Sex. Paranoia. Betrayal. These are the are among the first words that come to mind when we talk about the cult horror hit, It Follows. A movie that serves as a refreshing splash of originality and imagination that has gone on to become a mainstay in the Blu-ray players of horror lovers everywhere. While it’s a movie that certainly receives its share of praise for being fresh with its concept and quite creative in its depiction of the movie’s antagonistic entity- it also doesn’t seem to get the analysis it deserves beyond those initial praises. While the freshness and high-quality storytelling are certainly not up for debate in my book- this movie is awesome- I must say that beyond all the sex, paranoia, and betrayal, there’s also a surprising layer of tenderness, friendship, and empowerment that carry it through the trending page and into the pop culture zeitgeist forever.

Longlegs star Maika Monroe is set to star in Brides, an upcoming vampire horror from Watcher director Chloe Okuno.
As we prepare to flip the calendar over to another year, Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs stands out as one of the biggest successes of 2024, with the horror film not only earning a substantial take at the global box office, but also picking up plenty of critical buzz along the way. Naturally, that makes the film’s star, Maika Monroe, an in-demand actor, and while Monroe already has several interesting projects in various states of production, she has just added another horror film: Brides.
Brides is backed by Neon, the same distributor behind Longlegs. The project will see Monroe reunite with Chloe Okuno, the director of 2022’s Watcher, in which Monroe played a married woman who starts to think her Bucharest neighbour is a serial killer.

Neon is ready to work with Longlegs star Maika Monroe again. The distributor behind some of 2024's most acclaimed horror movies, like the aforementioned serial killer thriller, Immaculate, and Cuckoo, has acquired the North American rights to the upcoming horror film Brides, per The Hollywood Reporter.
Monroe will star in the movie, directed by Chloe Okuno, with whom Monroe previously worked for the film Watcher. In addition to Longlegs and Brides, Neon is co-producing and distributing They Follow, the sequel to the David Robert Mitchell-directed film It Follows that Monroe also starred in.
Pre-production for Brides is already underway, with filming starting in March 2025. Monroe will be plenty busy between this film and They Follow, which is also set to shoot next year.
In honor of the acquisition, Neon shared a photo of the script's title page via the X platform (formerly Twitter) earlier today. Fittingly, the word Brides...

Neon has picked up the North American rights to Chloe Okuno’s horror pic Brides, which will star Maika Monroe and is set to shoot in March 2025.
The project marks the third collaboration between Neon and Monroe after Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs and the upcoming sequel They Follow, the follow-up to David Robert Mitchell’s It Follows. Pre-production for Brides is now underway, and Neon plans to release the movie in theaters.
Longlegs made $75 million at the box office, making it the highest-grossing indie film of the year and a high point for Neon, Tom Quinn’s Oscar-winning specialty production and distribution outfit also home to Parasite.
Longlegs saw Nicholas Cage play an elusive serial killer being tracked by FBI Agent Lee Harker (Monroe) and who was so transformed for the film, he was almost unrecognizable. Brides will be produced by Anthony Bregman and Stefanie Azpiazu through Likely Story.

Zosia Mamet comes from a long lineage of folks making names for themselves in some capacity in the entertainment field. As one can probably tell from her last name, she's the daughter of playwright and screenwriter David Mamet, who's behind such works as "Glengarry Glen Ross" and the 1997 political satire "Wag the Dog." Mamet's mother, Lindsay Crouse, is an actor, while her grandfather on that side of the family is Russel Crouse, another playwright.
It almost seems like Mamet was destined for big things with that lineage, and she's certainly made a name for herself over the past decade of consistent work. From dramas to comedies (but mostly comedies), she's done it all, especially after breaking out with her role of Shoshanna Shapiro on "Girls."
These are the best Mamet movies and TV shows yet, but don't worry. Despite providing one of the most ridiculous moments in "Madame Web," her...

It Follows director David Robert Mitchell’s highly anticipated Flowervale Street is reportedly delayed a year by Warner Bros to 2026.
David Robert Green’s mysterious Flowervale Street has been highly anticipated for some time and with good reason. It comes from the filmmaker behind such lauded movies as It Follows and Under The Silver Lake; it has a top-notch cast including Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor and the talented young Maisy Stella, recently seen putting in great work in My Old Ass. Oh, and the film is arriving shrouded in all sorts of mystery too, which always adds to the sense of intrigue.
Prepare to be intrigued for longer however, as World Of Reel is reporting that Warner Bros has pushed the film into March of 2026, a delay of 10 months.

Up next from director David Robert Mitchell (It Follows) is a mysterious genre movie for J.J. Abrams’ Bad Robot that’s titled Flowervale Street, and the IMAX release date had originally been set for May 16, 2025. This week, however, the film has been bumped nearly a year.
Flowervale Street will now arrive in theaters – and IMAX – on March 13, 2026.
That original May 2025 release date has been taken over by Final Destination: Bloodlines.
The deeply mysterious Flowervale Street has been described as an IMAX “thrill ride,” and recent rumors have suggested it might involve dinosaurs… and it’s possibly set in the 1980s.
Stay tuned for more on the Warner Bros. project as we learn it.
Anne Hathaway, Ewan McGregor, Maisy Stella, and Christian Convery will star.
Mitchell directs from his own original script and is producing alongside J.J. Abrams and Hannah Minghella for Bad Robot, Jackson Pictures’ Matt Jackson, and Tommy Harper.

Warner Bros. shuffled its film release schedule, planting “Final Destination: Bloodlines” on the calendar in summer and delaying the J.J. Abrams-backed mystery thriller “Flowervale Street” to 2026.
“Final Destination 6” will be released on May 16, 2025. It’s taking over the slot previously occupied by “Flowervale Street,” which was set for mid May but has been pushed nearly a year to March 13, 2026. “Final Destination: Bloodlines” is the only major studio release on that date, but it will debut two weeks after Disney’s Marvel adventure “Thunderbolts” (May 2) and the week prior to Paramount’s “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning” and Disney’s live-action “Lilo & Stitch” (May 23).
The studio also acquired “Animal Friends,” a live-action/ CGI hybrid road trip adventure starring Ryan Reynolds, Jason Momoa, Aubrey Plaza and TikToker Addison Rae, and pushed its release date back to Oct. 10. Sony was previously set to release the film in August before Warner Bros.

The final scene of It Follows may draw David Robert Mitchells horror to an end, but it leaves the story wide open, and that's why it's one of the scariest ending scenes of all time. The movie recreates the suspenseful tension of 90s horror movies, without relying on gratuitous violence. Instead, It Follows creates an increased anxiety with its psychological story. A disturbing figure hunts the victims of its sexually transmitted curse, and the uncertainty lies in when and how the next threat will emerge. The ambiguous ending makes it unclear whether the monster has been truly defeated.
The eerie and ominous tension of It Follows is impressive, considering how few deaths occur across its 1 hour, 40-minute length. After its release in 2014, It Follows was praised as one of the best horror movies of the past decade because of its well-paced story and strong performances. Further updates regarding the It Follows sequel,...

Neon said today it’s closed a $200 million-plus credit facility led by Comerica Bank.
The funding, which follows the leading indie distributor and producer’s previous facility with Comerica from October of 2022, will be used to bolster core operations, including film acquisition, development, production, and distribution, while also expanding into new markets. The investment will further support strategic initiatives and strengthen its international footprint, driving additional growth.
Earlier this year it debuted a new international sales strand, with Cannes its first official stop, launching international for Keeper, the next genre film by Longlegs helmer Osgood Perkins.

This year alone, Neon released one of the biggest box office hits in its history with “Longlegs” and had a fifth-straight winner of the Palme d’Or at Cannes with “Anora.” With more exciting projects in the works — like “They Follow,” the sequel to one of their earliest hits “It Follows” — even bigger and better things may be on the horizon. All of that costs money.
On Monday, Neon announced it has closed a $200 million-plus credit facility as led by Comerica Bank (it previously had another from Comerica in 2022). Tom Quinn’s distributor will use that investment to bolster its film acquisition (Palme d’Or winners don’t come cheap!) and development, production, and distribution. That is likely to include new markets.

The newest Disney Dreamlight Valley expansion, Storybook Vale, has brought some new faces to the valley, but it's also brought a few new glitches. Among the newest arrivals to the game is Princess Merida, a beloved character from the Disney movie Brave, known for her bright orange curls and Scottish brogue.
What Merida is not known for is her bulging eyes and striking T-pose gait. Unfortunately, this is exactly what she does in a clip shared by Reddit user Cavalish, as she glides away with her arms outstretched in what can only be called a nightmare-fuel loop. "I dont know what people are talking about," writes Cavalish, "Merida looks great."

Here’s It Follows Ending Explanation ( Photo Credit – YouTube )
David Robert Mitchell’s It Follows is one of those horror gems that will creep under your skin, so stay there. The story follows a monstrous curse passed along through intimate encounters. It Follows is somewhat similar to The Thing but with an eerie. What makes It Follows incredibly haunting is its open-ended finale. Like Carpenter’s classic, the ending doesn’t tell the viewers if the nightmare is over. Is the creature gone or lurking somewhere, waiting for the next movie? Of course, the suspense is killing the audience as it has left you guessing long after the credits roll.
What Happens In It Follows’ Ending?
The ending of It Follows takes Jay’s fight against the relentless entity to its tiniest point; however, her desperate plan doesn’t go smoothly. As Jay resists passing on the curse for most of the film,...

Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon are taking the title of their next film to heart. They’re set to direct the horror-comedy project “Family Movie” and star alongside their children, Travis and Sosie Bacon.
The foursome will produce for Mixed Breed Films alongside Norman Golightly at Dark Castle Entertainment. Neon International will represent the foreign rights and introduce it at AFM this week while CAA Media Finance will represent the U.S. rights.
The film, based on a screenplay by Dan Beers (“Premature”), follows an eclectic but tight-knit family of filmmakers who suddenly find themselves in a real-life horror movie when a body turns up on the set of their latest low-budget slasher. As the production spirals comically out of control, they realize the only solution to keep filming is to cover up the murder, by any means necessary.

Maika Monroe has a new horror project coming up with the vampire movie Brides, and according to what is known about its story, it will cover an often ignored storyline from Dracula and can even fix it. Maika Monroe has earned a spot among the modern Scream Queens thanks to various horror roles in recent years. Monroe rose to fame when she starred as Jay Height in David Robert Mitchells It Follows. Monroe returned to the genre in 2019 with Villains, a horror comedy in which she starred alongside Bill Skarsgrd.
After starring in the 2022 sci-fi horror movie Significant Other, Monroe had another massive horror hit when she played Lee Harker in Osgood Perkins Longlegs. Chris Rock is set to direct and star in “Misty Green,” described as a contemporary tale of Hollywood excess and inequity.
Based on an original script by Rock, “Misty Green” follows Misty, an undeniably talented actress whose vices have derailed every attempt to revitalize her career. Her best opportunity in ages arrives in the form of Jordan (Rock), a film director with the perfect role for her — were it not for their contentious past. Additional casting is underway.
Rock and seasoned exec and former Fox head Peter Rice will produce alongside James Lopez for MacRo Film Studios and Tommy Oliver for Confluential Films. Executive producers are Charles D. King for MacRo Film Studios and Codie Elaine Oliver for Confluential Films. Horror movies have been with us for a very, very long time. This genre, despite inducing shock and fear among the viewers, is extremely popular, and starting with Alfred Hitchcock, some directors have made careers by making horrors. George Romero, John Carpenter, and Wes Craven are considered classics, while today, we have a series of new, young directors who are great in the genre.
And since we’re writing this in a period of year when horrors are even more popular than usual, we have found a very interesting report that has seemingly determined the scariest horror movie of all time based on objective scientific criteria.
If you want to know how the guys at Science of Scare determined this and which horror movie actually won the prestigious title, we advise you to stick with us until the end as we are going to reveal absolutely everything you need to know.

It’s Halloween, and YouTube is celebrating what might be the next big era of spooky content with a spotlight on analog horror.
Over the last couple of years, we’ve seen a handful of horror content creators get picked up for major Hollywood studio deals, including analog horror creator Kane Pixels, whose YouTube short films about the backrooms–a liminal space of seemingly endless, empty-yet-claustrophobic rooms with a vaguely corporate vibe–helped solidify the setting as a well-known internet phenomenon.
Kane Pixels is one of thousands of creators producing analog horror–lo-fi short films that usually involve found footage, unsettling audio, glitch imagery, and set dressings like manufactured product commercials and news reports, all used to tell an interconnected narrative that slowly pieces together.

At one time, Watcher director Chloe Okuno was attached to direct the fourth entry in Netflix’s R.L. Stine-inspired Fear Street franchise – but while Fear Street: Prom Queen has made its way through production without her involvement (the movie ended up being directed by Matthew Palmer), Okuno has been busy getting another genre project set up. One that will reunite her with Watcher star Maika Monroe. This one is called Brides, and Deadline reports that it’s currently in pre-production, aiming to start filming in the Spring of 2025.
Scripted by Okuno, Brides draws inspiration from Bram Stoker’s novel Dracula. Set in 1960s Italy, it will show us what happens when Sally Bishop (Monroe) and her husband travel to a remote villa in the wake of Sally’s nervous breakdown. The villa’s owner, a mysterious count, takes a peculiar interest in Sally. But he gets far more than...

When it came out, It Follows was one of the biggest indie hits of 2015. It was lean, mean, and didn’t explain itself with any mythology for its demonic antagonist. It gets passed on by sleeping with someone, it follows you looking like people you know, and either you die, or pass it on yourself. It was devilishly simple premise for a teen horror film that played into teen fears of both sexual disease and sexual power, and of course the unknown that awaits in adulthood. With director David Robert Mitchell’s new horror film Flowervale Street coming out next year, and it being prime spooky season, we thought it was a great time to dig up this interview with him from when this new-horror-classic was first released in 2015.

Get ready for a thrilling reunion in the world of horror! Scream queen Maika Monroe and talented filmmaker Chloe Okuno are set to team up again for a new horror movie called Brides. With Monroe's captivating performances and Okuno's visionary direction, we're in for a treat!
The duo previously worked together on the psychological thriller Watcher, which Okuno wrote and directed and Monroe starred in. They obviously work well together, so we expect their new project to be another masterpiece.
Brides is Okuno's next movie. She hasn't worked on any films since Watcher. Her most recent work was directing episodes of the TV shows Let the Right One In and Teacup. For Brides, she will be directing from a script she wrote, and Monroe will star. Additionally, Anthony Bregman and Stefanie Azpiazu will produce through their Likely Story film production company.

What if “It Follows” was a romantic comedy?
That’s something like the premise for the upcoming series “Laid,” which premieres on Peacock this holiday season. The streaming service released a trailer for the sitcom on Wednesday.
“Laid” stars Academy Award nominee Stephanie Hsu (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) as Ruby, who realizes that her former lovers are all mysteriously dying in unusual ways. With the help of her friend Aj (Zosia Mamet), she goes back through her “sex timeline” of exes and past hookups to find out why it’s happening and stop it once and for all. Anna Kendrick’s Woman of the Hour takes a fascinating and disturbing piece of true crime history—the story of Rodney Alcala, aka “The Dating Game Killer”—and turns it into a tense, nostalgia-soaked crime thriller. Balancing her trademark charm with unsettling tension, Kendrick directs a stylish film that thrives on its great performances, retro vibes, and a narrative that’ll make you grateful for modern-day DNA evidence. Though it occasionally feels a bit too polished for the gritty 70s setting, Woman of the Hour is a strong debut for Kendrick behind the camera.

Not to give you a fright head of Halloween, but an alarming number of fan-favorite movies will be leaving Netflix by the end of October 2024. We all know that movies tend to come and go on Netflix, so even though a long list of movies are departing Netflix this month, the cycle will continue and some might even pop back up in future months.
Last month saw the departures of the Divergent and Fifty Shades of Grey movies, along with beloved movies like A Walk to Remember and The Breakfast Club. This month, as many hit movies are leaving Netflix, too. The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Crazy Rich Asians, It Follows, I Wanna Dance with Somebody, and more have already left with lots more still to leave.

Our top pick this week, “Woman of the Hour,” is the directorial debut of Academy Award nominee Anna Kendrick. Kendrick stars in this Netflix true-crime thriller as Cheryl Bradshaw, a woman who had a terrifying encounter with serial killer Rodney Alcala, whom she met when they both appeared on the game show “The Dating Game” in 1978. Daniel Zovatto, best known for appearing in horror movies like “It Follows” and “Don’t Breathe,” plays Alcala, with Tony Hale playing the host, who’s based on Jim Lange.
Kendrick is one of the few people to be nominated for the Triple Crown of Acting without winning in any category. She might get there someday, especially if she keeps making movies like this, a tense and thoughtful thriller with a 91% “Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Here are some other movies to stream this weekend:

You never know who you might meet on a dating show — but you might just know some of the faces you’ll see on said show in “Woman of the Hour.”
Directed by Anna Kendrick — marking her directorial debut — the film, now streaming on Netflix, tells the bizarrely true story of how a serial killer went on “The Dating Game,” and won. His appearance on the show was square in the middle of his killing spree, and he wasn’t even caught because of the show.
Not only does Kendrick direct, but she also stars in the film, alongside some other familiar faces.
Here’s who you need to know in “Woman of the Hour.”
Netflix Sheryl Bradshaw (Anna Kendrick)
Cheryl Bradshaw is indeed the woman of the hour referenced in the title, a struggling actress who goes on “The Dating Game” hoping for exposure. Instead, she meets and picks a serial killer.

Glossier follow-up to 2022’s hugely successful curse horror is well-made and well-acted but the franchise is struggling to carve out its own identity
When Smile, an original low-budget horror movie, became a surprise smash hit in 2022, it was a success story that was easier to admire than it was a film to rally behind. Originally intended for a streaming premiere, the $17m movie was elevated to a theatrical release after enthused test screenings, going on to make $217m worldwide, a huge win for Paramount and the genre at large. It was a slick, stylishly made attempt to update a familiar supernatural curse formula with the modern addition of a trauma narrative, a parasitic demon acting as a metaphor for the horror of inherited mental illness.
The film’s creator, Parker Finn, showed flair as a director but flaws as a writer, unable to push his tonally awkward film far enough...

Portraying the life of a diva pop star — or, at least, doing it convincingly — isn’t the easiest thing for a movie to bring off. There are too many real-life counterparts. The director Brady Corbet (“The Brutalist”), teaming up with Natalie Portman, got about halfway there in “Vox Lux.” Lady Gaga, drawing on elements of her own legend but shrewd enough to play the heroine of “A Star Is Born” as not a version of herself, created a character for the ages. More recently, M. Night Shyamalan seemed to make “Trap” mostly to let his budding musician daughter, Saleka Shyamalan, embody a pop singer — which she did with aplomb in concert, less convincingly in the backstage scenes. So when you hear that “Smile 2,” Parker Finn’s sequel to his effective if overloaded creep-out horror film of two years ago, is centered around a pop star, you may not exactly...

Parker Finn’s 2022 feature debut, Smile, was transparently molded from chain-possession horror like The Ring and It Follows, in which a death curse is passed from one victim to the next while the agonized protagonist tries to wriggle out of it. Despite its familiarity, the movie worked, in part because the writer-director brought plenty of style and sustained anxiety to the derivative premise but also because the means of transferal was so disturbingly ordinary — a big toothy grin. The film cost a modest $17 million to make and grossed north of $200 million worldwide, which made a sequel inevitable.
Cut to Smile 2, which trades Sosie Bacon’s clinical psychiatrist for Naomi Scott’s Skye Riley, a global pop superstar riddled with trauma for the sinister entity to feast on. That means a switch from a main character whose professional training and troubled personal history gave her a few insights into her addled...
