Storyline

Susan speaks to a man who claims he is the suspect's psychiatrist and to whom she unwittingly gives her reasons for seeing him. She is lucky to escape and soon realises she has met the murderer but when the police are called to the house he has vanished. She visits Cavendish for more information, only to find that he too has been killed but when she takes her findings to Wainwright he is again dismissive. Research leads the women to find that the serial killer's first victim was Julie Oakwood during the war, and from the leads this gives, Susan makes a final journey to unmask the culprit. Absorbing, gripping and thrilling, a successful conclusion.

Cracking a Killer's code rounds off with a thrilling episode. What I always loved about this show was it dared to be different, it told a very different kind of story, the characters were certainly different, nothing run of the mill about any of them, and the format was definitely original.

There are no loud mouthed cops, no career individuals, just a group of four putting their heads together, using logic and intelligence to trap a sadistic killer.

Part three is edge of the seat viewing, Susan enters into some truly dark places, as her life suddenly goes from the safe and mundane to scary and life threatening. The unfolding of the story is rather excellent, I loved the way the quartet had to keep digging and seeking the truth, but this was all about the dramatic ending, which was skilfully played out.

Plaudits once again to Anna Maxwell Martin, but special mention to Steven Robertson (Crowley) who was incredibly good, very sinister.

I loved it. 9/10
