Longlegs star Maika Monroe is set to star in Brides, an upcoming vampire horror from Watcher director Chloe Okuno.
As we prepare to flip the calendar over to another year, Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs stands out as one of the biggest successes of 2024, with the horror film not only earning a substantial take at the global box office, but also picking up plenty of critical buzz along the way. Naturally, that makes the film’s star, Maika Monroe, an in-demand actor, and while Monroe already has several interesting projects in various states of production, she has just added another horror film: Brides.
Brides is backed by Neon, the same distributor behind Longlegs. The project will see Monroe reunite with Chloe Okuno, the director of 2022’s Watcher, in which Monroe played a married woman who starts to think her Bucharest neighbour is a serial killer.

Neon is ready to work with Longlegs star Maika Monroe again. The distributor behind some of 2024's most acclaimed horror movies, like the aforementioned serial killer thriller, Immaculate, and Cuckoo, has acquired the North American rights to the upcoming horror film Brides, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Monroe will star in the movie, directed by Chloe Okuno, with whom Monroe previously worked for the film Watcher. In addition to Longlegs and Brides, Neon is co-producing and distributing They Follow, the sequel to the David Robert Mitchell-directed film It Follows that Monroe also starred in.
Pre-production for Brides is already underway, with filming starting in March 2025. Monroe will be plenty busy between this film and They Follow, which is also set to shoot next year.
In honor of the acquisition, Neon shared a photo of the script's title page via the X platform (formerly Twitter) earlier today. Fittingly, the word Brides...

Up next from director David Robert Mitchell (It Follows) is a mysterious genre movie for J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot that’s titled Flowervale Street, and the IMAX release date had originally been set for May 16, 2025. This week, however, the film has been bumped nearly a year.
Flowervale Street will now arrive in theaters – and IMAX – on March 13, 2026.
That original May 2025 release date has been taken over by Final Destination: Bloodlines.
The deeply mysterious Flowervale Street has been described as an IMAX “thrill ride,” and recent rumors have suggested it might involve dinosaurs… and it’s possibly set in the 1980s.
Stay tuned for more on the Warner Bros. project as we learn it.
Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella, and Christian Convery will star.
Mitchell directs from his own original script and is producing alongside J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella for Bad Robot, Jackson Pictures’ Matt Jackson, and Tommy Harper.

The final scene of It Follows may draw David Robert Mitchells horror to an end, but it leaves the story wide open, and that's why it's one of the scariest ending scenes of all time. The movie recreates the suspenseful tension of 90s horror movies, without relying on gratuitous violence. Instead, It Follows creates an increased anxiety with its psychological story. A disturbing figure hunts the victims of its sexually transmitted curse, and the uncertainty lies in when and how the next threat will emerge. The ambiguous ending makes it unclear whether the monster has been truly defeated.
The eerie and ominous tension of It Follows is impressive, considering how few deaths occur across its 1 hour, 40-minute length. After its release in 2014, It Follows was praised as one of the best horror movies of the past decade because of its well-paced story and strong performances. Further updates regarding the It Follows sequel,...

Neon has closed a $200 million plus credit facility led by Comerica Bank. The funding follows the studio’s previous revolving credit facility with Comerica Bank in October 2022.
The new credit will, according to Monday’s official release, “Be allocated to bolster its core operations, including film acquisition, development, production and distribution, while also expanding into new markets. The investment will further support strategic initiatives and strengthen its international footprint, driving additional growth.”
The deal was negotiated and managed by the studio’s chief financial officer Ryan Friscia at the end of a year that has included “Anora,” directed by Sean Baker and starring Mikey Madison, which won the Palme d’Or at Cannes in May; and Osgood Perkins’ “Longlegs,” which became the highest-grossing independent feature of the year with more than $75 million domestically. Their 2024 slate also included Sydney Sweeney in “Immaculate” and Hunter Schafer in “Cuckoo.”

This year alone, Neon released one of the biggest box office hits in its history with “Longlegs” and had a fifth-straight winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes with “Anora.” With more exciting projects in the works — like “They Follow,” the sequel to one of their earliest hits “It Follows” — even bigger and better things may be on the horizon. All of that costs money.
On Monday, Neon announced it has closed a $200 million-plus credit facility as led by Comerica Bank (it previously had another from Comerica in 2022). Tom Quinn’s distributor will use that investment to bolster its film acquisition (Palme d’Or winners don’t come cheap!) and development, production, and distribution. That is likely to include new markets.
Another upcoming film to look out for from Neon includes “I Love Boosters” from Boots Riley and starring Keke Palmer, Naomi Ackie, Lakeith Stanfield, Demi Moore, Eiza González,...

Here’s It Follows Ending Explanation ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
David Robert Mitchell’s It Follows is one of those horror gems that will creep under your skin, so stay there. The story follows a monstrous curse passed along through intimate encounters. It Follows is somewhat similar to The Thing but with an eerie. What makes It Follows incredibly haunting is its open-ended finale. Like Carpenter’s classic, the ending doesn’t tell the viewers if the nightmare is over. Is the creature gone or lurking somewhere, waiting for the next movie? Of course, the suspense is killing the audience as it has left you guessing long after the credits roll.
What Happens In It Follows’ Ending?
The ending of It Follows takes Jay’s fight against the relentless entity to its tiniest point; however, her desperate plan doesn’t go smoothly. As Jay resists passing on the curse for most of the film,...

Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon are taking the title of their next film to heart. They’re set to direct the horror-comedy project “Family Movie” and star alongside their children, Travis and Sosie Bacon.
The foursome will produce for Mixed Breed Films alongside Norman Golightly at Dark Castle Entertainment. Neon International will represent the foreign rights and introduce it at AFM this week while CAA Media Finance will represent the U.S. rights.
The film, based on a screenplay by Dan Beers (“Premature”), follows an eclectic but tight-knit family of filmmakers who suddenly find themselves in a real-life horror movie when a body turns up on the set of their latest low-budget slasher. As the production spirals comically out of control, they realize the only solution to keep filming is to cover up the murder, by any means necessary.

The movie has surpassed $100 million at the global box office, with a cumulative gross of $72 million in North America. Calling Longlegs star Maika Monroe a “scream queen” is a bit of an understatement at this point. Perhaps the term “scream empress” is more appropriate for an actor who already solidified her genre cred ten years ago with the one-two punch of cult classics, The Guest and It Follows. In the decade since, she’s added a few more genre gems to the list including Greta (2018), Villains (2019) and Watcher (2022). And, as of this Friday, Monroe returns to the big screen in Osgood “Oz” Perkins’ Longlegs, which already boasts critical acclaim and hype on the level of David Robert Mitchell’s It Follows after its 2014 Cannes premiere and 2015 release.
Monroe’s recent run of good fortune is all the more significant when it’s contextualized with the fact that she nearly quit the industry prior to shooting Dan Berk and Robert Olsen’s Villains in 2018.

Returning star Maika Monroe has praised David Robert Mitchell’s script for It Follows sequel They Follow, and says it’ll start filming early next year.
As announced last year, writer-director David Robert Mitchell and star Maika Monroe are reuniting for They Follow – a sequel to the dreamily effective 2014 horror, It Follows.
Monroe will therefore reprise the role of Jay Height, the Detroit teenager menaced by a supernatural presence that passes from host to host like a venereal disease. To date, all we’ve heard about the sequel is a tagline: “It’s everywhere,” which suggests that the entity from the original might be about to spread further afield.
In an interview with IndieWire, published ahead of her latest film, Longlegs, Monroe has talked excitedly about They Follow. The script is “so fucking good,” she says.

The sequel is being called They Follow – and earlier this month, Monroe promised the folks at Collider that this film will be “bigger, darker, and more f*cked up” than its predecessor. Sequels may be all the rage in Hollywood, but a good one? a necessary one? a truly anticipated one? That’s still rare. So how refreshing that one of American indie cinema’s most beloved (and original!) horror outings is preparing to scare up fans (new and old) with a follow-up feature 10 long years since its first release.
Such is the case with David Robert Mitchell’s cult hit “It Follows,” which is readying for a sequel next year. In October of last year, Neon announced plans for a sequel to the film — which follows a group of Detroit pals, including Maika Monroe in her star-making turn as Jay Height, as they attempt to fight back a nameless, faceless entity that is passed to victims through sexual intercourse — with both Mitchell and star Monroe slated to return.

Neon has bought North American rights to “The Unknown” (“L’Inconnue”), the hotly anticipated next movie from “Anatomy of a Fall”’s Oscar-winning co-writer Arthur Harari.
As revealed by Variety earlier this week, the movie will star Léa Seydoux (“Dune 2”) and is being represented in international markets. Harari is rolling off of “Anatomy of a Fall” which he co-wrote with director Justine Triet, abd won an Oscar, two Golden Globes, a BAFTA and the Palme d’Or at last year’s Cannes Film Festival.
The deal was negotiated by Neon’s president of acquisitions and production Jeff Deutchman with producer Nicolas Anthomé on behalf of the filmmakers, and marks Neon’s second collaboration with Harari following last year’s “Anatomy of a Fall” which Neon acquired out of Cannes in 2023 before it won the Palme d’Or for that year. This deal further cements Neon’s commitment to bringing top-of-the-line international cinema to U.

Neon has picked up North American rights to The Unknown, the next feature from Anatomy of a Fall writer Arthur Harari.
Léa Seydoux is set to star in the film, which Neon has said it will release in U.S. and Canadian theaters in 2026. Harari also serves as director on the pic, which will be produced by bathysphere, with Pathé co-producing and selling the film internationally in Cannes.
The Unknown is the third feature both written and directed by Harari. His previous feature as writer-director was 2021’s critically acclaimed Onoda: 10,000 Nights in the Jungle which opened Un Certain Regard at Cannes that year and went on to win the Best Original Screenplay César. He wrote the screenplay for Sibyl (2019), directed by Justine Triet, which was in the Official Competition at Cannes that year.

Neon is plunging into the great unknown with Léa Seydoux and filmmaker Arthur Harari. The indie outfit has landed North American rights to The Unknown, and appropriate for its title, its logline is currently unknown.
But Harari’s pedigree may offer some clues. Harari earned acclaim as the screenwriter of Anatomy of a Fall, which Neon landed out of Cannes before it went on to win the Palme d’Or and later the original screenplay Oscar. Harari previously worked with Anatomy Director Justine Triet on the Cannes title Sibyl (2019). As a writer-director, he is also known for Onoda: 10,000 Nights in the Jungle, which opened Un Certain Regard at Cannes in 2021 and went on to win the original screenplay César.
Seydoux is at Cannes with The Second Act and is coming off a role in Dune: Part 2, while Neon is at the fest with Red Rocket director Sean Baker’s latest feature,...

Last summer, Paul Schrader was about to start shooting “Oh, Canada,” his adaptation of Russell Banks’ novel about a troubled artist taking stock of his life, when the major actors union went on strike. For a second, it looked like all that hard work, passion and planning might be for nothing — with performers on the picket lines and major studios holding out on their contract demands, it was hard to see how cameras would ever roll on the low-budget indie.
“Everything shut down,” said Brian Beckmann, the CFO and COO of Arclight Films, which is selling international rights to the film. “We were in this position where we had spent all this money and secured all this talent and we weren’t sure we could move forward until the strikes were over.”
Because it was made outside the studio system, “Oh, Canada” was able to get a union waiver and...
