The Epic of Detective Mandy: Book One - Satan Claus (TV Movie 1989)
The Epic of Detective Mandy: Book Two - Spoof of the Living Dead (TV Movie 1991)
Superman II (1980)
Satan Claus attempts to trap Detective Mandy in a flat rectangular prison floating through space, identical to the one used to trap General Zod, Ursa and Non in Superman II (1980).- Detective Mandy's surrender to the resistance fighters in wooded compound, so he can speak with their leader, Jerry Jabba, is done in a manner similar to Luke Skywalker's surrender to Imperial forces on Endor in order to approach Darth Vader.
Aliens (1986)
The body movements and high-pitched screeches of Elf of Doom #2 were based on the soldier alien creatures in Aliens (1986).Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991)
When Detective Mandy devolves to brutally butcher his wife's new lover, who has challenged Mandy to a fight, is based on Sarah Connor's similar change to become more like her nemesis, even prompting Mandy's Wife to declare he is no better than Satan Claus, as Sarah Connor faces in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991).The Last of the Mohicans (1992)
Numerous references to The Last of the Mohicans (1992) and music score from that film used extensively. The actions by Detective Mandy and Mandy's Wife throughout the major battle scene mimic those of Nathaniel/Hawkeye and Cora during the massacre and river escape, protecting each other amid the fighting.
It's a Wonderful Life (1946)
During the celebration victory party, characters are announced like they are in It's a Wonderful Life (1946). Mandy's brother, Detective Randy, returning from the dead, quiets everyone and raises a toast to his little brother Mandy, "the richest man in town," just as Harry Bailey does in It's a Wonderful Life (1946) and everyone sings to Auld Lang Syne from the movie.Rocky (1976)
Both the resistance soldier training sequence and the extended fist-fight between Detective Mandy and Satan Claus spoof similar scenes in Rocky (1977) (the training montage and Rocky-Apollo Creed fight), complete with similar reaction cutaways used of Rocky's supporters, and use the music score from those scenes in Rocky (1976). In addition, Mandy's Wife inspires Mandy to get up and continue fighting, as Adrian did in Rocky (1976).Cosmos (TV Mini Series 1980)
The Old Bum character is a satire of astrophysicist Carl Sagan and his voice, as well as his enthusiasm for "billions and billions" of stars, right before Mandy beats him up.Platoon (1986)
When Detective Mandy is escaping on the boat, but looks back to see Kato the Great Zombie Hunter running in slow motion, being chased by zombies, it is a parody of the death of Sgt. Elias in Platoon (1986), including the slow motion running, repeated falls and final lunge with the arms in the air.Glory (1989)
Numerous references to Glory (1989) and music score used for key scenes. The soldier training spoofs the training in Glory (1989), the pre-battle discussion between Detective Mandy and Jerry Jabba is based on pre-battle reflections between Col. Robert Gould Shaw and Private Trip prior to the attack on Fort Wagner, and Mandy's selfless charge onto the battlefield to motivate his troops to break cover spoofs Col. Shaw's doing so, including Detective Dave taking up Mandy's machete, being gunned down and falling onto Mandy's body, as Private Trip does when Shaw is killed. This is all followed by an emotional, but disastrous charge by the resistance soldiers, in the same way the 54th Massachusetts Regiment does so after Col. Shaw and Private Trip are killed in Glory (1989).
