- Reaching for the stars, when Rachel lands an audition to act in a TV show, Funny Girl takes a back seat, but it's not without some serious consequences; Meanwhile Kurt and Blaine perform for a celebrity with an eye for talent.
- We open with Rachel talking about her new stardom. She's signed with a top-5 talent agency, ICA. She tells her agent she wants to parlay the show into movies or TV. He responds that she has a face for TV rather than movies.
The famous widow socialite and art patron June Dallaway is coming to NYADA for a ribbon-cutting and Kurt is excited. He wants Blaine to sing "Story of My Life" with him.
Mercedes tells Santana her record label is concerned her album doesn't have a single and is threatening to withhold support. Mercedes asks for her help.
Rachel sings a somber version of "Wake Me Up" while we see the grind of her schedule over the first 50 or so shows. After one of her shows a network TV exec named Lee tells her he thinks she'd be perfect for a pilot. She tells him she's interested, but it requires a test reading in Los Angeles the following Tuesday. He suggests she let her understudy perform that day.
Rachel meets with Sidney. She says she's feeling the wear and tear of eight shows a week and is concerned about being rundown. She wonders about taking a show off but he isn't interested.
Mercedes and Santana work in the studio. After struggling Santana suggest she "get out from behind the glass." Mercedes and Santana sing "Doo Wop" while walking around the building. The producer loves it and thinks she's finally got her album.
Kurt advises Rachel against lying to her producer so early in her show's run. She talks him into agreeing it's a unique opportunity.
At the ribbon-cutting Kurt and Blaine sing "Story of My Life" for June. Afterwards June tells she recognizes a great deal of talent and asks him to escort her to a fundraisng event the following week where she can talk about the future. Kurt is beside himself with joy, but June says the talent she's interested in is Blaine.
Blaine feels guilty he'll be going with June alone, but Kurt tells him he can't pass on the opportunity.
At June's event she tells Blaine they need to be friends before she can launch his career. With donations waning, June brings Blaine up on stage and introduces him as "my new discovery." This leads into them singing "Piece of My Heart." The crowd loves it.
Mercedes and Santana go to the studio. She says she wants the song to be a duet, but the producer disagrees, saying he thinks it could be a mistake. He suggests they get somebody more famous and have Santana sing back-up. Santana agrees and leaves.
Rachel calls Sidney from L.A. coughing and tells him she has the flu. He's not happy, but says they'll have to go with the understudy.
Rachel's audition begins. She sings "The Rose." She's eventually interrupted and told the show isn't a musical. It's a Sci-fi opera and she reads with the star Andrew. She struggles with the script and is surprised when Andrew kisses her. It's cut short.
Outside Rachel sees 15 missed calls from Sidney. Her understudy fell off the stage during rehearsal and he needs her to get to the theater at 7:30. She grabs a cab and tells the driver to rush her to the airport.
June and Blaine have dinner. She wants them to do a showcase for him and his talent. He asks that Kurt be in the show as well. She says no, then tells Blaine to break off the engagement with Kurt. She tells him to make a decision and decide if he wants to realize his full potential.
Rachel's cab is stuck in traffic. She won't get to the airport in time and calls Kurt desperate for help. He thinks she should call Sidney with the truth but she won't do it.
Mercedes brings Santana a contract so they can work together. Santana thinks it's a mistake. Kurt runs in and tells them they need to delay the performance. Santana says she has a better idea.
Cut to Sidney finding Santana in Rachel's dressing room. She tells him that Rachel's not there and tells him she'll save the show.
Rachel makes Santana to thank her for saving the show. Rachel has a meeting with management so she still may get fired. Santana says she doesn't want anything in return, that she's turning over a new leaf as a good friend. Rachel gets emotional thinking about how she threw away her dreams for "nothing."
Blaine tells Kurt he and June are planning a one-night showcase and that Kurt will have a role. Kurt couldn't be more excited.
Sidney initially sounds very understanding with Rachel. He then says that he wanted to fire her. But he met with the investors and they've decided to keep her even though she lied to him. He warns if she ever does something similar again he'll fire her and sue her for breach of contract, ensuring she'll never work on Broadway again. She walks in the hallway and cries. She gets a call from the Fox exec, who offers a development deal for a new show built around her.
