It could have been better!

Warning: Spoilers
I was looking forward to this episode. I am always excited whenever Tim, the most under rated agent, has an episode focused on him. And to finally meet his father is certainly a very big deal.

Unfortunately, it was not as good as expected and particularly after the spectacular show last week, Squall was an epic fail. It was as if the writers and producers finally noticed that they were overlooking McGee and decided to cram an episode all about him. That in itself is OK but there was so many things going on at the same time - punctual Tim being late, meeting dad, dad having cancer, Tim is in big brother program, little brother was troubled by bullies, so many other things going on, and on top of that, solving a murder case. As a result, the show was very chaotic.

My biggest peeves however are the following

1. I think it is in very poor taste to compare a decorated Admiral dad to that of a grade school bully. To even consider that line was very irritating. Fine, daddy might be a bully and a pain, but it can be argued that it was necessary for him to achieve his position in the navy and considering that it worked so well, he cant switched it off even with his children.

2. Big brother program and bullying are very important topics. Showing them in this episode along with all other things going on somehow belittles their importance. It would have been better if they showcased it in another episode and in fact it would have been a great scene if Tim convinced Tony to join in too, as Tony is not particularly good with kids.

3. Gibbs is a man of few words, and few words he may be, he is still a direct and no-nonsense guy. Cryptic talk is not his style. But in this episode, there are not only 1 but 2 scenes where Tim has to ask Gibbs if he was talking about the father or the big brother situation. Not his style at all.

4. Case was so unsatisfying. I think this is the lamest case ever; the clues don't add up, the motives and actions of everyone are unsatisfying. I mean, if a killer has to make an effort of throwing a tablet in the garbage, the least he could have done was destroy it to smithereens too or reformat or something. Hello, even my 14-year old niece knows that electronics can be traced. And the most unconvincing part, the first suspect was a uncoordinated, sickly druggie who managed to knocked out Stan Burley. An encounter with a healthy, smart and alert agent over a weak druggie and the agent was knocked out? The idea was preposterous and laughable.

I love watching NCIS, from the very first season. Before, i was the only one of my acquaintance to see the show and when I described it to them, I have to say that it is like CSI but for the navy. The show has gone a long way since then.

I have to admit that I watched all episodes more than once and my favorites more than twice. I think this episode will be an exception, because I will never want to watch it ever again. I hope this is not an indication of things to come. NCIS has survived and succeeded all this time because it is smart and has managed to surprise its viewers over and over again. But this episode is a train wreck. Which is a shame.
