Drivel

Never mind the sci-fi out of this world aspect.... if you found people in everyday life who reacted the way these characters do, you'd wish you'd been abducted... I mean really? Just let down by poor scripting, poor character development and just general poor plot.

So utterly uninspiring, I can see why it wasn't carried by any cinema here in the UK. It's entirely lamentable, that film can now be produced and distributed so cheaply. At least the barrier of cost used to mean the product had to be sufficiently good so as to make sales to cover the costs....

Terrible
jade-722-5200713 May 2016
This was a truly terrible film. I was astounded at how they managed to get some of the cast. It started off OK, and then progressively got worse and worse. The acting in some parts was so bad the audience was laughing in the cinema and I just cringed and cringed. The beginning actually opened really nicely but somehow the plot got totally lost, the characters were tied up in stupid nonsense and the 'scary aliens' were apparently English sounding but actually had American accents. The cast had a variety of terrible accents, and I'm not sure why they didn't just keep to their own. Terrible don't bother. I'm not sure what else I can possibly say.

Probably the worst film I've ever seen
gregshields-109931 May 2016
I have just joined IMDb for the sole purpose of preventing anyone else from seeing this shambolic mess of a film. It's plot is holier than Passion of the Christ, and watching it feels much like Jesus himself must have. It introduces an astounding number of premises, and elaborates none of them, instead concluding with an ill-attempted philosophical justification of its own drunken story board. The lead actress is good enough, as is the lead actor. William Davis (x files) is, however, the only real draw. The accents (ostensibly Texan) are strained and variable, the lead female oscillating between Generic Southern and Generic Germanic. The rest of the cast is universally appalling, and manage to sink deeper an already sinking ship. The 'Indian' shaman and Russian investigator are so bad that at times the film appears almost comic - more of the 'laughing at' kind than the 'laughing with'. Nothing makes sense, there is no cohesive storyline, the editing sees overly long and/or completely unnecessary scenes that do nothing to develop the plot interspersed with action of dubious believability. This film has achieved a rare trajectory of starting off with reasonable promise, and descending exponentially into a complete farce.

At times frightening, at times intriguing, at other times comic, and generally very very bad.

Brave and scary film

Warning: Spoilers
I saw Abduct with my friend at Sci-fi London UK premier and was gripped from start to finish. I always enjoy this kind of film but they are rare. Abduct takes you into the depths of creepiness and unexplained phenomenon. Loved Art Bell too, such a great voice! Some of the cast are not the best of choices but then when you have William Cancer-man X-Files Davis and Sienna Resident Evil Guillory in the same film how can you resist it? Mark Arnold and Mhairi were great as well and the story, although complex at times was enjoyable and I left the theater with a lasting impression. Thanks to Abduct me and my partner are googling the subject covered and boy am I seeing things from a new perspective. I wish more films would dare to go where Abduct dares to go. Well done to the film makers and looking forward to Abduct II. Angelica was slick but don't bring back the Man in Black.

One of the worst movies I've ever seen
nimitz54121 October 2020
Seems like they made the dialog of this movie up as they filmed it. This movie did not have even one redeeming quality. I'm not sure how it was even released. I'd have probably rather see it burned than put out to public viewing. Willian Davis must have owed a favor, been conned or blackmailed to be in this movie. His acting was that of a feeble grade schooler.

Interesting view about HAARP
KieronWhitbeck6 May 2016
I think overall the film talks about interesting stuff, mainly directed to the theorist mates.

All the stuff related to HAARP is interesting, the radio show host has a good solid performance and bringing the American AB is a plus and could probably enjoy more film time with these scenes.

They could have cut out some moments, the blonde Russian is useless for the story and the government guy with the hat and funny voice, his accent is terrible, don't know why they have him.

The redneck has some good moments and the xfiles joke is stupendous, some of his expressions and jokes are priceless. Overall is enjoyable, the effects are cool and had a good laugh.

A Mind Expanding Experience
anthonypaanewton5 May 2016
Well I attended the May The 4th screening expecting to see just another alien encounter film. Don't get me wrong I like alien films. The story started interestingly enough but a third of a way through I realised that I was watching something more than just another alien encounter film. Whoever wrote the story has a very deep story to tell.

Though it takes a while to get into the flow of this film I found myself totally engrossed in a world of the conspiracies, theories and thought provoking questions that most of us are too afraid to ask or would never have even imagined. By the end of the story I was left hanging on the edge of my seat because of the clever and yet frustrating cliff-hanger! But after the end credits roll I saw that Abduct 2 is coming soon so that eased my mind that is now brimming with so many questions and the need to understand more.

There simply isn't any way that all the answers and conclusions can be achieved in just one hour and fifty minutes but I would commend Abduct team and the director for this impressive effort.

though let down at times by some of the lesser cast. William Davis and Mark are wonderful and I got surprise when I saw the cool Resident Evil chick turn up as a villain. The Man in Black was not such a scary man, more of a creepy clown. A cult film in the making? Maybe and this is much more than a film, I feel it was a mind expanding experience just like the line in the film implies "This show is for mind expanders and truth seekers". A great line. The film is full of nice one-liners, and fan boy homages to much loved sci-fi films that all film buffs can appreciate.

I'm telling my friends about it because it's so rare to be affected like this by films these days, just doesn't happen too often anymore. But Abduct is that kind of film that makes you think even if you don't try to.

On a Scifi festival what were you expecting to watch?
solaleila6 May 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Ha ha it's a SF movie about conspiracy crap all about these crappy theories and unsolved crappy mysteries and either you believe it or not, either you like it or not. All the same but I like it for the sake of fun.

I actually thought it was OK and the story kinda makes sense and it has a lot going on but there's some strange voices there.

It's entertaining enough to generally help pass the time on a lazy Sunday evening. What to expect? Lots of waffle but the jokes made me crack up it doesn't take itself too seriously and the final twist actually took me by surprise. I heard outside the screening lots of scenes have been cut but no details, exactly what scenes and featuring whom, anyone?

A very unique alien abduction movie
hopelessjedi3 May 2016
Though it's pitched as an alien abduction story the movie delves into interconnected topics. A science-fiction fans treasure trove of alien, ghosts and government conspiracies and I for one can't get enough. It's a film fans dream of a movie with bags of well-known and lesser known conspiracies to boot. The dialogue is smart, packed full with information and cleverly timed humour to help soften the blow. Abduct covers a lot of topics and is jam packed full of everything including good locations that add to the atmosphere. William B. Davis is great to watch with his impeccable delivery and timely gestures. Mark Arnold and William simply have an on screen chemistry that is worth mentioning and the two of them stole the show with the striking Sienna Guillory making a powerful performance even playing multiple characters. The ending is a twist that I didn't see coming.

I loved the cancer man!
mjosers13 March 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Abduct is a wonderful film that is irresistible from start to finish for aliens conspiracy fans like me. I really enjoyed the x-files cancer man as a some kind of skeptical redneck, really funny his expressions and the part when he asks the Indian white path to check crystal neck for an implant because he used to watch x-files and the implants are always in the back of the neck, I cried laughing because I'm a x-files (from the 90's) fan. Also loved the farm. The girl's mother is also great she really looks nasty and a control freak just with her eyes. Didn't like alistair, seems a bit forced but angelica looks and sounds much better. Great to watch.

Something seems to be interfering with American reality
kastrino11 February 2022
Fun little alien abduction b-movie that will be more appreciated by X-philes, like I'm certain the director is. Full of subtle and not so subtle references and similar plotlines, not to mention the Cigarette Smoking Man, William B. Davis himself in the exact opposite role of a skeptical man that talks about conspiracies and laughs at the thought of hidden government bases in Alaska (Fight the Future anyone?).

Apart from the continuous X-Files referencing, the movie is a bit all over the place in terms of plot, mixing in clumsy ways alien abduction, Indian mythology and plenty of philosophizing over the paranormal. Towards the end things take a more surreal and so-bad-it's-good direction, but the movie did not lose its charm, at least in my case and it remained entertaining till the end. However, I feel that it is doubtful if viewers that are not familiar with the X-Files will appreciate it much.

I loved it!
kirsbrowny5 May 2016
You will either understand Abduct or you wont. I did and my boyfriend didn't. I'm smart, he isn't lol. I loved it, he liked it, I'm a fan of this genre and he's getting into it. Excellent! Wish there were more films like this and less of the superhero crap that Hollywood are churning out.

This film lets you think, a superhero film makes you vegetate. For an homegrown UK indie I am seriously impressed. One hell of a leading cast too. X-Files-Braveheart-Teanwolf and Resident Evil stars. I loved it!

Can't wait for Abduct 2! Don't keep me waiting guys, get a bigger budget and don't bring back that Russian or MIB and the sequel will be 10 out of 10 from me.
