Suits of Woe (#7.11)

Warning: Spoilers
An amazing and brilliant episode. I am astonished by perfect acting, the great emotions that are both chilling and heart wrenching and the feel that this show will have a great wrapped up ending.

What can I say, the whole season where I felt we lost the love for the characters, and only followed the unnecessary brutality was actually very necessary to make this episode as strong as it was. All this happening is what makes us understand all the emotions of all the characters involved when they find out what is going on so much better. Jax whom I previously said I stopped liking for becoming a horrible person won me back by seeing how unnecessary the horrible brutality he committed was. And one feels so hard for him knowing that he is lost now as he wants to make Gemma pay and yet still loves her for she is his mother. Heartbreaking and I want to see how he deals with it.

Other characters were perfect as well. The conversation of Juice and Jax was great. So much emotions from both and great acting. I am sad for Juice, Ja promised him it will be quick but it pains me to see that he most likely will have to go, even though he loved this club more than anyone.

Gemma was perfect in this whole episode. Her obvious fear. Her saying good bye to her grandchild and also the final scene between her and Nero when he finds out. I actually like his character by now as well. My anger as a Clay fan is gone and I appreciate what great addition he was to this show. A gangster with so much kindness in him. His emotions when he was on the phone and also talking to Jax were also exceptional. bravo for this episode.

Top notch acting

Warning: Spoilers
I know I've been one of the most critical on here about this show, but it's perhaps because I find it so provocative. Not always for the right reasons, but when the creators decide to give the violence a rest and allow human emotion and drama to take over, it allows a pretty talented set of actors to flourish, and the plot to unfold very neatly.

Two scenes on here stand out for being very highly emotionally charged, and they both involve the revelation of (SPOILER ALERT) Tara's murder. I haven't always been impressed with Charlie Hunnam, but his acting in the scene with Juice (who, by the way, is one of the most unfortunate fall-guys in the history of television!) where he finally learns the truth is very heartfelt. There's also a very poignant, mainly non-verbal exchange that takes place between Nero and Gemma that goes to show why these two actors (Jimmy Smits and Katey Segal) are still at the top of their game after decades.

Again, I'm still highly critical of the show, but I can feel that it's set for a grandstand finish. Now if they can curtail the senseless, annoying gang violence and let the Shakespearean drama play out in the last 2 episodes, there just might be some redemption in my eyes.

Oh, and I knocked a star off the rating because of a stupid, totally unfitting jazz soundtrack accompanying a chase scene.

Going out with a bang
joncamaney11 January 2019
Where was this Sutter the last few seasons with all its inconsistencies? This episode and the one before have been absolutely masterful. For once, we have gotten some valuable character insight and development which has been missing from characters like Chibs, Tig anf especially Gemma. They have always been great but lacking depth. Too bad that the series kept us waiting till now, but at least it's going out with a bang. Katey Sagal is stunning as usual, but there is stellar work by Charlie Hunnam, Jimmy Smits, Drea de Matteo, Theo Rossi, Tommy Flanagan, Kim Coates, Dayton Callie and Theo Rossi. The club sit downs which incorporate recently introduced members voting on super consequential stuff are still ludicrous, but that's nitpicking. Last episode, Faith and Despondency and this one, Suits of Woe, are among the best of the series and can stand proudly with anything in the new Golden Age of TV.

Gemmas the Gatekeeper
leeann-7192820 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
"Gemma knows every truth behind every lie inside every secret, she's the gatekeeper." Such a great great line that Juice says to Wayne it really just sums up this show and really makes you think about the series as a whole. Theo Rossi absolutely killed this episode( no pun intended) and of course as always so did Katy Sagal.

One Of My Favorite Episodes
cdipatri20 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
The stops are all being pulled and anything is now possible with only 2 episodes left. Kurt Sutter and his writing team are master story tellers and this episode combined great writing and direction along with some of the finest acting I've seen since the beginning of this series. Charlie Hunnam, Jimmy Smits and Theo Rossi gave performances that were Emmy quality. Charlie Hunnam must have been emotionally peaked during his conversation with Juice because his English accent kept peeking through. Didn't matter, though, because his acting out-shined any errors. I can't say enough about Jimmy Smits' performance during the phone call from Jax when he was hearing the truth about Gemma. He had me holding my breath by his being unable to say anything. I don't know what excites me more. The fact that there are only 2 more episodes and the story is about to close...or the fact that when it's over, I can begin to watch from the beginning. My only question is when did Jax become such a kick- ass getaway driver on 4 wheels? The police chase was done really well.

I just hope the rumor mill is right and there is a prequel in the works. I'd really like to see Jax and Opie as kids and the whole triangle between John, Gemma and Clay.

Great episode

Superbly acted, written and directed. My only small nitpick - I noticed that Hunnam's American accent slips back into his native English one quite a bit in this episode.

For me this is probably one of the most gut wrenching episodes. The conversation between Jax and Juice!! Oh my gosh, I heard Charlie talk about this episode on the podcast Reaper Reviews and he talked about how when they did this scene Charlie wanted no practice, he just wanted to go in and it be as pure as possible. It was all one take and they all agreed it was the best scene they could have done only to be told they didn't get it on tape. I can't imagine what that would have looked like if this was the second take.

The love Nero has for Gemma is just so pure and you can watch his heart literally break when he is finding this out.

They deserved awards for their acting but they never got the love except for the one golden globe.

Lin - The Unluckiest TV Character Ever
therunner4220 November 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Episode 11 is not one of the most exciting ones this season. It certainly doesn't begin with the shocks of the one before it and for this show, there's not a lot of violence. What it does is reveal the season's biggest secret and focuses on the hurt of the various characters that realise what has been done and what they have done as a result.

There are a lot of tears and a lot of great acting. Juice (Theo Rossi) and Jackson (Charlie Hunman) perform one of the most emotional scenes in television and it makes for an outstanding viewing. We can easily forgive Charlie Hunman for letting his English accent slip in to the earlier parts of the show.

It is almost nice to get a break from the violence (with the exception of Lin killed about five minutes before he was exonerated) but we can only presume that things will build. It won't be long before they are all back to killing each other.

There's still one big cliff hanger to solve though. No it's not what will happen to Gemma? The problem of the rat has been solved as well. No the question that bothers me that I hope they address before the season finale is why does every single character have an archaic phone and what exactly does SAMCRO have against smart phones?
