Post Malone, Vault Comics and Michael Bay and Brad Fuller’s Platinum Dunes have partnered to create an all-new IP universe based on an original story by the recording artist.
Blending elements of road thrillers like “Mad Max: Fury Road” and demonic horror like “Evil Dead,” Malone’s story is set in medieval Europe, where the only thing standing in the way of the horde of demons infesting the continent is a mysterious armored 18-wheeler seemingly sent back from the heavens.
“I’m so pumped to share this badass story with the world, and I couldn’t ask for better partners than Michael Bay and Vault to help bring this story to life,” says Malone.
Working closely with Malone, Vault will launch the story first as a graphic novel, set for publication in 2025. Meanwhile, Post Malone, Platinum Dunes and Vault will concurrently develop a feature film adaptation.

The docuseries Quiet on Set: The Dark Side of Kids TV posted Max’s best streaming numbers to date for its premiere week.
The show, which streamed on Max concurrent with its on-air premiere on ID, had 1.25 billion minutes of viewing for the week of March 18-24. That’s the largest weekly total for any series on Max in the nearly four years of Nielsen’s streaming rankings, edging out the 1.19 billion for The Last of Us in early 2023.
Netflix’s 3 Body Problem grabbed the overall No. 1 spot for the week (it premiered March 21), racking up 1.37 billion minutes over its first four days. The sci-fi series narrowly beat Prime Video’s remake of Road House, which had 1.32 billion minutes of viewing in the United States. Amazon had earlier claimed that the movie was Prime Video’s biggest film premiere worldwide so far.

Road House and Quiet on Set brought some variety to the Nielsen streaming charts in March.
During the week of March 18 to 24, there were four different streamers represented among the Top 5 streaming titles — Netflix, Prime Video, Max and Disney+. According to Nielsen, this is a rarity that has only occurred once before, when the same four platforms shared the stage in October 2022.
In the top spot was Netflix’s 3 Body Problem, which debuted all eight episodes on March 21. In its first four days on the streamer, it amassed 1.37B minutes viewed.
Second place went to Prime Video’s Road House, the reimagining of the 1980s Patrick Swayze film, which was right behind 3 Body Problem with an impressive 1.32B minutes viewed. This is particularly noteworthy because it is far shorter than 3 Body and therefore at a significant disadvantage when it comes to these streaming rankings.

Filmmaker Parker Finn has experienced a career start that most can only dream of. After his 11-minute horror short "Laura Hasn't Slept" screened at SXSW 2020, Finn signed a deal with Paramount Pictures to adapt it into a feature-length film, "Smile," which stars Sosie Bacon as a psychotherapist who becomes targeted by a sadistic demon. After witnessing a patient's suicide, she's plagued by hallucinations of people she knows staring at her with very creepy smiles, and finds herself unable to trust anything she sees or hears.
"Smile" grossed more than $217 million at the box office, a massive success given its $17 million budget, and a sequel was soon greenlit, with Finn returning as writer and director. Kyle Gallner, whose character survived the last movie and was implied to be the demon's next target, has returned for "Smile 2," and is joined by new cast members Naomi Scott, Lukas Gage, Rosemarie DeWitt, Dylan Gelula,...

In a letter to shareholders, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy offered a refreshing dose of clarity regarding the status of Prime Video.
Just how big is Prime Video’s customer base? For years, the only way to answer this question was via speculation, as Amazon has steadfastly refused to make data like subscriber totals or the profitability of its streaming segment public for years. But in a recent letter to Amazon shareholders, company CEO Andy Jassy revealed that Prime Video had 200 million customers, an impressive number but one that comes with an important caveat.

Conor McGregor vs. Dwayne Johnson: Who Cashed the Bigger Check?
Did Conor McGregor really set a world record with his Road House payday? That’s what the onetime UFC superstar has been bragging about in recent weeks, claiming he’s now “the highest paid first-time actor of all time.” If true — and McGregor, 35, hasn’t disclosed how much he got for his debut role in Amazon’s reboot of the 1989 kickboxing flick — he would beat Dwayne Johnson’s record of $5.5 million for 2002’s Scorpion King. While some have scoffed at his claim, sources indicate he was indeed paid in that ballpark, and given the Irishman’s stature in the martial arts world and the offers he has turned down (he accepted a role opposite Vin Diesel in 2017’s xXx: Return of Xander Cage, only to back out before filming began) it wouldn’t be surprising if some sort of record was broken.

To understand why is the industry so conflicted over how to release movies, check out the contradictory paths of two Amazon films, “The Beekeeper” and “Road House.”
The first, which stars Jason Statham as a righteous avenger, is a $40 million production acquired by Amazon MGM for the US. It grossed $66 million in its domestic theatrical release and went on to become a hit as a $19.99 PVOD. Currently, it’s $5.99 to rent and is #1 at iTunes (which ranks by transactions) as well as Fandango (which tracks by revenue).
That’s nearly unheard of at Fandango, which sometimes see its entire top 10 comprised of $19.99 titles. It is also unusual for a mid-level success like “The Beekeeper” to be so dominant on VOD.
Meantime, “Road House” skipped theaters and leads Reelgood’s list of most-streamed movies for the week ending last Wednesday.
At Netflix, another random theatrical release dominates its most-watched movie chart.

There are some movies that we should never remake. However, make no mistake, Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead is not one of them. We should celebrate when bad movies are remade. Yet, while most people look back at the Christina Applegate 1991 modern (imagine me using air quotes) classic, you shouldn’t. It’s unfunny and hardly worth your time.
It’s a perfect example of why the audience dictates classics. For some reason, like the ridiculous remake of Road House, people fondly look back at films they grew up with. The remake of Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead misses the mark like the original by not embracing the dark comedy possibilities and trading away any originality for a family comedy premise that doesn’t work.
And that’s too bad because Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead has a likable cast and has positive messaging.

Conor McGregor definitely stands as one of the most prominent figures in the history of Mma. His star power is unparalleled, consistently shattering pay-per-view records whenever he graces the headline of an event. He is a genuine tough guy, which is why it comes as no surprise he was featured in a fan-made trailer for Popeye The Sailor Man, replacing the legendary Robin Williams.

There are a lot cult classics from the 1980s, but Road House stands somewhere near the top. Sure, many of its fans wouldn’t label it as such, since they lovingly, legitimately and unironically adore it. But there’s no use in arguing it belongs in one camp over another or that it is unapologetically everything it sets out to be. But it – and its cult following – couldn’t have happened without a few broken ribs, a don’t-take-no producer and some pervy late-night phone calls to a star’s spouse. Yes, it involves Bill Murray… So, pour some suds and rip some throats because we’re gonna find out: Wtf Happened to this Movie?!

What happens in Vegas… fuels a year’s worth of hope for theatrical exhibitors.
From April 8-11, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, Universal, Paramount, and Disney — not to mention the faith-friendly Angel Studios and anime distributor Crunchyroll — have four days at CinemaCon to wow theater owners (and the press) with their plans for the summer blockbuster season and beyond. However, there are only so many times that NATO, the MPA, and the studios can say “movie theaters are back!” without sounding like Chicken Little.
The reality is 2024 will be lucky to match the levels of last year, and 2025 has its own challenges if the industry faces another round of strikes. Even so, Adam Aron’s hundreds of soldier-owners from his AMC army will be looking to him for reassurance at the world’s biggest exhibition pep rally.

Arnold Schwarzenegger and Danny DeVito appeared together in 1988’s buddy comedy movie Twins, produced and directed by Ivan Reitman. The story follows two fraternal twin brothers, streetwise Vincent and intelligent but naïve Julius, who were separated at birth.
The movie, upon its release, was a commercial success, and the audience lauded the performances of the actors. Despite being a commercial success, the movie received mixed reviews from critics. Arnold Schwarzenegger, in an interview, recalls the prank he played on Danny DeVito while they were filming Twins.

Netflix is at or near the top of both Nielsen and Luminate’s streaming rankings every week, but achieved that with some titles that differ from its usual fare during the March 29-April 3 viewing window.
As expected, “3 Body Problem” remained the most-watched streaming original series of the week per Luminate with 964.1 million minutes watched (an estimated 3.6 million views) — unsurprising, as the title is the follow-up from “Game of Thrones” helmers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss, who created the show alongside Alexander Woo.
But right behind it was “Testament: The Story of Moses,” a biblical series that Netflix calls a “docudrama” that landed on the streamer in time for Easter weekend. Though the project differs from the content typically prioritized by Netflix (and most streamers) it reached a strong 707.8 million minutes watched. Divided by the series’ just over 4-hour runtime, that translates to an estimated 2.8 million views.

Since we’re now into the slow slide from Easter/Spring Break into the Summer cinema season, how about an Mma-style action thriller full of fights and daring escapes? Oh, you say we just had that in the remake of Road House just a couple of weeks ago. Well that flick, despite the director’s protests to the press, bypassed the multiplex and went right to a streaming service. And this new release almost went the same route until an Oscar-winning filmmaker saw it, bought it, and helped prep it for a wide theatrical debut. Oh, and speaking of debuts, this is the first feature directed by the star of a Best Picture Oscar winner over a dozen years ago. Yes, he was the lead in that, and he’s in the lead here as the mysterious avenger who is known as the Monkey Man. And no, he’s not another comics-based hero.

Ilana Glazer is taking her “Broad City” persona to the next level: parenthood. Glazer co-wrote coming-of-age buddy comedy “Babes” with Josh Rabinowitz to chart the hilarity of becoming a parent while still being very much an adolescent at heart.
“Babes” follows inseparable childhood best friends Eden (Glazer) and Dawn (Michelle Buteau), two New York City natives who find themselves in different phases of adulthood. When carefree and single Eden decides to have a baby on her own after a one-night stand, their friendship faces its greatest challenge yet, especially as the more responsible Dawn is already a mother of two.
The dramedy marks Pamela Adlon’s feature directorial debut, and alongside Glazer and Buteau, co-stars John Carroll Lynch, Oliver Platt, Sandra Bernhard, Stephan James, and Hasan Minhaj. Co-writers Glazer and Rabinowitz produced the feature along with Susie Fox, Breean Solberg, and Ashley Fox.

Road House, starring Jake Gyllenhaal, has muscled its way to the top of viewership on Amazon Prime. The reboot was helmed by Doug Liman, and the numbers recorded are a positive sign that even though the film was overlooked for a theatrical release, the power of storytelling is still compelling, even if it is on a small screen.
The choice to go straight to streaming was deliberate on the part of the makers and the studio. Either way, the move paid off, as the film has set a new record.

Insights From Stunt Coordinator Garrett Warren On ‘Road House’ (Photo Credit – Instagram)
‘Road House’ made its global debut on March 8, 2024, premiering at South by Southwest as the opening night feature. Amazon MGM Studios dropped it on Prime Video on March 21, 2024. The film received a mixed bag of reviews from critics. While some hailed Gyllenhaal’s performance, others slammed the script. Of particular note, cinematographer Henry Braham crafted a one-of-a-kind handheld gimbal akin to a robotic arm, capable of replicating the stabilizing prowess of a Steadicam. This innovation allowed for breathtaking shots, even aboard a speedboat.
As Dalton finds the spark to confront McGregor and his nepotistic underworld boss (played skillfully by Billy Magnussen), the climax unfolds mainly on boats. These vessels crash, explode, narrowly miss swimmers, and smash into the Road House. The film faced balancing practical effects at high speeds, slower sequences, wirework, and visual effects. “Road House” strived...

Road House star Jake Gyllenhaal and his production banner Nine Stories have signed a deal with the backers of two of his recent films, Amazon MGM.
It looks as though Amazon MGM is on something of a charm offensive at the moment. Warner Bros has also signed a slew of first-look deals in a bid to negotiate partnerships with plenty of acclaimed Hollywood creatives as the studio looks to reassert its ‘filmmaker-friendly’ reputation after several years of setting fire to that eminent renown, seemingly as often and as violently as it possibly could.

Jake Gyllenhaal is not bouncing from Amazon MGM Studios after “Road House.” The actor’s Nine Stories production company has closed a three-year first-look film deal with Amazon MGM Studios. The arrangement gives Amazon the right of first-refusal on narrative features by Nine Stories; it applies to both theatrical and streaming. It sounds exactly like the deal Amazon just signed Ryan Gosling to all of six days ago.
But this story is about Gyllenhaal. The actor presently stars in the Prime Video-exclusive “Road House” reboot, which Amazon says has drawn more than 50 million viewers worldwide over its first two weekends, Amazon said on Monday. It’s a Prime Video record.

One day after Prime Video announced a record-breaking milestone for Doug Liman’s Road House reboot, saying the film amassed 50 million viewers in two weeks, the film’s star, Jake Gyllenhaal, has inked a first-look deal with Amazon MGM Studios for future film projects. The pact is between Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories production studio and Amazon MGM Studios, with the latter getting first dibs on narrative features. The agreement extends to film projects produced by Nine Stories for theatrical and streaming release. Could this contract lead to Gyllenhaal making Road House 2? Will Doug Liman return to direct after inking an iron-clad contract to release the would-be sequel in theaters? Your guess is as good as mine. I can’t imagine Liman and Amazon MGM Studios are the best of friends after the streaming-only release of Road House, but stranger things have happened.

Amazon MGM Studios has closed a three-year first-look film deal with Jake Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories following the rousing success of his movie Road House on Prime Video, which was the most watched original movie for the studio ever with 50 million global viewers in the pic’s first two weeks.

Fresh Off ‘Road House,’ Amazon MGM Studios Signs First-Look Deal With Jake Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories
Fresh off the release of “Road House,” Amazon MGM Studios has closed a three-year, first-look film deal with Jake Gyllenhaal’s Nine Stories. Under the pact, Amazon MGM Studios will have first dibs on narrative features that the actor’s production company makes. The deal includes theatrical, as well as streaming releases.

Prior to that, Gyllenhaal starred in “Guy Ritchie’s The Covenant,” which the studio released theatrically last year.

It is not wrong to say that streaming services dominate the entertainment industry in the current digital era. It is hard not to be impressed by the numbers these platforms report, with millions of subscribers and billions of streams. Realistically speaking, though, those figures might not always be as precise as they seem.
And it seems Conor McGregor has recently found himself in a similar predicament as filmmaker Zack Snyder earlier did. Both celebrities appear to have made the same mistake of celebrating record-breaking viewership figures without fully comprehending the significance of streaming versus theatrical releases.
McGregor recently boasted about the 50 million views his reboot of the classic film Road House received on Prime Video, a popular streaming service. Snyder, on the other hand, was astounded by Netflix’s reach in comparison to traditional film studios during a two-hour interview with Joe Rogan earlier.

Snyder, on the other hand, was astounded by Netflix’s reach in comparison to traditional film studios during a two-hour interview with Joe Rogan earlier.

John Carpenter's 1981 sci-fi film "Escape from New York" is set in the far-flung future of 1997 when crime in across America has suddenly increased 400%. In response, the government has walled off the island of Manhattan, transforming the entire city into a massive prison. Food is airdropped in every so often. All escape bridges are lousy with landmines. There are no guards apart from those walking the parapets. It's a lawless land with no escape. Any criminals and ne'er-do-wells are forced inside and left to their own devices.
The protagonist of "Escape from New York" (I hesitate to call him a hero) is Snake Plissken (Kurt Russell), a freelance badass and thief who was recently apprehended by the government (represented by Lee Van Cleef). Snake is told that Air Force One has exploded over New York, and an escape pod containing the president (Donald Pleasence) has landed inside the New York prison.

What the movie-streaming public wants depends on which top 10 chart you prefer. This week offered little consistency and some outright contradictions.
One thing is clear: Jake Gyllenhaal’s straight-to-streaming “Road House” remake is a massive hit. Amazon Prime reported over 50 million worldwide viewers through its second streaming weekend and gateway app Reelgood reported it as the week’s #1 movie for March 21-27 in the U.S.
“The Accountant,” a 2016 Warner Bros. drama starring Ben Affleck, is currently #1 at Netflix. On Easter weekend “The Passion of the Christ” led VOD at iTunes, while the just-released $19.99 “Imaginary” (Lionsgate) topped Fandango’s revenue-calculated list. (It was #20 at iTunes.) For a second week, Google Play did not update its list.
“Ordinary Angels” (also Lionsgate) is #2 at Fandango, but #14 at iTunes. Since Fandango calculates by revenue, that list favors PVODs — but this week, six of its top 10 rented for $5.99 or less; “The Passion of the Christ,...

Jake Gyllenhaal’s Road House remake has delivered an exceptional performance after its release on Amazon Prime. Despite receiving mixed reviews from critics, the film has been successful on the Ott platform. However, the film has raised another round of headlines after Undisputed fame, Scott Adkins, also joined in to criticize the remake of the Patrick Swayze action classic.

The 1989 summer movie season might've officially kicked off on Memorial Day weekend with the release of Steven Spielberg's "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade," but having been a movie-mad 15-year-old kid at the time, I can assure you that May's first adrenalized action spectacular opened a week earlier when Patrick Swayze introduced us to a man named Dalton in the instant s***-kicker classic "Road House." Critics initially wrote it off as a mindless meathead programmer from mayhem merchant Joel Silver, but the aptly-monikered director Rowdy Herrington and the screenwriting duo of David Lee Henry and Hilary Henkin understood their ludicrous assignment and aced it with knowing aplomb. Their unabashed commitment to inherently risible material turned "Road House" into the "Citizen Kane" of bar bouncer movies.
Of course, "Road House" was, for a long time, the only bar bouncer movie ever made. Surprisingly, given the film's enduring popularity, few...

After a rather dramatic road to the small screen, Road House is the new champion in the ring for Amazon MGM Studios.
Amazon says the remake of the 1989 action classic is its biggest global movie launch ever. And for the first time for a feature film, Amazon provided a viewership number, saying 50 million viewers had watched the film since it debuted March 21.
However, Amazon did not offer clarity on how it reached that number — for instance, if an account watching a minute of the movie would go toward the 50 million tally, or if it calculated a view like Netflix and Disney+, which divide the runtime of a film by the total number of viewers.
