob blocked a crow bar and manage to fight with and when the gun turns on him, he cries frantically yelling you just killed my sister when he killed TWO people. Doesn't make any sense how characters can just shift change in an instant.

*******spoiler

When he found the Watchers, what happened to his gun? He runs into the house unarmed with a bunch of rich nerds sitting around eating dinner that are supposedly stone cold murderers? Huh? These goof balls were just laughing and cheering and had no fear. What if he had a gun and killed one of them? Should they be scared? I mean they did give him one. He runs to find the daughter and didn't kick the door down right away but instead he kept talking and then gets tackled and knocks out.

I would like to always insert myself into the scenario and imagine what I would of done, I would of went in there and shot one of them as they thought of it as a joke, that I mean business. Afterwards take a hostage to get someone talking and always survey the area first to see who's behind you or not.

There's so much inconsistency with how a person should act in these type of scenarios. One point they are willing to help, like the gangsters, then they turn into preacher's preaching about my life isn't as valuable. Give me a break! You're a killer/gangster, it's what your do! The ex- wife is frantic and starts crying even harder when she is handed a gun. She looks at it and violently shakes worst than a case of severe Parkinson. Someone is trying to hurt you and you have a panic attack when you're handed a gun to protect yourself?! WHAT THE ****! Then in the basement, you have a change of heart and ready to be a killer now. There goes the character flip flopping again.

This show had great potential from watching episode one, I was on the edge of my seat just sucked in cause this is my type of thriller. Then it took a turn for the worst. Inconsistency with character structure destroyed it all with annoying unbelievable concept of a secret society having access to everything is an over kill. It's too unrealistic, it's not clever either because this storyline has been done over and abused. Why not just call Jack Bauer?

Sorry for any errors, was on a tablet so please excuse me.

Incredible, how does the world not know about this yet?
Stebthefirst24 January 2013
I've used IMDb for years, I've never once had the urge to write a review, or rate anything until now. The fact this doesn't have any votes yet, or any reviews blows my mind. That said, I'll keep it short and simple though, and please, spread the word about this amazing series and crackle for bringing it to us.

Chosen is a gripping, dark, and gritty series that not only keeps you in suspense constantly, it psychologically melts you and your emotions with every episode. As the plot thickens, your compelled to watch the next episode, and it feels like at any second a major plot twist can happen.

It's an on the edge of your seat ride that keeps you begging for more, and this is only the first season as the series aired just last week.

I cannot wait for season 2 to air, it's been a fantastic ride so far and I'm nearly frothing at the mouth to see what comes next, my mind is just filled with possibilities, which I normally never have with ANY TV series.

Fantastic Series, 10 / 10, loved it, and can't wait for more, you owe to yourself to check out Chosen.

Great mini-series, lots of suspense!
HazzardsDuke27 April 2014
Going into this mini-series I was somewhat skeptically, especially with the series being aired on Crackle. Boy, was I surprised. The series is well thought out and has the acting standouts (Milo Ventimiglia, Chad Michael Murray, Rose McGowan, Caitlin Carmichael) and production value to be expected of a series on a major network. I believe Chosen would attract those who enjoy thrillers, dramas and action-type series.

Speaking for myself, once I started watching the series this spring, I binge watched all 3 seasons (6 episodes in each) in the matter of 5 days. I haven't felt the this sort of anticipation since watching LOST years ago.

To anyone reading this review, I say give it a shot. Its a free series online and the time commitment is minimal. I think you'll enjoy it.

Here's hoping for more seasons soon!

The show is going downwards..
ivancho1030 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, this TV series is not your typical one. Every season is 6 episodes which are 20 minutes long and are released simultaneously. That said, we can look at the show more like separate 2 hour movies.

The first season was excellent. I really liked the intensity and the suspense. Everything was really fast-paced and it was interesting to watch. The ending was also very good. It was no surprise to me that it was renewed for a second season. I really waited forward to seeing the the next episodes.

Although I had bigger hopes for it, I have to say it was OK. The ending, on the other hand, was shocking and wrong. Why did they kill of the main character in the show? I think this is where the ratings got lower. The show lost it without Milo.

The third season was more or less a mess. I may check out the fourth season if there is one but just to see where the show is going, not because I'm enjoying it very much.

P.S - I am surprised why the show isn't classified as a Thriller or an Action. Can somebody explain?

As I live outside of the US, I had no idea this was a series. I watched it as a movie and, as such, it was one of the best films I have seen in a long time. Milo Ventimiglia holds it all together. I predict future acting awards for him. The supporting actors also do well. The story will pull you in from the very beginning.

Briefly, those chosen must perform for the watchers, who, apparently, have the god-like ability to know all and see all. We are never really informed as to who the watchers actually are, only that they use a system of cameras to watch those chosen murder for their amusement. If there is a weak point, it is accepting the power of the watchers.

This film may slip under the radar, but it should not. If you have not seen the series, watch this film. I rarely rate films this highly, but, trust me, this one deserves it.

Too fast paced
VanillaLimeCoke10 November 2013
Warning: Spoilers
I saw this on CRACKLE and must admit it was interesting. It's everything that I like in a mini series but it's just too fast paced.

Basically a lawyer / father is going through a divorce and it isn't going well. Just whilst at the end of the visit, an s-bomb slips whilst on the phone, no breakfast except cake for his daughter, and the mom is early and finds out about this. She informs him of a soccer practice he should attend, before leaving. Of course, that's when the action starts. The lawyer Ian Mitchell finds an expensive looking box at his doorstep with a gun and photo of some dentist with expiration date a couple days away. Police really don't help him.

As the series goes on we learn more people are involved in this sick game, and even targets. When they don't comply their family is taken from them like our main antagonist.

While the series is high on octane fuel it just never seems to offer much answers or background information.

And the ending is a bit disappointing. It's like it builds up to all this suspense and willpower but the lawyer goes through with it anyway.

Watch maybe in Season 2 it will prove the viewers wrong. I just hope Season 2 brings us more info like how the box is made.

Like a boat adrift
romibanshee12 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The first season is quite interesting, has suspense, a promising story and two good performances (Milo Ventimiglia and Diedrich Bader). Despite Nicky Whealan's insipid character, it could have become a popular thriller. I'm giving it a quite generous rating for it.

Sadly, the change of focus to Jacob Orr as the leading guy was a risky move that didn't work well. The character is not as solid as Ian Mitchell (who we see in a couple of Season 2 scenes that are just filler), Chad Michael Murray fails to make him anything other than dull and far-fetched, and the abundance of unanswered questions or unexplained inconsistencies don't help. The show becomes a vessel in the sea without a port of departure or a particular destination in mind. I didn't even try to watch the third season because I didn't hope they could plot the course. Both viewers and network execs can get tired of a story they can't make sense of...and that's the reason why Season 4 won't probably be. I feel a bit sad for Milo Ventimiglia for that.

Gripping suspense thriller with excellent performances
Reddzeplin31 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
This is one of those shows that leaves you wanting the next episode every time. I started watching yesterday and I'm halfway through the season today. And it's free with no commercials on Crackle? How does that work, but all the better for us "watchers." The acting is excellent and intense, particularly Milo Ventimiglia as the lead, and the structure of the plot leads to excellent cameos and supporting roles (Diedrich Bader from Office Space! I love that guy!). So if you're willing to suspend your disbelief and enjoy so not so mindless action and suspense, then I strongly recommend the show. I kind of want to see the plot expand to other parts of the country, outside of LA. Am I the only one who wants to see some white-collars hunting each other in the Florida swamps, or the midwestern suburbs. I think that would be creepy and add another layer of awesome to an already kickass show.

Good series, bad ending
gagaismyprincess21 July 2019
I really enjoyed the series, it was super fast paced and easy to watch, since each ep was only 20 minutes. The plot was interesting, but the ending seemed rushed, giving little to no explanation of why/who and how it all happened. I had rated it 9 and changed it to a 7 after the final episode

Pleasant surprise
jkrueger8411 May 2013
I was bored at work when I stumbled upon this fantastic little series. I was expecting next to nothing from this. Mostly hoping to kill some time with anything that was moderately interesting. But, was pleasantly surprised. Ended up watching the whole series in one sitting.

Didn't care for his acting in Heroes, but, he plays the part well here. Short, quick, and exciting. Always leaves you waiting for the next episode.

Definitely hope crackle starts pumping out some more free shows of this quality. Lets get some fanfare for a SEASON 2!!!!

If you buy the premise then it's o.k.
TexAdams20 July 2013
Warning: Spoilers
Although somewhat cliché, the story flows intelligently and the acting is good. I almost stopped watching at the beginning when after being shot at he goes to work and his secretary calls him on his cell and their conversation goes like this: Lawyer: "Yeah" Secretary: "Are you close?" Lawyer: "Yeah, I'm downstairs, why?" Secretary: "Mr. Valverde's waiting for you. Lawyer: "Already?" Secretary: "He's been here for thirty minutes" in a hushed voice she says, "He ate all of the Skittles". I guess skittles are really important to him.

I just couldn't get past the premise of a bunch of rich people getting their jollies off of watching random people killing other random people and cameras are placed everywhere their victims/targets happen to be so they can watch. Phone calls are intercepted, cops are impersonated and they get lowlifes to set it up, all while keeping it a secret. If you can believe that then this may be for you.

Really Excellent !
star044487330 April 2014
I have to say this mini series is fantastic.May be some little parts of it copied and story seem a little bit Stereotypical but acting is fantastic and it will thrill you and force you to have more and more.I really recommend everybody to see this exciting series. Milo Ventimiglia is another reason that make this series worth to see. And other cast are really good too.You know this just make you watch every episode and say :Why this cast are not priced as they worth? the movie has a fast pace and gets you in the movie in first episode and don't let you stop thinking about it so :watch it! watch it!

yeah.just watch it to understand what am I saying!!!!

To All haters it is pretty good if....
Dableo2 March 2013
Many reviews on the show say it is bad not working accordingly and just hate all over it I'll make it as simple as that there is two reasons to watch the show.

1- If You're a fan of Milo Ventimiglia from heroes then U'll love the damn thing so much.

2- Secondly, if u want a change and a hint of adrenaline rush from excitement then this is the show for u If u are someone who watches the show just to find the extreme technicalities and love shows with super sleek scripts and classic editing and directing well I can't imagine why did u even come to this review :p (Joking).

Overall, It is a very short mini series each episode is like 20min , so not a lot of your time is wasted and as to me no time was wasted on this fine piece from crackle with that hint of excitement and adrenaline refresh, is definitely not a regret.

Youssef :)

TV That Keeps You Totally On Edge
flatironmikenyc-127 May 2015
Well, I have had Crackle on my list of video websites for ages but never really bother with it much at all when I simply stumbled onto Chosen and gobbled the entire 3 seasons in 2 daze of delicious horror of what would happen next. The series is as bizarre as a zombie movie, but the horror of The Game so well pulled off, that reality is left behind and you are pulled into The Horror of Being The Watcher, Horrified and Immediately Wanting More Blood.

Some of the prior reviews tried to say the show was 'off' because it could not happen in real life. Probably, let's hope! But this is fiction and entertainment and, let's face it, sex and violence sells to the base core of the American public and this one is horrible and yet makes you think and re-think as the story unfolds as to 'what-if' as you identify with the protagonist of the moment only to have him/her killed by the next turn of the corner. I am EAGERLY looking forward to Season 4 which has yet to appear!

Hats off to Crackle on pulling this off and it's a real shame it wasn't The Vehicle it needs to make waves and be a major video provider.

A chosen masterpiece
Br4ve-trave1or20 November 2015
There's nothing like stumbling upon a hidden gem. Maybe your like me you've seen so many good shows what else could there be that could blow your mind or maybe your searching for an incredible show...well here it is. For FREE!

It took me awhile to find this gem because it's not on Netflix or Amazon or TV but crackle. But here's the great news. Crackle is free and this series has no commercials and minimal time commitment(3 seasons 6 episodes in each). This is as addictive as TV gets. Definition of binge but I must warn you it is very dark and violent. The suspense and intrigue are delicious and the drama and thriller aspect cause for a edge of your seat viewing experience. This is the best show you've never heard of period. Each season improves and the third is the best now imagine this the first is amazing!!! BTW renewed for a fourth coming soon. Enjoy Caio

This Show Is A-1
reggiemiller-590774 January 2023
I cannot believe that they canceled this series. I have been avoiding this show for years because of the low rating and bad reviews. However I am running out of things to watch so I decided to give it a shot and boy am I glad I did! The storyline is superb, the FX are good, and the acting is decent. There are a few parts that the actors failed to deliver a perfect performance but all in all the acting was just fine. I truly hope that the network decides to bring it back. With this style of a show they could plug in different actors at any time and make it work. Anyway I just love this show! PLEASE CRACKLE BRING IT BACK!

So Many Flaws!
roxmewild6 September 2022
The concept was interesting and I have watched simlair shows and movies using it! However this show has so many flaws it reduces the entertainment value greatly! I can accept one or two as poetic liscence for the good of the story but the flaws in this show come so hard and fast it makes it difficult! One of the many but one that kinda stood out as crazy was when his daughter was abducted and he was beaten and had his hands tied and they shot is car tyre as they left, not only did Milo manage to change his tyre with both hands tied together but he also managed to drive his car many miles back to his wife's house with his hands closely tied! I mean come on that is so ridiculous! The flaws continue but I will let you watch and choose your own favourite ones! The other negative is why they chose to make each episode so dam short 15-20 min in length is an absurdly short episode ! I am presently on episode 5 the suspense has long gone due to the poor writing. I am basically watching as I am interested to see how they plan to end the show not going to hold my breath that it will be a good one as the show itself is not but I am curious.

Riveting - Stays With You!
kknowles-791699 January 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I do not typically enjoy thrillers. I was drawn to this because I am a Chad Michael Murray fan and he did not disappoint. He plays a much different role than he did in One Tree Hill but I thought he really pulled it off and still showed as a "good hero character" - just with much more edge.

I really liked the chemistry between him and Sarah Roemer and I was really drawn to see where the story would take him. I found the character study of what happens to someone in a situation like this fascinating. And - the Season 3 ending - wow - moving and sad - I've never seen such a "peaceful" murder.

Note - for the Cinderella Story / One Tree Hill set - this is definitely not a family friendly show - the sex scene is much more realistic and the violence is hard to watch, esp. late at night. Also - watching the show with the ads on Crackle is kind of annoying - but worth it. I kind of want to see a Season 4 if it ever comes out but I also liked how they ended Season 3 - might be good to just to leave it where it is.

Worthy of Binge watching
mtjohnson-610018 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
I wish I had stumbled on to this series sooner it is a great find. The acting and writing are both great and the character development is on par. This is a thriller not a documentary so do keep in mind dramatic license is in place and not every scene or the plot in general is 100% realistic. If you are in the mood for a gritty, edge of your seat thriller where you cant guess what is going to happen from one moment to the next, then give this a try.

how do you end it?
playmkr27823 February 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Two seasons and the series has been great. But much like Dexter how are they going to be able to end this series in a way that is justified? If they nail an ending at some point it will go down as a great original series in my opinion. If the ending is weak it will give it a lame finish.

I loved Dexter and to this day still love it but when the ending came around it just seemed like it was undecided and weak.

I loved Chuck and still do but that ending seemed forced as if they found out they were going to be canceled late in the last season and decided to create an ending. Chuck, to their credit, did a decent job with that ending.

Hopefully Chosen will have similar success and I hope someone goes all Rambo 2 and some point.

Preposterous
RaidonD29 January 2013
From a preposterous premise Ben Ketai and Ryan Lewis concocted a rather ho-hum suspense thriller. Without giving away much here, this is loosely based on a Twilight Zone episode, with a little of that Michael Douglas movie "The Game" thrown in for good measure - a connect-the-numbers kind of plot which lives mostly by Milo Ventimiglia's performance and a few necessary cliff hangers since this is really a movie chopped apart into six parts...eh, rather "gangster" in its set up and not believable. As "The Twilight Zone" has taught us all, the moral transformation of the key progenitor should matter more than the quasi-suspenseful machinations of the incredulous plot. If you care for some such structure, watch "The Booth at the End" instead.

A lot fewer than 100 BULLETS for Chosen
Benno_Hansen4 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Anyone who likes this series need to hurry up and read the "100 BULLETS" comic books. Because Chosen is ripping it off big time.

Except they ruined the plot. In the comic, the secret organisation seems to have an agenda beyond just morbid entertainment. In the comic, the people given a suitcase has personal motivation to kill their targets. "How far would you go for revenge? If you were given a chance at deadly retribution with a guarantee that the law could not touch you, would you take it?"

In Chosen, we just get random people coerced into killing other random people. I was waiting for dark secrets of the characters to emerge. Nothing came. They really are just in the "game" for the entertainment of some perverse and resourceful people. At the end of the day it's just silly.

Given that they have had quite a few years to rip off 100 BULLETS properly and even upgrade it, I would have enjoyed some more "surveillance society paranoia" type plot twists. Very little of that though.
