He had not figured out anything specific but from looking at the footage of the elevator he saw that the backpackers had not pressed a button so they must already have known which floor Susan was on. He only mentioned this to Dave after which the assassin tried to kill him. This allowed him to deduce that Dave must have sent the assassin to kill him. Edit
