Sex. Paranoia. Betrayal. These are the are among the first words that come to mind when we talk about the cult horror hit, It Follows. A movie that serves as a refreshing splash of originality and imagination that has gone on to become a mainstay in the Blu-ray players of horror lovers everywhere. While it’s a movie that certainly receives its share of praise for being fresh with its concept and quite creative in its depiction of the movie’s antagonistic entity- it also doesn’t seem to get the analysis it deserves beyond those initial praises. While the freshness and high-quality storytelling are certainly not up for debate in my book- this movie is awesome- I must say that beyond all the sex, paranoia, and betrayal, there’s also a surprising layer of tenderness, friendship, and empowerment that carry it through the trending page and into the pop culture zeitgeist forever.

Lee Cronin's The Mummy: With a release date of April 17, 2026, we now have an official title for the latest horror film from Evil Dead Rise's Lee Cronin, who is is writing and directing the film, produced by Atomic Monster, Blumhouse and Doppelgängers, for New Line.

"This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before. I'm digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening," said writer/director Lee Cronin.

As previously announced, Atomic Monster and Blumhouse are co-financing the film. James Wan, Jason Blum and John Keville are producers on the film. Michael Clear, Judson Scott and Macdara Kelleher are executive producers. Alayna Glasthal is the executive overseeing the project for Atomic Monster.

Longlegs star Maika Monroe is set to star in Brides, an upcoming vampire horror from Watcher director Chloe Okuno.

As we prepare to flip the calendar over to another year, Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs stands out as one of the biggest successes of 2024, with the horror film not only earning a substantial take at the global box office, but also picking up plenty of critical buzz along the way. Naturally, that makes the film’s star, Maika Monroe, an in-demand actor, and while Monroe already has several interesting projects in various states of production, she has just added another horror film: Brides.

Brides is backed by Neon, the same distributor behind Longlegs. The project will see Monroe reunite with Chloe Okuno, the director of 2022’s Watcher, in which Monroe played a married woman who starts to think her Bucharest neighbour is a serial killer.

Neon is ready to work with Longlegs star Maika Monroe again. The distributor behind some of 2024's most acclaimed horror movies, like the aforementioned serial killer thriller, Immaculate, and Cuckoo, has acquired the North American rights to the upcoming horror film Brides, per The Hollywood Reporter.

Monroe will star in the movie, directed by Chloe Okuno, with whom Monroe previously worked for the film Watcher. In addition to Longlegs and Brides, Neon is co-producing and distributing They Follow, the sequel to the David Robert Mitchell-directed film It Follows that Monroe also starred in.

Pre-production for Brides is already underway, with filming starting in March 2025. Monroe will be plenty busy between this film and They Follow, which is also set to shoot next year.

The project marks the third collaboration between Neon and Monroe after Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs and the upcoming sequel They Follow, the follow-up to David Robert Mitchell’s It Follows. Pre-production for Brides is now underway, and Neon plans to release the movie in theaters.

Longlegs made $75 million at the box office, making it the highest-grossing indie film of the year and a high point for Neon, Tom Quinn’s Oscar-winning specialty production and distribution outfit also home to Parasite.

As one can probably tell from her last name, she's the daughter of playwright and screenwriter David Mamet, who's behind such works as "Glengarry Glen Ross" and the 1997 political satire "Wag the Dog." Mamet's mother, Lindsay Crouse, is an actor, while her grandfather on that side of the family is Russel Crouse, another playwright.

Nocturnal Pictures has greenlit horror feature film “As Night Falls,” with production slated to begin this month in Kent, England. The film is “A Quiet Place” meets “It Follows,” according to the producers.

The film is written and directed by Leroy Kincaide, whose credits include “The Last Rite,” and stars Jack Parr, and Sophia Eleni.

The synopsis is as follows: “In the dead of day or night, a dark entity attracted to sound lurks in the shadows, as it hunts the last remaining survivors of a small town trapped in an industrial estate.”

“This film will unearth primal fears and confront the dark spaces we instinctively avoid,” Kincaide said. “It’s a story that thrives on atmosphere and the unknown, showcasing the very best of U.K. talent and supernatural storytelling.”

Supporting cast featured are Aaron-Jon North, Fran McAteer, Dale Hayes, David Sayers, Oliver Smiles and Millie-Sue Hayward.

The producers are Kincaide and Chloe Chudasama.

Exclusive: Rosario Dawson is headlining the supernatural horror thriller Unmerciful Good Fortune from Tirsa Hacksaw, a veteran A.C.E. film and TV editor who is making her feature directorial debut.

Project, which Dawson is producing, is adapted from award-winning playwright Edwin Sanchez’s show of the same name.

Dawson plays Maritza Cruz, a high-end celebrity attorney, pulled into a headline-making case involving Fatima, a cunning young waitress who is accused of serial poisoning and murdering 28 people. Fatima’s defense takes a darkly mysterious turn when she claims to have the psychic ability to see how someone will die when she touches them and reveals she is killing people to prevent a “fate worse than death.”

It Follows director David Robert Mitchell’s highly anticipated Flowervale Street is reportedly delayed a year by Warner Bros to 2026.

David Robert Green’s mysterious Flowervale Street has been highly anticipated for some time and with good reason. It comes from the filmmaker behind such lauded movies as It Follows and Under The Silver Lake; it has a top-notch cast including Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor and the talented young Maisy Stella, recently seen putting in great work in My Old Ass. Oh, and the film is arriving shrouded in all sorts of mystery too, which always adds to the sense of intrigue.

Prepare to be intrigued for longer however, as World Of Reel is reporting that Warner Bros has pushed the film into March of 2026, a delay of 10 months.

Up next from director David Robert Mitchell (It Follows) is a mysterious genre movie for J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot that’s titled Flowervale Street, and the IMAX release date had originally been set for May 16, 2025. This week, however, the film has been bumped nearly a year.

Flowervale Street will now arrive in theaters – and IMAX – on March 13, 2026.

That original May 2025 release date has been taken over by Final Destination: Bloodlines.

The deeply mysterious Flowervale Street has been described as an IMAX “thrill ride,” and recent rumors have suggested it might involve dinosaurs… and it’s possibly set in the 1980s.

Warner Bros. shuffled its film release schedule, planting “Final Destination: Bloodlines” on the calendar in summer and delaying the J.J. Abrams-backed mystery thriller “Flowervale Street” to 2026.

“Final Destination 6” will be released on May 16, 2025. It’s taking over the slot previously occupied by “Flowervale Street,” which was set for mid May but has been pushed nearly a year to March 13, 2026. “Final Destination: Bloodlines” is the only major studio release on that date, but it will debut two weeks after Disney’s Marvel adventure “Thunderbolts” (May 2) and the week prior to Paramount’s “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” and Disney’s live-action “Lilo & Stitch” (May 23).

The studio also acquired “Animal Friends,” a live-action/ CGI hybrid road trip adventure starring Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza and TikToker Addison Rae, and pushed its release date back to Oct. 10. Sony was previously set to release the film in August before Warner Bros.

The final scene of It Follows may draw David Robert Mitchells horror to an end, but it leaves the story wide open, and that's why it's one of the scariest ending scenes of all time. The movie recreates the suspenseful tension of 90s horror movies, without relying on gratuitous violence. Instead, It Follows creates an increased anxiety with its psychological story. The funding, which follows the leading indie distributor and producer’s previous facility with Comerica from October of 2022, will be used to bolster core operations, including film acquisition, development, production, and distribution, while also expanding into new markets. The investment will further support strategic initiatives and strengthen its international footprint, driving additional growth.

What Merida is not known for is her bulging eyes and striking T-pose gait. Maika Monroe has been cast in the new horror movie Brides. Monroe is a horror "scream queen" who had her breakout role a decade ago in the 2014 horror film It Follows. More recently, Monroe is known for playing Agent Lee Harker in this year's Nicolas Cage horror film Longlegs. Her other recent roles include parts in God Is a Bullet, Significant Other, and Watcher. She is also slated to star in the upcoming It Follows sequel entitled They Follow.

As per Collider, Monroe has now been cast in an upcoming horror film called Brides. The movie will be directed and written by Chloe Okuno. Brides will be a 1960s-set period piece about a woman named Sally Bishop who travels with her husband to an Italian villa. When the villa's mysterious owner takes note of the couple, he becomes determined to turn Sally into one of his vampire brides.

At one time, Watcher director Chloe Okuno was attached to direct the fourth entry in Netflix’s R.L. Stine-inspired Fear Street franchise – but while Fear Street: Prom Queen has made its way through production without her involvement (the movie ended up being directed by Matthew Palmer), Okuno has been busy getting another genre project set up. One that will reunite her with Watcher star Maika Monroe. This one is called Brides, and Deadline reports that it’s currently in pre-production, aiming to start filming in the Spring of 2025.

When it came out, It Follows was one of the biggest indie hits of 2015. It was lean, mean, and didn’t explain itself with any mythology for its demonic antagonist. It gets passed on by sleeping with someone, it follows you looking like people you know, and either you die, or pass it on yourself. It was devilishly simple premise for a teen horror film that played into teen fears of both sexual disease and sexual power, and of course the unknown that awaits in adulthood. Kendrick stars in this Netflix true-crime thriller as Cheryl Bradshaw, a woman who had a terrifying encounter with serial killer Rodney Alcala, whom she met when they both appeared on the game show “The Dating Game” in 1978. Daniel Zovatto, best known for appearing in horror movies like “It Follows” and “Don’t Breathe,” plays Alcala, with Tony Hale playing the host, who’s based on Jim Lange.

Kendrick is one of the few people to be nominated for the Triple Crown of Acting without winning in any category. She might get there someday, especially if she keeps making movies like this, a tense and thoughtful thriller with a 91% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

When Smile, an original low-budget horror movie, became a surprise smash hit in 2022, it was a success story that was easier to admire than it was a film to rally behind. Originally intended for a streaming premiere, the $17m movie was elevated to a theatrical release after enthused test screenings, going on to make $217m worldwide, a huge win for Paramount and the genre at large. It was a slick, stylishly made attempt to update a familiar supernatural curse formula with the modern addition of a trauma narrative, a parasitic demon acting as a metaphor for the horror of inherited mental illness.

Portraying the life of a diva pop star — or, at least, doing it convincingly — isn’t the easiest thing for a movie to bring off. There are too many real-life counterparts. The director Brady Corbet (“The Brutalist”), teaming up with Natalie Portman, got about halfway there in “Vox Lux.” Lady Gaga, drawing on elements of her own legend but shrewd enough to play the heroine of “A Star Is Born” as not a version of herself, created a character for the ages. More recently, M. Night Shyamalan seemed to make “Trap” mostly to let his budding musician daughter, Saleka Shyamalan, embody a pop singer — which she did with aplomb in concert, less convincingly in the backstage scenes. So when you hear that “Smile 2,” Parker Finn’s sequel to his effective if overloaded creep-out horror film of two years ago, is centered around a pop star, you may not exactly...

Parker Finn’s 2022 feature debut, Smile, was transparently molded from chain-possession horror like The Ring and It Follows, in which a death curse is passed from one victim to the next while the agonized protagonist tries to wriggle out of it. Despite its familiarity, the movie worked, in part because the writer-director brought plenty of style and sustained anxiety to the derivative premise but also because the means of transferal was so disturbingly ordinary — a big toothy grin. The film cost a modest $17 million to make and grossed north of $200 million worldwide, which made a sequel inevitable.
