We've seen a Bad Santa and a Bad Teacher. Now we have "Bad Judge", perhaps an ill-titled show that is really funny. It seems many viewers rejected this show after viewing the first episode--a common mistake. Rebecca Wright is much more than the bed-hopping, careless woman many saw in the pilot.
As we discover, there is something she desires more than pleasure--it's justice, even at the cost of bending the rules (of law, society or order). She not only flaunts the rules of propriety; she flaunts the common, unspoken rules of society, like "go along with the crowd" and "don't rock the boat". That makes her a rebel, but she has a cause.
She also has a remarkable track record--in law school, as an attorney, and (in the eyes of her managing judge) on the bench.
She also happens to be damn funny and quite attractive. This is "New Girl" but with a more traditional comic style, featuring punch lines more that odd behavior. From what I have read, this show is being cancelled, but I am a fan of Kate Walsh now.
How can so many people watch Judge Judy--a totally unfunny woman with very little civility in her nature--when there's a Judge Wright who is hilarious, compassionate and surrounded by other actors who are funny in their own wrights?

I knew about this series when it was airing on TV during the 2014/2015 season but for some reason I never got around to watching any of it.
The reason I got interested in this show was for Kate Walsh. I had seen her in Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice but it was hearing her interviews and even on the Nerdist podcast and hearing how funny she was that got me interested in watching this.
I then heard this show got cancelled and then I just let it slide in lieu of the long list of things I want to watch but I just saw the name again recently and decide to give it ago.
Now I'm just pis*ed!
This show is bloody awesome!
The laughs were definitely there, from Kate Walsh and the rest of the equally awesome cast (Tone Bell, John Ducey, Ryan Hansen, Miguel Sandoval and Amy Rhodes). The cast would probably have to be one of the things I liked most about this show; how much chemistry they had and how they all worked well together and in different duos and groups throughout the series.
As much as I liked it it probably wouldn't be something I go back and watch again but I most definitely would have watched a second season!
It's well written, it's funny, there's character growth (and not so much that it's a different character by the end) and it's just something laidback and enjoyable to watch.
CHAPPY THINKS that the only bad thing about this show was this it was cancelled!

This new NBC comedy drama "Bad Judge" is a little outrageous and far out for the way it shows the life of a professional woman, as really most judges probably don't live like this. Anyway it has Kate Walsh as Rebecca Wright a hard partying, hard living, outspoken Los Angeles, California judge who marches to the beat of her own drum. The series focus is on how Rebecca balances her life and cases all within the criminal court justice system. And plus the show does showcase the hard love life of Rebecca's as it's sex charged with sleeping around and one night stands plus it's a treat to see the Kate Walsh character of Rebecca wearing plenty and many sexy colored bras! Overall a series that doesn't take itself to serious, anyway it's one to watch for outrageous fun and it's a plus to see the sexy Kate Walsh.
Now that Bad teacher is canceled you can watch Bad Judge instead!
It's a show about a sexually liberal woman who happens to be a ...judge! She has sex in her office (and everywhere else), she uses the court's bailiff to dispose her used pregnancy test, and...well..you can imagine the rest.
The premise is impossible, so it's all about how funny it actually is.
Will Ferrel serves as an executive producer so you can understand the type of jokes you get with this. After you get pass the "she is a judge" part there ain't so many jokes to have fun with. With these professional comedians it feels more like a sketch of "Funny or die" or something.
Of course the good (erase that) bad judge has also a big heart. Like bad teacher (the series) if you ever were watching the show. She cares about the children of the people who gets behind bars.
Overall: Not bad bad. But I think the premise will worn out pretty quick.

While (as another reviewer pointed out) California judges are elected, most of them are appointed when there is a vacancy and face only a re-election where they are rarely opposed.
But Kate Walsh's character goes WAY over the line. Putting a fire ax into a tire would have been a criminal act -- the sort of thing that gets a judge up before the review board, probably dismissed if not disbarred as well.
The worst part is Kate Walsh has generally played beautiful, classy women and this character is a tramp.
The show has a judge routinely getting drunk (borderline alcoholic), breaking laws and abusing authority.
If you can suspend disbelief, you can enjoy it.
