A solid first episode.

Luke Fitzwilliam encounters an elderly spinster named Lavinia Pinkerton, who enquires about Scotland Yard's opening hours, she explains that her village of Wychwood is suffering a spate of murders, only the villagers believe they're accidents.

I have been looking forward to this for ages, I have truly missed The Agatha Christie drama at Christmas, great to have it back.

If I'm honest, I would say it's good, not in the same league as And then there were none, from a few years ago, but still pretty good.

What struck me, was how closely they stuck to the original text, or course they've changed the ethnicity of the lead character, and introduced a new backstory for him, I liked it.

David Jonsson, for me he was the standout, excellent from start to finish, love the way he brought the character to life.

If I had one criticism, I wish they'd have introduced the characters, as they rapidly get bumped off one by one, it was kind of hard to feel anything, as we didn't know them, Mrs Horton, Tommy, Amy etc all just names.

7/10.

Luke Fitzwilliam (David Jonsson) has arrived from Nigeria for a Whitehall job. On the train he meets an older woman from the village of Wychwood.

Miss Lavinia Pinkerton (Penelope Wilton) offers Luke some homemade fudge and tells him that she on her way to Scotland Yard to report a sudden spate of murders in her village.

There might have been three murders and no one but her has noticed. Miss Lavinia believes that there are more to come.

As the train arrives at the station. Luke goes to place a bet as it's Derby day. Only someone knocks down Miss Lavinia.

Luke decides to go to Wychwood, to find out more regarding the recent deaths.

It was an interesting beginning. It all went tepid by the time Luke arrived at the village. By then it was Agatha Christie on autopilot with dull stock characters.
