George Lucas and Lucasfilm's Star Wars universe has spawned many iconic stories and characters since its debut, which includes some noteworthy voice-acted performances. While the franchise is understandably best known as a live-action world, voiceover work brings another exciting layer to this IP's imaginative characters.
Animated TV shows like The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels certainly carry the bulk of these standout performances, but even the live-action productions depend on compelling voice acting to some extent. From modern fan-favorite successes like Ashley Eckstein's original take on Ahsoka Tano to the timeless work of James Earl Jones as Darth Vader, Star Wars has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to talented voice actors.

Bo-Katan's acquisition of the Darksaber in The Mandalorian season 3 is linked to Mandalorian history and symbolism. The moment when Bo-Katan gets the Darksaber directly echoes its creator, Tarre Vizsla, and his former statue that stood on Mandalore. Despite its destruction, the Darksaber's final fight in the hands of Bo-Katan symbolizes its true purpose among the Mandalorians.
The handling of the Darksaber in The Mandalorian season 3 is one of the season's most controversial storylines, but one key Star Wars connection highlights the deep significance of the weapon's exchange. The history of the Darksaber is complicated, one that's almost as complex as greater Mandalorian history itself. Beginning with its creator, the first Mandalorian Jedi Tarre Vizsla, the Darksaber has traded hands many times. It eventually fell into the Mandalorian Din Djarin's possession, and in The Mandalorian season 3, it was again exchanged into Bo-Katan Kryze's hands.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi TV show added greatly to A New Hope, enhancing the legacy of the first Star Wars movie. From changes in Obi-Wan's character to his relationships with other characters, many of the seeds for A New Hope were planted in the show. Iconic events such as Obi-Wan's tragic death now carry more meaning because of the Disney+ TV show.
When the Obi-Wan Kenobi television series was released on Disney+ in 2022, it added a great deal to the story that Star Wars was telling about Obi-Wan's character. Not only did it expand on this story, but it retroactively added to the story that A New Hope was telling back at the dawn of the franchise. This has not only changed the movie for the better in small but noticeable ways, but the character as well.
This is not the first time that Obi-Wan's life has been expanded upon in canon.

It isn’t every day that you find out that fans are making a fuss about a character’s armor in a Star Wars movie or series. However, that is exactly what happened when Katee Sackhoff first portrayed the role of Bo-Katan Kryze in The Mandalorian.

Quick Links Who Are the Handmaidens? The Show Could Adapt E.K. Johnston's Padme Novels What Original Stories Could This Show Tell? The Handmaidens of Amidala are a crucial and underappreciated group in Star Wars movies and TV shows. The books and comics provide a perfect template for a new Star Wars spinoff. A show about the Handmaidens could improve on Padme's story even further.
Star Wars TV shows tend not to explore entirely new stories, especially in more recent years. Instead, they focus on filling in gaps in the canon, such as the period Obi-Wan spent wandering the desert on Tatooine or Ahsoka's whereabouts during the era between the conclusion of Star Wars Rebels and the beginning of the original trilogy. Alternatively, they check out new cultures that have been referenced often in the past but never quite fleshed out fully, such as Mandalorians.

The Acolyte explores other Force cults beyond the Jedi and Sith, introducing new powerful groups in the galaxy. Characters like Mother Aniseya and Mae offer fresh perspectives, straying from traditional light side and dark side views. Set in the High Republic era, The Acolyte brings independence-seeking witches and mysterious Sith to the forefront.
The first trailer for The Acolyte proves the series has a much broader view of the Force than the dogmatic view of the Jedi and the Sith. Initially, many expected The Acolyte to be Star Wars’ first Sith-centered series, focusing on how the Sith cult survived unnoticed by the Jedi for a millennium. And while there was certainly a mysterious unnamed Sith at the end of the trailer, the vast majority of The Acolyte’s revealed cast are Jedi. The Jedi seem busy fighting the mysterious Sith, while Amanda Stenberg’s Mae character may end up changing the franchise forever.

"Star Wars" is filled with memorable side characters, weird little guys who populate the galaxy and make it feel like a massive, lived-in place, where everyone has a story to tell.
Take the fan-favorite pirate Hondo Ohnaka. He was first introduced in "The Clone Wars," and named after "Godzilla" director Ishiro Honda and actor Seiji Onaka. Hondo was something the movies had alluded to but not actually shown — a pirate scoundrel. Sure, we'd seen parts of that lifestyle, like with Lando and Boba Fett, but the latter had barely any lines or anything to do and the former didn't do much piracy. Hondo, on the other hand, was introduced as a resourceful scum, a guy willing to work with anyone on any side as long as there was profit. At one point he kidnapped Count Dooku (which not even the Republic managed to do), as well as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker,...

The Empire was intentionally oppressive and corrupt, leading to societal chaos and rebellion against its rule. Even low-ranking Imperials like Captain Mann engaged in underhanded tactics, showcasing the greed and corruption within the Empire's ranks. Palpatine strategically allowed the Empire to be corrupt to increase the dark side's presence, ultimately leading to its downfall without the Death Star's control.
Star Wars continues to showcase the major flaw in the Empire Palpatine had carefully crafted. Ever since A New Hope’s first shot of the Tantive IV fleeing Vader’s Star Destroyer, it was clear George Lucas intended the Empire to be imposing and oppressive. Imperial laws seemed to get increasingly worse as the Empire squeezed the galaxy dry. The latest episode of Star Wars: The Bad Batch features a nod to Dave Filoni, who serves as Lucasfilm's Chief Creative Officer as well as a writer and executive producer on the animated series.
In a trivia facts article shared by StarWars.com, Clone commander Wolffe reappeared in the new episode, and his armor featured art of a wolf on his shoulder. Wolves are famously Dave Filoni's favorite animal, and he's included nods to the creatures in most of his work in a galaxy far, far away. The Bad Batch Season 3 episodes "Infiltration" and "Extraction," arrived on Disney+ in a double bill that brought back some old allies and enemies of Clone Force 99. Ahsoka Tano is a very strong Jedi, but her greatest Force feat went completely missed by most Star Wars viewers. In Star Wars Rebels, Ahsoka is able to deflect a lightning attack from Darth Sidious with her bare hands, which is an incredible Force feat. While Ahsoka couldn't hold the attack for long, this still proves her strength, as well as her strategy in buying time for Ezra Bridger and herself.
There’s no doubt that Ahsoka Tano is a strong Jedi, but her most impressive feat in Star Wars Rebels has been overlooked multiple times. The character of Ahsoka Tano was developed by Dave Filoni for Star Wars: The Clone Wars, where she was introduced as the Padawan to Anakin Skywalker. Heed my warning: never ask a "Star Wars" animation fan if you should watch shows like "The Clone Wars" and "Star Wars Rebels" unless you're prepared to get your ear talked off. For all of the franchise's high points in live-action, something about animation just fits a galaxy far, far away smoother than Lando Calrissian playing a game of Sabacc. Animated "Star Wars" projects are able to go weirder and wilder, bringing bizarre non-humans to life in a convincing way that's hard to translate into the real world. It's why I'm relieved that "Rebels" co-creator and current Lucasfilm Chief Creative Officer Dave Filoni has so far allowed the Bendu to remain purely in the animated realm.
The Bendu, for those who are not familiar, looks a little like a cross between a buffalo, a rock monolith, and Gimli from "The Lord of the Rings." This enigmatic, giant entity -- who's...

Ahsoka Tano was a comparatively late addition to the Star Wars universe, but she quickly became a fan favorite. After her defining stint in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, she has gone on to play a significant role in galactic events, including the prelude to the Galactic Civil War in Star Wars: Rebels. She was even active in the efforts to rebuild the Republic in her own self-titled TV series. In the process, she's grown into one of the saga's most indispensable characters, and her clear moral compass serves as a constant source of hope whenever she appears.
Considering her longevity, Ahsoka's absence during the Galactic Civil War itself is a notable one. Ahsoka is one of the last benevolent Force users to remember the days of the old Republic, even as the new one built in the wake of the Empire begins to make fatal mistakes of its own.

The Rebellion took 20 years to defeat the Empire due to a lack of cohesion and unity. The Empire created sleeper agents called shadow operatives by brainwashing and experimenting on clone troopers. These shadow operatives could weaken the Rebellion by preventing unity among separate cells.
A new disturbing Star Wars theory explains why it took the Rebel Alliance two decades to defeat the Empire. Disney’s Star Wars has taken the time to explain how the Rebellion came to be – shows like Star Wars Rebels, Andor, and movies like Rogue One: A Star Wars Story depict the difficulties of building a strong, well-equipped network of operatives, and the sacrifices that need to be made to amass enough resources. Star Wars Rebels and Andor, especially, have shown how scattered and disconnected the fledgling Rebellion was, with different cells taking on different missions with no cohesive plan of attack.

The Bad Batch season 3 reunites Rex, Wolffe, and Gregor in a dynamic clone "pre-reunion" before Star Rebels. Wolffe is still loyal to the Empire in The Bad Batch season 3, struggling to see the truth (though he does let the rogue clones and Omega go). Rex's efforts to help his brothers and fight the Empire will likely end poorly, leading to the presumed loss of the clones he's been trying to save until only Gregor and Wolffe are by his side as seen in the future with Rebels.

Last year, the Disney+ series "Ahsoka" took us to an entirely new galaxy in the "Star Wars" universe. It was there that we found Ezra Bridger, the missing Jedi hero, and Grand Admiral Thrawn, the plotting villain that Ezra disappeared with at the end of "Star Wars Rebels" (but had a long history in "Star Wars" before that). Along with seeing Thrawn's smug blue face in live-action, we also met a new villain named Captain Enoch, a unique golden-faced stormtrooper who leads a new contingent of terrifying stormtroopers known as Night Troopers. Basically zombified versions of the classic white-clad combatants, these troopers have dirty, cracked armor and accents of red, gray, and gold sporadically wrapped, splashed, and cracked on their signature gear.

The Bad Batch Season 3 brings Clone Force 99 in contact with Echo and Rex's group working to save the clones. While allies, these two groups aren't working together on the same mission, even though it seems like they should. With Omega being the primary target for Doctor Hemlock and the Empire, they may have to join forces after all.
The following contains spoilers for Star Wars: The Bad Batch Season 3, Episode 6. "Infiltration," and Episode 7 "Extraction," which are now streaming on Disney+.
The third and final season of The Bad Batch picks up right where the finale left off, with Omega in the clutches of the Empire at Mount Tantiss. There, she toils each day with her genetic sister Dr. Emerie Karr and Nala Se, the Kaminoan scientist who created her. Also at the base are dozens of clone troopers who have been decommissioned from serving the Empire. Perhaps, if...

Star Wars actors Ewan McGregor and Mary Elizabeth Winstead have revealed their son's reaction to meeting Grogu on set for the first time.
Speaking with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, McGregor and Winstead discussed how their son Laurie wanted to meet his favorite Star Wars character, Grogu. Although the character wasn't in Ahsoka, the series that the duo were on set for, Lucasfilm brought Grogu to life by having special effects artists control the puppet as if it were a real scene. Despite Grogu being the child's favorite hero, McGregor said that the meeting went badly wrong as the boy wouldn't stop screaming for the entirety of their time together. The parents also noted that their child was scared of how lifelike and real Grogu's puppet was.

This article contains spoilers for "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" season 3, episode 6 and episode 7, "Infiltration" and "Extraction."
We got two brand new episodes of "Star Wars: The Bad Batch" this week, and they offered us some of the most dire situations Clone Force 99 has been in, forcing us to wonder how many "Batchers" are going to make it through this third and final season. They only get through "Infiltration" and "Extraction" by the skin of their teeth, but it's worth remembering that we haven't seen any hint of them in the future of the "Star Wars" galaxy. That's not to say they can't make it through; Ahsoka Tano and most of the crew from "Star Wars Rebels" certainly proved that a wide array of characters can remain off-screen for important events and have a compelling story to tell once they re-enter the universe. There's every chance the Bad Batch could fall into that category,...

This week brought two brand new episodes of "The Bad Batch," a larger story in the context of the season's overarching narrative. Though the Bad Batch features prominently in these two episodes, dozens of other Clones take center stage as we learn that Captain Rex has been building an entire cadre of Clones to fight the Empire. Rex has even managed to catch one of the mysterious Clone sleeper agents created by the Empire alive. Unable to get any information out of him, however, Rex and his crew have no idea there's a homing beacon inside the Clone, leading the Empire right to them.

The Grand Inquisitor was Vader's right-hand man, with others like the Fifth Brother and Seventh Sister looking to take his place. Reva, or the Third Sister, was merciless in her plan to take revenge on Darth Vader, before turning back to the light side. Other Inquisitors like Marrok, the Ninth Sister, and the Second Sister to name a few have been part of wider Star Wars canon.
Star Wars canon has introduced several Imperial Inquisitors over the years, and here is every major one explained. Making their live-action debut in the Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series, Inquisitors were first introduced in Star Wars Rebels. Ahsoka Tano's journey in Star Wars has been emotional and difficult, especially due to her relationship with Anakin Skywalker. The supercut by figurebrian beautifully captures key moments in Ahsoka's life and her struggles with the Jedi path. Both Ahsoka actresses, Rosario Dawson and Ashley Eckstein, appreciate the video, highlighting its impact on Ahsoka's story.
An incredible Ahsoka Tano supercut shows Ahsoka's difficult Star Wars journey, earning recognition from the animated Ahsoka voice actress Ashley Eckstein and the live-action Ahsoka actress Rosario Dawson. Ahsoka was introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars movie to mixed reception, but she gained fast favor through her animated appearances in The Clone Wars show and in Star Wars Rebels. She has since appeared in live-action in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, and Ahsoka. A Baby Yoda was first introduced in a Star Wars comic 22 years ago, in a story named "Children of the Force." The nursery in "Children of the Force" could connect to Grogu's backstory from The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. Despite not being canon, the legacy of "Children of the Force" is honored in Star Wars content, like The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels.
Grogu has become one of the biggest faces in all of Star Wars, but a baby Yoda was actually first introduced 22 years ago in a lesser known Star Wars comic. What are we doing, Ahsoka? Over the last couple of years, the Star Wars universe and its reputation have taken some interesting turns. While Andor and the first two seasons of The Mandalorian have been acclaimed by both critics and fans alike as some of the best entries in the entire franchise, other shows like The Book of Boba Fett, Obi-Wan Kenobi, the third season of The Mandalorian, and Ahsoka have been met with very mixed reactions. Some think that they are carving out new paths for Star Wars, while others are tired of their deep-cut callbacks and references to odd corners of the canon that require newcomers to do a bit of homework if they want the whole scoop. Speaking on the side of folks who haven't watched all of Star Wars: The Clone Wars or Star Wars: Rebels and aren't worshiping the ground that Dave Filoni walks on,...

The live-action reveal of Padawan Ahsoka in the Ahsoka series highlights the atrocities and reality of a teenager being thrown into war. Star Wars: The Clone Wars series provides deep character development but the live-action Ahsoka shows the true impact of the conflict on her and Anakin.

Ezra Bridger's defeat of Thrawn impacted the Empire's downfall Thrawn's exile played a role in the resurrection of the Empire, Palpatine, and the rise of the First Order Ahsoka was able to become who she was always meant to be because of the Star Wars Rebels finale
Six years ago, the Star Wars Rebels finale, “Family Reunion – and Farewell,” had massive implications for the future of the franchise. Star Wars Rebels focused on the Ghost crew, a small, tight-knit group of Rebels making waves against the Empire from a planet in the Outer Rim known as Lothal. With two Jedi, a Mandalorian, an ace Twi’lek pilot, a skilled warrior, and a gleefully violent droid, the Ghost crew managed to deal the Empire some much-needed damage – in the end, they were arguably instrumental in its downfall.

Star Wars TV shows span hundreds of years across multiple eras, making it difficult to keep track of the timeline. The Disney+ platform revolutionized how Star Wars content is produced for the small screen, with the majority being canon. The shift from animated to live-action shows with series like The Mandalorian opened up a new "pocket universe" within the Star Wars franchise.
Keeping track of Star Wars’ TV shows' timeline can be difficult, especially because the Star Wars shows span hundreds of years and involve multiple eras. The Empire stockpiled Jedi corpses post-Order 66, using them in odd cloning experiments to achieve immortality. Palpatine kept dead Jedi bodies for their midi-chlorians, attempting to create a perfect clone of himself. Anthony Daniels reveals he wanted to honor Alec Guinness as C-3Po in Ahsoka, repeating an iconic line from A New Hope. Daniels reportedly entered the New Republic Senate meeting by stating the line "You don't need to see my identification" after Obi-Wan said the same in the original Star Wars. A home release of Ahsoka could offer bonus features, including a chance for Daniels to see the scene in which he honored his old costar onscreen.
C-3Po star Anthony Daniels has revealed a cut Obi-Wan Kenobi Easter egg that was set to be part of Ahsoka. Daniels' inclusion in Ahsoka was undoubtedly one of the series' biggest surprises. Quick Links Ahsoka Tano's Origins Lie in The Clone Wars Ahsoka's Disney+ Series Takes Place in The New Republic Era Why Ahsoka's Timeline Is So Important
Few characters in the Star Wars saga have appeared in as many key eras as Ahsoka Tano. Beginning as a young Padawan in the early days of The Clone Wars, she grows into adulthood as the Republic slips into the Empire, and witnesses the rise of the Rebellion in the ensuing decades. That extends into the years after the fall of the Empire, as a victorious but weakened Republic struggles to clean up the mess. She becomes an important link between the past and the present: old enough to remember the Republic at its height, and surviving one of the galaxy's most tumultuous periods to help lead the next generation into the future.

Anakin Skywalker's path to the dark side is marked by his embrace of Sith ideology, leading to dictatorship and hypocrisy. Anakin's claim to bring freedom to the Empire is a lie, as he leads an army of enslaved clones with no free will. The Sith seek personal freedom through power and control, viewing others as obstacles to be overcome, revealing the flawed nature of their philosophy.
Anakin Skywalker's famous Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith speech proves the Sith are hypocrites. Anakin Skywalker was never in love with the idea of democracy; even in Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones, he told Padmé Amidala - an elected senator - that a dictatorship would be more effective than the Republic. Anakin surrendered to those beliefs in Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith, leading Order 66 and helping Palpatine establish the Empire.

In George Lucas' 1977 sci-fi flick "Star Wars," there is a scene wherein a cadre of Nazi-like bad guys, in the employ of the evil Empire, gather around a boardroom table and mention that the mysterious off-screen Emperor has dissolved the senate and taken absolute control. The military generals are outraged, wondering how the Empire might survive without a bureaucracy in place. In Irvin Kirshner's 1980 sequel "The Empire Strikes Back," it's established that Darth Vader (David Prowse), a mysterious masked warlock, was actually the Emperor's right-hand man, indicating that the Emperor retains control of the Empire through the sheer force of his villainy.
In "The Empire Strikes Back," the Emperor appeared in holographic form to have a powwow with Darth Vader and plan his next move. In the original cut of the movie, the Emperor was played on screen by actress Marjorie Eaton, outfitted with eerie, alien eyeballs. Eaton was a long-working character performer in Hollywood,...

Star Wars: The Bad Batch gives a unique perspective on the Star Wars universe. Taking place just after the rise of the Empire, it provides insight into the Empire's early cruelty before it was as bold as it later became. With this era as a setting, many properties are easily connected to it, including Star Wars Rebels and Andor, which occurs shortly afterward. And with characters introduced in Star Wars: The Clone Wars appearing constantly, there are ample crossovers between that series. But with cameos for many figures in the Star Wars universe, including Bail Organa (Phil Lamarr), Emperor Palpatine (Ian McDiarmid), and Saw Gerrera (Andrew Kishino), the series connects to many non-animated installments of the franchise. But no connection is as significant as the explanation of Project Necromancer, which ties The Bad Batch to two recent Star Wars stories, The Mandalorian and, more importantly, Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.

Hayden Christensen believes he had a good working relationship with George Lucas while making the Star Wars prequel trilogy together.
"George is a visionary and always knew exactly what he wanted, but when I had an idea he would always hear me out and consider it," Christensen told Empire in an interview celebrating the prequel era's 25th anniversary. Even if Lucas didn't use Christensen's suggestions, the actor respected his willingness to let Christensen experiment a bit, stating, "I remember on several occasions explaining what I wanted to try and George would say, "Well I know when I get to the editing room and I've got your version and my version, I'm always going to use my version, but sure, let's give it a try." And he was right, he always did use his version!"

Hayden Christensen defends his performance as Anakin, citing suspension of disbelief in Star Wars. Characters in Star Wars don't need to conform to real-life expectations. Hayden encourages viewing Anakin with complexity in mind, not reality.
Star Wars fan-favorite Hayden Christensen defended his performance as Anakin Skywalker in the Star Wars prequel trilogy in a recent interview, highlighting that the nature of the galaxy far, far away should inform how audiences perceive the characters.
In an interview with Empire Magazine, Hayden Christensen defended his performance as Anakin Skywalker, explaining:
"That sort of criticism, I think, comes from a certain failure of their own suspension of disbelief. The opening scroll starts with, 'A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away', that’s setting the stage that anything is possible. These people don’t need to sound and behave the way that we might expect."
Does Hayden Christensen Have A Point?...

Warning! This post contains Spoilers for Star Wars: The Bad Batch season 3
The Inquisitors were formed by Palpatine post-Order 66 to hunt surviving Jedi and potentially aid in his immortality plans. Project Harvester involved the Inquisitors abducting Force-sensitive children for Palpatine's dark schemes, possibly linking to Project Necromancer which has been revealed in The Bad Batch season 3. Inquisitors could have captured Jedi as potential M-count donors for Project Necromancer, such as Grogu or more Jedi younglings.
A new Star Wars theory teases the true purpose of Palpatine's Imperial Inquisitors. Having been created in the wake of the Jedi Purge known as Order 66, the Inquisitorius fell under the command of Darth Vader himself. However, it's also possible that they might have played a key role in the Emperor's secret plans to make himself and his Empire immortal in the Star Wars timeline.
It's been confirmed that the Inquisitorius was formed out of...

It’s hard to believe it’s been 47 years since we first witnessed the adventures of Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, but across the nine-movie Skywalker saga, two standalone movies, a multitude of TV series, and one questionable Holiday Special, we’ve learned it’s a big ol’ galaxy out there. With enough characters to fill a Death Star, it’s inevitable that not every player in this grand space opera would get the same attention as Luke, Han, and Leia.
In fact, the franchise has allowed a few characters to slip to the sidelines. From major players who were discarded into the trash compactor to those who didn’t resonate with fans and were quietly pushed to the side, here are 12 Star Wars characters who deserved better.

While live-action Star Wars shows like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka have been driving a lot of conversation surrounding the franchise lately, any die-hard fan will tell you that some of the best material can be found in the various animated series. Star Wars has been investing in animation for decades now, with the first big breakout animated series being Star Wars: The Clone Wars, which premiered in 2008. That series, run by the legendary Dave Filoni, did a lot to restructure, recontextualize, and even redeem a lot of the characters and stories from the Star Wars prequels. This trend continued into Star Wars: Rebels, another Filoni show that ran from 2014 to 2018. Now, the latest animated series to carve out some space in the galaxy far, far away is The Bad Batch, a spin-off from The Clone Wars, which is set in the years immediately following Episode III – The Revenge of the Sith.
