HEART EYES has everything that I find wrong with slasher films. First and foremost, the killer possesses almost superhuman strength when he is donning the mask, but ultimately he/she turns out to be a regular chap. So, is there a correlation between the strength of the person and the mask?
Secondly, nobody carries a gun, and the few people who carry them don't know how to use them. How convenient! Most of these films are set in the USA, and you're telling me that a maniac is killing people with all sorts of melee weapon, and the people don't carry the gun for their safety. Let me reiterate that the film is set in the USA.
Take for instance the sequence in the drive-in theatre. A masked killer is openly hacking and slashing, and there is not a single gun in sight, that too in Seattle--a place where it's permitted to carry a gun for your own safety.
I am not a sucker for rules, but when the film is as boring as this, you tend to notice such things. Had this film been entertaining, I might have forgiven, but it's not. The meet-cute romance between the lead was cringy as hell. The final twist of there being more than one killer was imminently guessable, and the surprise villain reveal was as surprising as finding out that 2+2 is 4. The killer's motive is equally trashy and pointless.
All in all, HEART EYES is an extremely generic slasher that does nothing new to differentiate itself from another films from the same genre; it just borrows endlessly without bringing anything new to the table.
