I was hooked for weeks into a complex plot ... but then it died!
stprssll8 August 2015
We watched this show each and every week. The entire house would discuss the intrigue and the complex plot, the baddies, who was a goodie, or not. Right up to the last episode and then ... then ... what happened, it just died, all the complex plotting all the mysterious characters, just dissolved into nothing and the show ended. We sat there on the lounge and looked at each other, we wanted to cry. How could they do this to us, who's responsible! What a crock of SH!T.

Even though we were left in tears of utter disappointment at the end, all the episodes until then were gripping and we loved every minute. I recommend watching all but the last episode, then just be happy with your fantasies about how it could have ended. Anything you dream up on your own will be better than that last awful episode.

Maybe it will become an internet meme - the "Dig" alternate ending competition. I still want to cry.

Not for those who read the last page of a novel.
mdbourke-282-89997331 March 2015
Yes, dig is a slow burner. And despite another reviewers concerns. It is not full of swear words. Most of the world does not define the use of God and Jesus to be swear words. So, to the rational out there, don't be put off by some odd reviews from people who only watched 8 minutes before they decided to review the pilot. Jesus, what's wrong with some people? It's well made, enjoyably scripted and interesting enough to watch. It's a shame due to ongoing middle east unrest they could not shoot in Jerusalem, but New Mexico looks great nonetheless. The cast are all capable and the mystery intriguingly simple yet complex at the same time. So if you don't consider blaspheme to be 'swearing' enjoy the show and give it time, at least more than eight minutes. Also ignore the homophobic Christian reviewers. Enjoy it for what it is

Naysayers gonna naysay!

Intelligent shows that don't cater to a dumbed down viewing audience take time to build momentum! I don't really subscribe to the negative regarding new shows. I think after a season one can tell what the forecast might be for an upcoming story line. I'll give this one a try. I think we will see some really good acting and compelling conflict. I am a sucker for any pre apocalyptic adventures relating to old and new testament prophecies. I really liked the mixture of groups with varied interests in the show. We have the orthodox Judaic groups, a cultic group in the middle of New Mexico, political powers in lofty positions, religious fanatic hit men, FBI, Essenes, and then some. What is not to like? I love the cinematography in Jerusalem too. What a beautiful historic location. This show has much to offer for anyone who sees the glass half full.

ambition not fulfilled
SnoopyStyle28 June 2015
While investigating a young woman's death, FBI Agent Peter Connelly (Jason Isaacs) based in Jerusalem uncovers a secret society. His boss and former lover Lynn Monahan (Anne Heche) is unconvinced. Debbie Morgan (Lauren Ambrose) is a recovering addict staying with a group in an isolated religious compound out in the American desert. She discovers a boy named Josh who is held in isolation. She tries to break him out but it's not what she thinks it is. A red heifer without blemish is born in Norway and a young religious Jew is tasked to accompanying it to the Holy lands. The three separate stories converge around a plan thousands of years in the making.

Tim Kring keeps coming up with convoluted conspiracy shows with religious overtones. I like them but it doesn't mean I'm a sucker for anything. There are some silliness going on in this show. All three stories are interest in their own way but also suffers from deficiencies. The cow is silly but I actually like the religious kid. I really like Lauren Ambrose but her story is unreal. As for the main story, it gets too complicated and too compressed. I started to lose interest in that section after a few episodes and the show ended weakly. This is an ambitious TV show that doesn't deliver all that it promises.

Flawed but still worth watching
Sonofamoviegeek1 June 2015
Overall, I like Dig. After all, who doesn't like conspiracy theories that have a veneer of fact? It is a fact that there is a Temple Society that is actively searching for the ashes of the Red Heifer and training students in ancient Temple ritual to resume sacrifices when the Third Temple is rebuild. Another fact is that there are evangelical Christians who support the Jewish Temple Society and also look for the Temple to be rebuilt. Where Dig deviates from these facts is that these people are quite peaceful and content to wait for the Messiah to come (return) rather than take an active art in destroying the current occupants of the Temple Mount. It's also a fact that archaeological digging around the Temple Mount has religious and political hazards.

And that's the basic problem with Dig's broad popularity. It asks us to extend our intellect beyond the usual car chase/shoot-em-ups/bedroom scenes that are the standard made-for-TV miniseries. You need to have some knowledge of Judaism and evangelical Christianity to navigate the premises in Dig. From many of the comments on IMDb, it's obvious that many would rather watch the standard TV fare than extend their intellect. I don't object to being asked to think a little bit but why not go all the way and make a completely intellectually satisfying show.

Dig has just too many plot holes to give it a ten rating. Let's consider Agent Connelly, Jason Isaacs' character. Does the FBI send agents into foreign countries? I thought that was the CIA's job. Even if the FBI is into operations in Israel, would they use an agent who apparently doesn't know a single word of Hebrew? I realize that English is the most common second language in Israel but you can get on an Israeli's good side with a few well chosen words in Hebrew.

Dig ignores the fact that the Essenes really are extinct. They appear in the history of Josephus and some other contemporary historians but they seem to have disappeared during the First Jewish Revolt of 70 AD. It seems that that Essenes were a dead end of Judaism. Current scholarly opinion is that the Essenes had no connection to the Dead Sea Scrolls or to Qumran for that matter. Whether or not the Essenes existed in Qumran in the First Century or now, I think that the many people involved in excavating the Dead Sea Scrolls might have noticed all those dudes in white robes dancing around fires in the area.

Another hoot that Dig offers up is the scene with Anne Heche walking around the Negev in high heels and a cocktail dress. This is just after a miraculous escape from her kidnappers by strangling Noa Tishby, shooting the driver and surviving a SUV crash without wearing a seat belt. Folks, do not stroll the Negev without full hiking gear and lots of water.

Despite the aforementioned sensitivity of digging around the Temple Mount, apparently one can enter the dig through a door on a busy locked by a key that is not so cunningly hidden behind a rock in the wall. Israeli security can't be that lax.

In a way, Dig makes me disappointed in Gideon Raff, one of the creators. I loved Hatufim (on which Homeland was based) mini-series because it was so plausible. The characters in Hatufim, as in Homeland, have an ambiguity that is lacking in most miniseries. However, Hatufim was entirely plausible with the premise that the Israel security agencies employ double and triple agents. Dig's evil and good characters stay pretty much as they are throughout the series. Also, Dig lacks the implied homoerotica of Hatufim, although Ori Pfeffer's character is openly gay.

There are some high points in Dig that help overcome its defects. Angela Bettis, Regina Taylor and Noa Tishby play three of the most evil women to ever grace the small or large screen. Jerusalem is lovingly photographed, warts and all. Overall, I would still recommend Dig as something better than average.

A Cross Between the Da Vinci Code, State of Play and Raiders of the Lost Ark: Looks To Be a Compelling Series
classicalsteve6 March 2015
While many film and television viewers like escapist comedies and non-strop action thrillers, I have a weakness for suspense with intricate plots. Sure, I don't mind the occasional chase, but I like them paired with puzzle pieces which are gradually woven together. Only by the end do we see not only how the pieces fit together but the entire picture. Hopefully, in the best films in this genre, each piece of the puzzle is offered but the characters along with the audience can't make the connections initially. They need more puzzle pieces for the mosaic to take shape. Part of the fun is for the audience to discover the pieces and ultimately the entire puzzle as the characters do so.

In this first installment of "Dig", USA network's new suspense-espionage thriller series, we have puzzle pieces but we don't have the full picture yet. The main action takes place in Jerusalem with a few inter-spliced scenes in a compound in New Mexico. The pieces so far: an antiquities dealer arrested for murder, a member of the police who has retrieved some kind of ancient artifact, possibly used with the garb of a high priest from ancient times, the murder of a young woman who is an intern in an archaeological dig near the temple mount in Jerusalem.

Peter Connelly (Jason Isaacs) is an FBI agent stationed in Jerusalem. It's not exactly clear why he's there, but he's part of criminal investigations in the city regarded as one of the holiest places on Earth by Jews, Christians, and Muslims. He befriends a young woman at an evening vigil who takes him into an underground archaeological excavation. She tells him she's an intern at this excavation being overseen by an esteemed archaeologist-historian professor. She tells Connelly the site may hold the secrets of the Ark of the Covenant, the large ornate chest which, according to Jewish legend, held the original stone tablets of the 10 commandments which God bequeathed to Moses who in turn bestowed upon the Israelites. The Ark also supposedly contained artifacts associated with the Jewish people, such as Aaron's rod which, like Moses' rod, wielded magical powers. When the Babylonians conquered the Israelites by ransacking Jerusalem and destroying their temple in the 6th century BCE, the Ark disappeared. (Think of the 1980's hit "Raiders of the Lost Ark".) The following day after his trip to the excavation, Connelly enters his investigative offices and learns a woman has been murdered. When he sees the reports and pictures, he realizes it's the woman he met who gave him a tour of the excavation site. This is the first puzzle piece.

Simultaneously, a fellow Israeli investigator has arrested an antiquities dealer. He confiscated some kind of ancient artifact which has the shape of an abacus with strangely ornate stars. Apparently, they were used on the front of the garb of an ancient high priest, probably for some kind of ritual. This is puzzle pieces number two and three.

The last is the most enigmatic of them all. At a compound in New Mexico, a young boy of 11 or 12 is being held there without other children. We don't understand who these adults are, except they are caring for and in some ways imprisoning this boy. We are told that the boy thought he was waiting for his parents, but now his self-appointed guardians have told him his parents are dead and they are in his charge. And we learn that the head of this compound is called "Pastor". Is this some kind of radical religious cult? This is puzzle piece number four.

While I found the first few minutes dragged slightly, once Connelly meets the young woman, the story starts to pick up. Could be a compelling series. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait every week to get the next installment. Almost wish I could simply buy the whole first season on DVD instead of waiting many weeks to see all the installments. I hope the grand denouement lives up to this very good beginning.

Really really really wanted to love this show...
A_Different_Drummer16 May 2015
I am having trouble remembering when I wanted so badly to love a new series.

First the star, Jason Issacs, is one of the most under-utilized action heroes in the biz. I saw him a few years ago in a mini-series about politics in Boston and he was brilliant. He held the series together like glue. He has the kind of face that you instantly trust and he has the looks of a guys who gets things done.

And seeing Kring's name on the creator credit was also a plus. I am one of those fans of Heroes who still doesn't quite get why a show that was mesmerizing in its first year suddenly lost an entire audience? I still watch old episodes of Heroes even today, they are that good. ("Save the cheerleader, save the world" should be right up there with "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.") So, apologies made, this is not a series I can get my teeth into.

In my view it is primarily intended for viewers who love a good crossword puzzle or jigsaw puzzle or any kind of puzzle, because that's all you get from week to week. Puzzle pieces and clues.

In script talk, the long arc essentially dominates the short arc and the short arc exists only as a excuse to extend the long arc.

There are people who love puzzles that have no answers. I am not one of them.

But you might be.

Slow grab ... but grabbed just the same
marie_hood20 April 2015
I love crazy twists and turns. Things that make me go, "Whaaaaa...??" and Dig has a lot of that.

There's no swearing (it's on USA network for crying out loud) and the camera work has never bothered me. Bear in mind, I'm a non-religious, non-Hollywood type...so what do I know?

But -- if you want to get sucked in and taken for a weird ride, hop on.

It did help that I fell in love with Detective Golan Cohen, Peter's partner.

Regina Taylor is deliciously evil and Anne Heche (I know, right!?) is a fun find in this show. I was happy to see Lauren Ambrose in a great role... always love her.

The set in Jerusalem is mesmerizing,, Some doubts on the plot.. but maybe still early to judge (it actually was too early ;) )!!
Aktham_Tashtush6 March 2015
As a drama series USA network usually manages to get things properly , but here i think there are some blunders or let's say misplacement in the historical and maybe the religious facts just to make the show more appealing (it's understandable somehow :P) and as i'v noticed in the series promo there'll be also some political facts and views are questionable.

The first hour of the show was just okay,, not rising to the usual rating of other shows on USA but there was a lot of mysteries to solve so .. maybe it's a bit early to say.

............................................................... ................ Update.............................................................. .............

Well after watching the second and third episodes things actually get interestingly mysterious ,,, more questions ,,, more riddles,, so the plot got more complicated and got more unpredictability which kinda makes it more appealing ... wait till you see the final scene in The Sixth episode they just slap when you least expect it ;) ,,, the frigging unpredictability is growing drastically ;)

.................................................................... .................................................................... ...........................

I think bringing a cast lead by Jason Isaacs and Anne Heche would be the reason why the rates are up.. i'v seen Jason Isaacs in much better roles like "Awake" even though it ended early but it was genius .. well he's doing a fine job here too.

The Set, The cinematography, the production and visual effects were the best ,, i mean , you really feel like traveling to Jerusalem and see all of these couple of thousands year old buildings.

Anyway, i hope the show gets better, i think it's gonna be a mini series so i think i'll keep on watching it :) , still for a pilot 6 seemed fair ;)

Do not get enthusiastic, because it crashes
miaalike24 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Watched due to a good review here + trailer. Good thing I watched alone, because it left an aftertaste of dirt in mouth. It starts well, although slow paced. Jerusalem - nice, contrasting cops - ok, a mystery - acceptable, some fanatics in the plot preparing for a profecy - let's see where they take it. To the dumpster. They took it to the dumpster, as if someone got bored or underpayed around the last episodes and just dropped it all. Started pulling tricks out of the hat, out of nowhere more like it. Gratuitously killed main characters, just because... And then tanked it with a lame motive for all the shananigans. Small minded and not worth it. Does not respect the viewers' intelligence.

Dig has dug a beautiful hole in the middle of my brain, reaching treasure and forming a cave of corundum
rageconnectfour4 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I am very pleased with this new show. The negative reviews that i have read are shallow and judgmental based on personal moral standards which have no room in unbiased journalism. The acting is spot on, the plot is ever developing and unpredictable. Every episode, after the 2nd or 3rd, leaves me at the edge of my seat guessing at what will happen next. This show is not for people who are closed minded and have little imagination. If you would rather watch Fried Green Tomatoes over Indiana Jones then i suggest starting a series like The Slap (which is also a great show once you get into it) or Red Band Society (which is also good but in a sappy emotional lovey duvey sort of way). Both of these shows are great but they deal with realistic every day social issues rather than going deep into the world of the unconventional, supernatural, suspenseful, and at times controversial themes. If you liked the X Files, you will like perhaps even love Dig. If you cant handle seeing a bad bitch shoot a kid in the face to protect a prophecy, but you still want to see something with action and suspense and historical intrigue, then i suggest you start watching Da Vinci's Demons or Scorpion. These are both exciting brilliant shows that keep it fun without crossing the line of brutal realism that can be watched with the whole family. If you can handle some very mildly disturbing scenes (its really not that crazy at all), and you like sci-fi and shows that deal with ancient relics and rituals then this show is for you. Definitely give it a few episodes to develop and grow on you and then you'll be hooked. Like me. :)

Looks good
patlightfoot3 June 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the first episode and am looking forward to more. I am interested in archaeology and have a degree in it. BUT CONTINUITY? The red heifer? When the young man took it out for a walk it was definitely a bull calf. I mean to say folks, how could they miss that little bit of appendage?

My thoughts are that it seems to be anti-Orthodox Jews is it? That won't be popular with some. But it is fiction and I rather liked its setting and also it's actors. I just hope it doesn't end up like Returned, going on and on and getting no where. I lost interest in that series.

The genre is to my liking and actually it is supposed to take place under the Golden Dome Mosque there have been historical queries that possibly parts of the old Temple are still there. I am looking forward to more episodes.

Just Couldn't Stick With It
boogiebob4 April 2015
OK, I admit pulling the plug after 1-1/2 episodes.

I really like these types of plots. Religious/political mixed with mystery/conspiracy sort of stuff. Although this theme seems to work better in books than it does on the screen. Mostly because so few actually know how to make a movie/TV show like this.

Why did I quit without finishing the 2nd episode when I have hung in there longer with programs that had less potential for improving? Primarily the horrible camera work. I can't keep watching something mediocre hoping the plot will improve while knowing that the irritating camera work will never improve. The whole juvenile shaky cam thing had limited usefulness at best back when it started. Now it's simply annoying, especially when it's 80-90% of the program. Why is an entire scene continuously wobbly when two people are standing still talking? There is nothing realistic about that.

Solid, well-crafted obviously over the heads of some bloggers
fullheadofsteam9 May 2015
In reading 20 reviews (prior to this one), more than half were positive and the overall IMDb rating was 7 stars out of 10. So WHY is the review that appears on the IMDb main page for this series a 2 stars rating??? But, getting beyond that obvious miscue, there is a blogging message board that has some negative (and to be honest, intellectually sloppy) comments that choose to focus primarily on the season finale. Now for fairness: the series does start out slow, but it is methodical and for those viewers who appreciate intelligent plot and character development over quick and slick carnival ride types of entertainment, then you're willing to keep tuning in and you will soon be hooked on the quality of this show. If you are easily confused and, even more, too easily frustrated by easy confusion, this is not the series for you. Otherwise, it is worth watching from start to finish, and the best way to watch the finale is to watch it back-to-back with the previous episode, as it was made as a two-parter, and if possible what is even better, watch the final 3 episodes back-to-back (O.K., take a brief potty and snack break!). Everything climaxes and comes to a comprehensible conclusion.

It's kept my interest
jeomo30 April 2015
It hasn't lived up to the hype, but that's why they call it hype.

It has a reasonably complex and sophisticated plot, so those who had trouble keeping up with the plot of first Mission Impossible, or who got stressed watching 16 Monkeys because its plot wasn't intended to be kept up with, should probably pass on this one.

It moves a bit slow, but that gives you time to ponder what just happened, and it picks up speed slowly from episode to episode. I didn't invest any effort in trying to guess what was going to happen next. With that mindset, a few developments took me by mild surprise and one didn't. I would not describe the plot in general as either imaginative or predictable.

The acting is respectable. I thought Lauren Ambrose was especially compelling as Debbie.

All in all, it's kept me interested. I just watched the 9th episode and am looking forward to the final episode with moderate expectations. Given how many things were left unresolved at the end of the 9th, I'm expecting it will wrap things up too hastily, but perhaps I'll be mildly surprised again.

8 stars closing in on 9! :)
gilligan196524 April 2015
At first, due to all of the hype and advertising, I thought that this would be 'just another' cheaply-made dumbbell TV show for small-minded people and the elderly who are prayed upon by churches and telemarketers...BUT, I WAS SO WRONG!

This is a fantastic EPIC TV SHOW with great locations; great actors; great characters; great writers; great, great, great everything! I love it!

The only thing I dislike about "Dig" is having to wait a week to see what happens next!?!?

It's definitely a "cliffhanger," just as Jason Isaacs says in the "Making of DIG."

I've always taken a great interest in foreign cultures, religions, and, histories, but, I think that this show will appeal to anyone who has an open mind and really wants to experience something with foreign cultures, religions, and, histories...and, with a lot of action, intrigue, and, excitement.

I love it! :) I just changed my rating to '9!' (May 3, 2015):)

*Gideon Raff, the creator of this series, is also the creator of "Tyrant." Check that out! (Update - Sept. 3, 2015).

Fun.
garlandlahr10 May 2015
In snowy Norway a strange ritual is carried out involving a cow, overseen by a fervently religious Jewish sect. In Jerusalem a dig is proceeding beneath the Dome of the Rock. In New Mexico a child is about to have his thirteenth birthday in an isolated compound. He has lived there all his life. He has never set foot beyond its walls.

"Dig" is enjoyably silly yet engrossing thanks to the fine cast giving this hokum much more credibility than it probably deserves. Heroes and villains alike have more depth than we are accustomed to seeing in this kind of show.

Jason Isaacs and Ori Pfeffer are fine together as the Mis-matched cops who initially hate each other ( you know the rest ) whilst trying to solve a murder and stumbling upon a global conspiracy that could be very, very, serious.

Anne Heche is especially good, bringing a wry humor and resourcefulness to a role traditionally limited to giving the hero 24 hours to solve the case.

Richard E Grant is rather underused.

The Jerusalem and Norway locations give the story a big-budget international feel and a refreshing change from conventional shows.

Each episode moves at cracking pace with slickly handled action heading towards an often surprising cliff-hanger.

The denouement however is less fulfilling. The story strands don't come together as the build-up suggested they would. The motivations of some villains are never satisfactorily explained.

One potential revelation, heavily foreshadowed throughout the season, is simply abandoned. (Some viewers may feel deceived.)

One main character is summarily dispatched off screen, others are simply never seen again, suggesting a clumsy rush to the finish line by the writers.

That said, "Dig" is consistently entertaining fayre, marred only by a weak finale.

A slow burning mystery, that shows potential!
t-a-sawada4326 October 2015
This is my first review of any television series or movie. I stumbled upon this show whilst searching for a new show to start. This show caught my attention because I love mysteries but I also love Jason Isaacs as an actor. I really loved him in the single season show "Awake." Mind you, "Dig" is not fast paced but is a suspenseful mystery to say the least, with a very intricate plot. If you're looking for a fast-paced action packed thriller then look the other way. Creator Tim Kring (Heroes and Touch), has created another show worth looking into. Tim Kring has created a puzzle with each piece being woven together one by one. I really do hope that they bring "Dig" back for another season!

fannyvanelewijck27 March 2018
Loved the storyline, but 10 episodes seemed not enough. At some times it seemed rushed to put everything in there to make story work. Longer and more episodes would have given the opportunity for a deeper emotional story.... It got stuck to much at the surface. Jason Isaacs is capable of so much more, why not show it. Loved Anne Heche too. And the rest of the cast....there could have been more depth, even though the dig was very deep.

Very thin
pavle6816 June 2015
I am not a conspiracy theories fan, but nevertheless I like a good story. This one isn't. Underdeveloped, full of holes, 'deus ex macina' situations which are magically solving apparent problems in script... That Moriah secret society is depicted as bunch of high school kids on a field trip to get drunk and laid. The Essen part of the story had more potential in it. Also the story of cop being conned by two archaeologists could have been a fantastic plot by itself if developed properly. The set though is the only thing I have enjoyed.

Acting is bad, especially on the US side of the cast. But not to blame it all on the actors, they seemed to be left clueless most of the time by script writers. yet i've watched it to the end. I usually do so with the TV series. At least their first seasons. Will pass the second one on this (if any).

Don't mind the low rating! It's amazing
Moviemaniac-551463 May 2015
I gave this title a solid 10 because it has all i wanted! The developing of the story is its strong point! Some said it draggs but actually its a good point that all the plot is not reveled by the end of its first 3 episodes unlike other series ! It keeps you hooked and craving for more till u gradually find out what is really happening but just the moment you think you know is the moment you will be shocked and left with your mouth open till the next episode comes out! I'm really enjoying this ! Hope they make at least 5-6 more seasons ! People watch crappy series like revenge but give 6.9 rating to this title!

Edge of your seat mystery... until it failed miserably
fingershop2 December 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This show has a lot going for it: great actors, interesting settings, intriguing historical type mystery. I watched in fascination as the secrets slowly became revealed, and the tension built and built through the ten episodes. And as the story was coming to its powerful conclusion... it suddenly died with a puff of dust and a splash of water. What the heck happened? For almost eight episodes the story got better and better. Why did the writers destroy it all in the last 2 or 3 episodes? Some examples...

Major Spoilers ahead.

Debbie (Lauren Ambrose) is a hard-life girl who finds some redemption for her bad choices, in protecting and trying to save Josh (Zen McGrath) the young messiah-in-training. She rescues him from his desert confines more than once, and the young guy helps her in their escapes, and the two of them have a certain connection together from their shared experiences. But in a twist as the story nears its climax, the good guy Josh ends up being the bad guy, and kills the hero Debbie without a struggle, and the hero dies a useless death. One quick and gurgling neck slashing, thus dies the hero.

Peter (Jason Isaacs) is a hard-life FBI agent, who finds some solace over his daughter's death when he meets Emma (Alison Sudol) a smart and somewhat innocent young woman, who he helps keep safe after her abduction, and as he wrestles with their mutual attraction to each other. He also finds a good friend in his antagonist partner Golan (Ori Pfeffer) who gives him unexpected support as they encounter numerous dangers while they protect Emma and piece together the answers to multiple mysteries. But in a twist as the story reaches its climax, the good guy Emma ends up being the bad guy, and kills the hero Golan without a struggle, and the hero dies a useless death. One quick and gurgling neck slashing, thus dies the hero.

Seriously? These are two different story lines in two different countries, and both of the rescued victims end up slashing the necks of their saviors, killing two of the main heroes right before the end.

The last few episodes have other issues that greatly weakened the story's ending. Let's see...

There was the young shy guy Avram who is the first character we get to know in the whole series and we follow him in each episode, which puts a huge importance on him as a character. But at the end his character doesn't make much sense. In his desire to protect the calf he can apparently justify killing a priest or the young boy Josh, all to keep them from killing the calf. But then he doesn't have to, and at the climax, just as the calf is to be sacrificed, he has no difficulty at all in simply walking away with the calf, when the surrounding crowds of people are magically distracted by a distant explosion. No conflict, no drama. Just walk away quietly and bring the calf to a far off farm to live out its life in peace.

And the exploding dam that was to flood big swaths of the city. It starts to crack, we see some gushing water in one small underground shaft, but that's it. And then shortly later, in the emergency drainage tunnels that were presumably being pounded with torrents of water, those tunnels are now somehow only damp and there is no water to be seen. What, did the big lake and river behind the dam completely drain in five minutes? Never mind that Emma and the archaeologist somehow survived being in those same drainage tunnels.

And then we find out that sweet smart Emma was apparently the mastermind behind much of what happened at the end. She was avenging the death of her family by the archaeologist, and did all this to maneuver him into just the right place so that she could kill him. Never mind that she'd been working with him, and even sleeping with him, for months. And never mind that she wasn't shown as being at all psycho during any of the other episodes, but at the very end she was. And though she was avenging the death of her family, she had no qualms about killing Golan, who she knew was a father in his own family.

And a quick shout-out to the big bad preacher man who dies a long lingering death from choking on a cashew. A cashew!

For the first seven episodes I'd give an average of 8 stars. But the last few episodes totally destroyed the story and many of the most important characters. A twist is only a twist if it was at least somewhat foreshadowed. Otherwise its just making stuff up. And after a full season of buildup you can't avert Armageddon by letting the calf loose in a sunny meadow.

I thought there were some episodes missing..

I don't recommend this one at all. When you are watching such a cheating series, you don't really know what's going to happen next, but you get surprised when it goes around. That's not the point. There's so much wasted time in nowhere-plot characters that you get angry with that.

Shame is the name of it. So much rush to get to a final destination and you get less than expected.

First episodes got you by the actors and the plot and that's what it's missing when you are near the finale.

At the beginning it was and 8, at the end it was a 2.

Sorry for that, I think it was too much hype and expectations were too high.

Worst series in a long long time ago..

Great Story - FINALLY

I honestly enjoyed this series. Why? It was more geared towards those who enjoy this type of creative historical and religious drama. Previously, I had often wondered if they would EVER create a more thought-provoking show that had a religious component. This is not because I am so overly religious, but its authentic feel makes the Armageddon concept more appealing (story-wise).

I have read many comments from others who quip about the slow pace, but I didn't mind it. Why? Not everything in life is an action movie - and I actually LOVE action movies. If you are expecting high paced madness ALL OF THE TIME, then maybe you should steer clear of this show.

Much like Mysteries of the Bible, I liked this premise. Authentic location (story-line) and casting - kudos! It was a different kind of show and I liked it. I hope that it returns because I will watch it. WRITERS, STUDIOS: PLEASE DON'T SCREW IT UP IF YOU EXTEND IT! IT WORKS!!
