Rik Mayall Comedy Genius – Take a delve into the creative mind of a comic icon in Mark Searby’s new book

  • HeyUGuys
Rik Mayall wasn’t just a comedy genius, he was at the fundamental core of British comedy from the 80s’ until his untimely death. ‘Al Pacino: The Movies Behind The Man’ author and broadcaster, Mark Searby sheds light into the creative work of the man in his new book ‘Rik Mayall: Comedy Genius’.

With a career born from frustrations, opinions and political strains of the working class in the 1980s, Mayall and a motley crew of young fresh talent led the uprising of alternative comedy. Taking a lead from Punk music, they took no prisoners. It was politically incorrect, anarchic and stuck two fingers up to the establishment and furthermore, it stood for something. In its new form, Mayall and his compadres had made comedy into a vessel to speak freely and represent the feelings of a fresh, passionate and raw new generation, something that has since been remixed

How Shia Labeouf Became a Box Office Star Again
Call it the Shianaissance, but Shia Labeouf is igniting an indie box office revival.

Labeouf further proved his on-screen bankability last weekend as his autobiographical drama “Honey Boy” kicked off above expectations, garnering $288,824 from four venues in New York and Los Angeles. That haul marks one of the best starts for a platform release this year with ticket sales equating $72,206 per location. Other strong theater averages in 2019 include A24’s “The Farewell”, Disney’s “Avengers: Endgame” and Neon’s “Parasite”.

“It really shows how important a slow theatrical rollout can be,” said Paul Dergarabedian, a senior media analyst with Comscore. “The time of year matters as well. We are in the heart of awards season. ‘Honey Boy’ isn’t duking it out with big named blockbusters in a wide release, it’s doing its own thing.”

Honey Boy” continues a strong box office showing for Labeouf, whose feel-good film “The Peanut Butter Falcon

Each and every April for the last 16 years, Tribeca has showcased a wife variety of (mostly) independent movies, some of which can struggle to see the light of day, while others fare better and break through. Still, there’s always a gem or two in the lineup, along with even the occasional Academy Award nominee. That should still be the case in 2019, so now is a solid time to take a look at some of what Tribeca has to offer for this year. Last year, two of the best movies ever to play the festival hit in All About Nina and Disobedience. They were joined by the

British Actresses Launch Campaign for Equal Representation on Stage and Screen

With two-thirds of screen time going to men, actresses in the UK turned activists this week and launched the Equal Representation for Actresses (Era) campaign for gender equality in television, film, and theater. Dozens of actresses and sympathetic actors turned up for the speeches at BAFTA in London wearing the Era 50:50 pin which has already been paraded on the red carpet by Emma Thompson and Emma Watson.

The crowd at the launch included Lily James, Gemma Arterton, Ophelia Lovibon, and James Nesbitt. Olivia Colman introduced the two founders of Era, Polly Kemp and Elizabeth Berrington, who started the debate two years ago when a group of actresses met in London’s Soho and began to question the casting and creative decisions made by programmers and film-funders, which resulted in such an unequal share of screen time and employment opportunities. A British casting director confessed that in the last three years,

Ed Helms & Amanda Seyfried in First Trailer for Comedy 'The Clapper'

"Who is The Clapper?" Momentum Pictures has debuted an official trailer for an indie comedy titled The Clapper, the latest from director Dito Montiel (A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints, Fighting, The Son of No One, Man Down). The Clapper is about a man, played by Ed Helms, who enjoys his job to be paid to fill seats in infomercial audiences. But when a talk late night TV talk show host discovers and makes fun of him, his whole life gets turned upside-down. Very weird concept for a film, but this trailer actually makes it look kind of amusing, with a sweet side. The cast includes Amanda Seyfried, Tracy Morgan, P.J. Byrne, Charles Halford, and Leah Remini. This probably isn't what you're expecting, but doesn't look too bad. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Dito Montiel's The Clapper, direct from YouTube: Eddie is a guy who gets paid
