The Boys from Brazil is a thriller novel by Ira Levin, published in 1976. It tells the story of Yakov Liebermann, a Nazi hunter who uncovers a shocking plan. Dr. Josef Mengele, a Nazi war criminal, has created clones of Adolf Hitler and placed them with families to recreate Hitler’s childhood. Liebermann must stop the plan before history repeats itself.
In 1978, The Boys from Brazil was made into a movie. It was directed by Franklin J. Schaffner and written by Ira Levin and Heywood Gould. The film starred Gregory Peck, Laurence Olivier, and James Mason. It was popular and got three Academy Award nominations.
Now, Netflix wants to remake the movie into a show. We don’t know much about the project but Jeremy Strong was already confirmed to be part of the remake back in February of this year.

Millennials of a certain vintage may know “Deli Boys” creator Abdullah Saeed from his cannabis-related content for Vice, including shows like “Weediquette” and “Bong Appetit.” With his new Hulu sitcom, Saeed has both made the switch to scripted series and upgraded to harder stuff. The namesake protagonists of “Deli Boys,” two spoiled rich kids who suddenly lose their father, are stunned to learn their family legacy isn’t actually a regional chain of Delaware Valley convenience stores: It’s the cocaine smuggling ring for which the delis were just a distribution front.
A crime comedy with a heavy skew toward the comedy, “Deli Boys” sets its unserious tone with the slapstick demise of patriarch Baba Dar (Iqbal Theba), who gushes blood after taking a golf ball to the head as his slack-jawed failsons Mir (Asif Ali) and Raj (Saagar Shaikh) look on in horror. Mir and Raj are a classic odd couple,...

Less than 24 hours after standing in front of the world to accept the best actress Oscar for her performance in Anora, Mikey Madison is getting glammed up at a friend’s guest house in Beverly Hills to shoot her morning-after cover for The Hollywood Reporter, when she receives a congratulatory text from an unknown number. “Who is this?!” she asks no one in particular, speculating aloud that it might be a producer of a past project … or perhaps a stranger who had tracked her down? As her two little dogs rest on the laps of friends, her proud twin brother watches from a corner and her newly acquired statuette gleams on a table nearby, one of her representatives quietly suggests, “It might be time for you to change your number.”
It’s not unreasonable advice for a 25-year-old whom everyone suddenly wants a piece of. After all, in one magical evening,...

Everyone is talking about the 2025 Oscar-winner for the best leading actress, Mikey Madison. But do you know the full name of Mikey Madison or her ethnicity? Mikey Madison, whose full name is Mikaela Madison Rosberg, is not a fresh face in Hollywood. Apart from her role in Anora, her other notable works include FX comedy Better Things, Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood, and the fifth movie of Scream. Despite her former works in big movie banners, many people did not expect her to win the Oscar.

Anora scored five Oscars on Sunday, but one of its wins took many, including Jack Antonoff, by surprise. Demi Moore was the odds-on favorite to win Best Actress, but The Substance star fell to Anora star Mikey Madison. But Madison's victory is not very surprising when you get down to it. Here's how she pulled off the win.
1. The stronger movie prevails over narrative
Anora won five Oscars from six nominations, with four wins for Sean Baker: Best Picture, Best Director, Best Original Screenplay, and Best Film Editing. The Palme d'Or champ was the Oscar frontrunner for most of the season, with just a short blip after its Golden Globe shutout before it claimed the Producers Guild of America and Directors Guild of America Awards to reassert itself. The Substance had five nominations, a great haul for a body-horror film, and won one, Best Makeup and Hairstyling. It...

Now that awards season has finally ended, the year’s biggest Oscar winners — including Anora filmmaker Sean Baker and his Oscar-winning lead actress, Mikey Madison — can take a well-deserved beat to consider what comes next. Here’s what the new crop of Oscar winners plan on doing as an encore.
Sean Baker
Before Anora, the films of Sean Baker had only received one single Oscar nomination: Best Supporting Actor for The Florida Project star Willem Dafoe in 2018. Now, Baker is in the Oscars history books as the only person to win four Oscars in a single night for the same movie. What a difference a single project can make. Baker has not yet revealed specifics about his follow-up film. Still, the filmmaker has said it will not stray far from his recent output, which has focused on sex workers struggling to navigate America’s capitalist society. “We’re going to...

The mood at Wednesday’s 40th anniversary Artios Awards may have been celebratory, but several casting directors acknowledged that Hollywood’s ongoing contraction is continuing to have a negative impact on their profession.
Before the awards show at the Beverly Hilton that paid tribute to the casting work on Wicked, A Complete Unknown, Emilia Pérez and Conclave, CDs privately lamented about the state of production in Los Angeles and how opportunities remain scarce.
“It’s been a hard time for a lot of folks in our industry,” Casting Society President Destiny Lilly tells Deadline. “There was the strikes and the recent fires which have been really devastating for people in this community. And there are still ripples from the pandemic. I think across the industry we’ve heard that there are fewer jobs and that affects casting professionals as well.”

Mikey Madison is still processing her Oscar nomination.
The 24-year-old actress, known for her roles in the FX series “Better Things,” as well as the films “Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood” and “Scream 5,” has been a working actor for over a decade, navigating the highs and heartbreaks of the industry. But this year, after her searing performance in Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or winner “Anora,” she’s found herself in the midst of awards season and an Oscar nominee for best actress.
Madison spoke to Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast for this week’s episode; listen below.
As much as “Anora” demanded from her, nothing compared to the final scene. Madison had been dreading it. “I would see it on the schedule and just think, Okay, it’s a couple weeks away, I don’t have to deal with it yet,” she says. “But then suddenly, it was right there.

Everybody Loves Raymond is forever. You could turn it on today, watch Ray complain, and it still hits. Timeless. The show dropped on September 13, 1996, and instantly became a classic. For nine years, it had us laughing and crying. With its penetrating humor and relatable chaos, it snagged 15 Emmys before ending in 2005.
The Barone family? Messy, dysfunctional, and always up in each other’s business. That’s why we loved them. Ray dodging his parents, Debra fighting for space, Robert being, well, Robert. It gave us classic moments we’re still quoting.
Patricia Heaton and Ray Romano in Everybody Loves Raymond (Credits: CBS)
But now it’s been 20 years since we said goodbye to Ray and his gang. Curious what the cast is up to? From career highs to personal milestones, we’ve got all the updates on the Everybody Loves Raymond family in 2025.

As always, 2024 has been one of the best years for the film industry. Despite the many roadblocks and issues, the audiences got to witness some of the finest films made across different genres and grand performances from new as well as seasoned actors. Each and every actor dreams of getting this prestigious honor, hoping to etch their names into Hollywood history. From seasoned veterans like Ralph Fiennes delivering career-defining roles to rising stars like Timothée Chalamet making their mark with breakout performances, the competition is nothing short of fierce.

Mikey Madison, who got her start on the FX series “Better Things,” is among the discoveries of Oscar season with Sean Baker’s “Anora.” As the title character — a Russian American stripper in Brooklyn who allows herself to fall for a client — she is alternately hard-edged and sentimental. Who better to pair her with than a star who worked similar magic this year? Pamela Anderson, in Gia Coppola’s “The Last Showgirl,” plays a Vegas stage performer who, like Anora, dreams of human connection. Anderson, like Madison, began her career on television, with “Baywatch.” In recent years, with the release of a memoir and a documentary about her life, Anderson has been having a renaissance, and Madison, who showed up with a notebook full of questions, was understandably awed.
Mikey Madison: How do you feel right now? I felt a little nervous when they called “action.”

Mark Eydelshteyn didn’t have an alternative audition tape for “Anora.” When the young Russian actor put himself on video for director Sean Baker to play Ivan in the explosive comedy, he did so in the nude. There were no second takes.
“The final version was the first version,” Eydelshteyn tells Gold Derby. “It was very risky and very scary, I was very nervous when I did it. But I just prayed to God that Sean would like it.”
Written, directed, and edited by Baker, “Anora” is one of the year’s true sensations – thanks in no small part to the contributions of Eydelshteyn. Mikey Madison is getting a lot of Oscar buzz for her powerful lead performance in Anora, but she got her first big break playing Max in Pamela Adlons underappreciated dramedy series Better Things. Madison is one of Hollywoods most promising rising stars right now; Anora is the latest of many high-profile roles shes played in recent years. In 2019, she played notorious Manson Family member Susan Atkins in Quentin Tarantinos 60s-set epic Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and in 2022, she played a new incarnation of Ghostface, Amber Freeman, in Scream.

The 25-year-old star of “Anora” is about to add a Breakthrough Performance Award to her mantel.
Mikey Madison will accept the coveted prize during this year’s Palm Springs International Film Festival — specifically at their awards show on Jan. 3, 2025, at the Palm Springs Convention Center. The film festival itself runs from Jan. 2-13.

Sean Baker sees the world differently. He found a magic kingdom in the pastel purple of The Florida Project’s multi-storey inn. Made a washed-up porn star an avatar for the American Dream in Red Rocket. Set Tangerine’s frenzied tale of a transgender woman’s revenge against the glittering backdrop of Christmas Eve. And now in Anora, his Palme d’Or-winning odyssey, turns Take That’s ‘Greatest Day’ — a song largely adored by a mum demographic — into a sex-worker anthem.
It makes for one hell of an opening sequence: Gary Barlow and co’s hopeful lyrics about shared vitality (remixed to a club beat) scoring a line-up of athletic strippers, their customers barely visible beneath them. “Watch the world come alive tonight… Stay close to me.” At the end of the undulating chorus line twirls Mikey Madison’s Ani (short for Anora), smiling serenely, long, dark hair cascading around her,...

Mikey Madison has come bearing snacks. The Anora star and I are scheduled to meet in Woodbridge Park — a blip of a green space in Studio City, California, with picturesque benches, a sprawling playground, and plenty of trees. Toddlers wobble about the play area with their moms (or nannies). Exactly on time, Madison, 25, strides across the grass holding two blankets and a stuffed bag of Trader Joe’s goodies. By her side is a tiny, golden-brown Chihuahua named Jam, with bright-green eyes.

Sean Baker films are often masterclasses in casting, and Anora is no exception. In the past, Baker has been known to discover talents with his films. This much was true in Tangerine andThe Florida Project. These films exposed audiences to new actors, including Kitana Kiki Rodriguez, Mya Taylor, Bria Vinaite, and Brooklynn Prince. All of these performers were not stars before acting in Bakers film, but the indie director then introduced audiences to them through intimate and well-crafted storytelling.
Anora is a little different from these Baker films of yesteryear. Instead of using a complete unknown like Viniate or Taylor, Anora finds its lead in Mikey Madison. Anora's reviews are great so far, and Madison has been especially praised for the potency of her performance in the film. Unlike the case of previous Baker protagonists, Madison has an established background in acting, and thus is a more recognizable actor. Still,...

Here’s the official synopsis from Neon:
Anora, a young sex worker from Brooklyn, gets her chance at a Cinderella story when she meets and impulsively marries the son of an oligarch. Once the news reaches Russia, her fairytale is threatened as the parents set out for New York to get the marriage annulled.
