Mikey Madison is still processing her Oscar nomination.
The 24-year-old actress, known for her roles in the FX series “Better Things,” as well as the films “Once Upon a Time in… Hollywood” and “Scream 5,” has been a working actor for over a decade, navigating the highs and heartbreaks of the industry. But this year, after her searing performance in Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or winner “Anora,” she’s found herself in the midst of awards season and an Oscar nominee for best actress.
Madison spoke to Variety’s Awards Circuit podcast for this week’s episode; listen below.
As much as “Anora” demanded from her, nothing compared to the final scene. Madison had been dreading it. “I would see it on the schedule and just think, Okay, it’s a couple weeks away, I don’t have to deal with it yet,” she says. “But then suddenly, it was right there.

Everybody Loves Raymond is forever. You could turn it on today, watch Ray complain, and it still hits. Timeless. The show dropped on September 13, 1996, and instantly became a classic. For nine years, it had us laughing and crying. With its penetrating humor and relatable chaos, it snagged 15 Emmys before ending in 2005.
The Barone family? Messy, dysfunctional, and always up in each other’s business. That’s why we loved them. Ray dodging his parents, Debra fighting for space, Robert being, well, Robert. It gave us classic moments we’re still quoting.
Patricia Heaton and Ray Romano in Everybody Loves Raymond (Credits: CBS)
But now it’s been 20 years since we said goodbye to Ray and his gang. Curious what the cast is up to? From career highs to personal milestones, we’ve got all the updates on the Everybody Loves Raymond family in 2025.

This year’s Academy Awards season is set to become one of the most interesting and tightly contested seasons in the past few years. Everything from amazing biopics to genre roles has been delivered, and audiences have seen some amazing works from actresses within all categories.
It seems that besides showing the nominees’ performances and technicalities, the 2025 Oscar race is going to highlight their social and cultural influence and there will probably be some conversations that take place off the red carpet.

Despite the many roadblocks and issues, the audiences got to witness some of the finest films made across different genres and grand performances from new as well as seasoned actors. Each and every actor dreams of getting this prestigious honor, hoping to etch their names into Hollywood history. Mikey Madison, who got her start on the FX series “Better Things,” is among the discoveries of Oscar season with Sean Baker’s “Anora.” As the title character — a Russian American stripper in Brooklyn who allows herself to fall for a client — she is alternately hard-edged and sentimental. Who better to pair her with than a star who worked similar magic this year? Pamela Anderson, in Gia Coppola’s “The Last Showgirl,” plays a Vegas stage performer who, like Anora, dreams of human connection. Anderson, like Madison, began her career on television, with “Baywatch.” In recent years, with the release of a memoir and a documentary about her life, Anderson has been having a renaissance, and Madison, who showed up with a notebook full of questions, was understandably awed.
Mikey Madison: How do you feel right now? I felt a little nervous when they called “action.”

Mark Eydelshteyn didn’t have an alternative audition tape for “Anora.” When the young Russian actor put himself on video for director Sean Baker to play Ivan in the explosive comedy, he did so in the nude. There were no second takes.
“The final version was the first version,” Eydelshteyn tells Gold Derby. “It was very risky and very scary, I was very nervous when I did it. But I just prayed to God that Sean would like it.”
Written, directed, and edited by Baker, “Anora” is one of the year’s true sensations – thanks in no small part to the contributions of Eydelshteyn. In his English-language debut, he plays the impetuous son of a Russian oligarch who sweeps a sex worker named Anora (Mikey Madison) off her feet as part of a whirlwind romance and then casts her aside when his family finds out. “Anora” won the Palme d...

Mikey Madison is getting a lot of Oscar buzz for her powerful lead performance in Anora, but she got her first big break playing Max in Pamela Adlons underappreciated dramedy series Better Things. Madison is one of Hollywoods most promising rising stars right now; Anora is the latest of many high-profile roles shes played in recent years. In 2019, she played notorious Manson Family member Susan Atkins in Quentin Tarantinos 60s-set epic Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, and in 2022, she played a new incarnation of Ghostface, Amber Freeman, in Scream.
Anora has made Madison a bigger star than ever. Sean Bakers darkly comedic tale of an exotic dancer who impulsively marries a Russian oligarchs immature son is tipped to be a major contender come awards season. Its expected to land a Best Picture nomination, a Best Director nomination for Baker, and a Best Actress nomination for Madison. Madison gives one...

Sean Baker sees the world differently. He found a magic kingdom in the pastel purple of The Florida Project’s multi-storey inn. Made a washed-up porn star an avatar for the American Dream in Red Rocket. Set Tangerine’s frenzied tale of a transgender woman’s revenge against the glittering backdrop of Christmas Eve. And now in Anora, his Palme d’Or-winning odyssey, turns Take That’s ‘Greatest Day’ — a song largely adored by a mum demographic — into a sex-worker anthem.
It makes for one hell of an opening sequence: Gary Barlow and co’s hopeful lyrics about shared vitality (remixed to a club beat) scoring a line-up of athletic strippers, their customers barely visible beneath them. “Watch the world come alive tonight… Stay close to me.” At the end of the undulating chorus line twirls Mikey Madison’s Ani (short for Anora), smiling serenely, long, dark hair cascading around her,...

Mikey Madison has come bearing snacks. The Anora star and I are scheduled to meet in Woodbridge Park — a blip of a green space in Studio City, California, with picturesque benches, a sprawling playground, and plenty of trees. Toddlers wobble about the play area with their moms (or nannies). Exactly on time, Madison, 25, strides across the grass holding two blankets and a stuffed bag of Trader Joe’s goodies. By her side is a tiny, golden-brown Chihuahua named Jam, with bright-green eyes.

Sean Baker films are often masterclasses in casting, and Anora is no exception. In the past, Baker has been known to discover talents with his films. This much was true in Tangerine andThe Florida Project. These films exposed audiences to new actors, including Kitana Kiki Rodriguez, Mya Taylor, Bria Vinaite, and Brooklynn Prince. All of these performers were not stars before acting in Bakers film, but the indie director then introduced audiences to them through intimate and well-crafted storytelling.
Anora is a little different from these Baker films of yesteryear. Instead of using a complete unknown like Viniate or Taylor, Anora finds its lead in Mikey Madison. One week before its theatrical release, festival sensation “Anora” has unveiled its full trailer.
The Sean Baker film, which won the Palme d’Or at this year’s Cannes Film Festival and has played through the roof at festivals in Telluride, Toronto, and New York, will have a limited platform release starting October 18.
Here’s the official synopsis from Neon:
Anora, a young sex worker from Brooklyn, gets her chance at a Cinderella story when she meets and impulsively marries the son of an oligarch. Once the news reaches Russia, her fairytale is threatened as the parents set out for New York to get the marriage annulled.
“Anora” stars Mikey Madison as the title character. The actress, previously best known for her work on the television series “Better Things” and in hit movies like “Scream” (2022) and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” is widely considered a top contender for Best Actress at the 2025 Oscars.

Babes (Pamela Adlon)

Dìdi (弟弟) (Sean Wang)
While trying to chat up classmate Madi (Mahaela Park) on Aim, Chris (Izaac Wang) skims her MySpace for an “in”. Tuesday delivered a big night for Mikey Madison.
“Are you kidding me? This is where I’m from. I was born and raised in Los Angeles and my entire family is here to see this movie for the first time. It’s a little nerve-wracking, too,” revealed the actress while standing outside the iconic Vista Theater in the city’s Los Feliz neighborhood. Madison, 25, has been acting for more than a decade and done many red carpet premieres in her career but the occasion of sitting through Anora for the first time amped up the anxiety with her siblings and best friend also in the building.
The Sean Baker film, released by Neon Oct. 18, marks many firsts for Madison. After racking up credits on Pamela Adlon’s Better Things, Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood and the 2022 reboot of Scream, Anora is the first time she’s...

Previously known for roles in “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood,” “Scream 5” and TV’s “Better Things,” 25-year-old Mikey Madison achieved a breakthrough earlier this year at the Cannes Film Festival as the title character in “Anora,” which ended up winning the Palme d’Or. Now, as the fall film festival season has heated up, she has taken the lead in our overall odds for Best Actress at the Oscars according to the combined predictions of Gold Derby users. Before "Austin Powers," "Johnny English," and "Top Secret!" there was "Get Smart," the 1960s spy sitcom that mined the genre for laughs when the James Bond and "Mission: Impossible" franchises were still in their infancies. Co-created by comedy legends Mel Brook and Buck Henry, "Get Smart" ran for five seasons from 1965 to 1970, earning seven Primetime Emmys and plenty of other accolades along the way.
Stand-up comedian Don Adams starred as Maxwell Smart, the sometimes inept top-secret agent who regularly held the fate of the world in his hands ... and often almost fumbled it. By his side was the beautiful, super-cool Agent 99 (Barbara Feldon), who loves Maxwell despite his clumsiness and penchant for messing up missions. The central trio was rounded out by Edward Platt's The Chief, the supportive leader of the intelligence agency Control, which employed both Agent 99 and Maxwell.

This year’s Telluride Film Festival was not short on mononyms. There was Martha, as in Stewart, the subject of R.J. Cutler’s excellent Netflix documentary “Martha.” There were Angelina, Pablo, and Maria, as in, respectively, Jolie, Larrain, and Callas, the subject of the Netflix biographical drama “Maria.” There was Trump, as in the former president, who is played to perfection by Sebastian Stan in “The Apprentice.” And there was Bing, the Great Dane who won over audiences in the tearjerker “The Friend.”
But with due respect given to the acclaimed names above, none made a bigger impact on the festival than “Anora.” Sean Baker’s bold, hilarious, exhilarating new film had its North American debut in Colorado over Labor Day weekend, and the Palme d’Or winner played to packed houses and was often mentioned as a standout among attendees. The only thing celebrities love more than reminding normies that they’re our superiors is convincing us that they really know how to laugh at themselves. Larry David was relatively unknown as a show business personality when he created Curb Your Enthusiasm, in which he could continue litigating social niceties as he had as a co-creator of Seinfeld. Ilana Glazer and Michelle Buteau fizz in the Better Things creator’s directorial debut, a rapid-fire riff on pregnancy, motherhood and female friendship
Motherhood changes everything. Or that’s the received wisdom anyway. However, Eden – Ilana Glazer, who also co-wrote the film and rattles out her lines with a flip, crackling energy that veers between the scatological and the screwball – didn’t get that particular memo. A freewheeling, terminally single yoga teacher from Astoria, Queens, she is not about to let an unplanned baby derail her life. Her personality is stamped on to every aspect of her pregnancy. Her birth plan features helium balloons and tiaras; she has already compiled a Spotify playlist of party bangers for the delivery room. And holding her hand through it all, Eden assumes, will be her best friend since childhood, Dawn (Michelle Buteau).
But Dawn has a demanding career and family of her own:...

Allow me to quote myself for a second. From a June “Awards Circuit” column: “Since this is the last chance for ‘Reservation Dogs’ to get some Emmy awards attention, it would be a shame if it didn’t finally get some long overdue recognition.”
We did it, kids. “Reservation Dogs,” which had been virtually ignored by TV Academy voters for the first two seasons, finally got some Emmy nomination love right as it ends its run. And it gives me renewed faith in the fact that sometimes the media can make a real difference in shining a spotlight on deserved shows and performers.
After all, we’ve all been tubthumping for “Reservation Dogs” since it first went on the air at FX. It’s a special show, and I was reminded of that again while watching an FYC screening of the finale at Vidiots in Eagle Rock. I’d seen...

Mikey Madison's history as a villain makes her Lady in the Lake character instantly suspicious. Madison, known for her unsettling roles, is set to become a breakout star in 2024. Madison's appearance in murder-centered shows like Ouatih and Scream makes her a prime suspect in Lady in the Lake.

John Landgraf called Emmy nomination day a “kick in the teeth.” But he meant it in the best way possible — and the fact that the normally unflappable FX boss was mixing his metaphors on Wednesday morning is perhaps all the evidence you need that even he was gobsmacked by the programmer’s stunning haul this year.
FX scored 93 nominations at the 76th Emmys, including a record-breaking 23 nods for “The Bear” and 25 for “Shōgun,” this year’s top nominee. That put FX within striking distance of tally leader Netflix (107) and above HBO (91).
“Our prior record total was 56,” Landgraf told Variety, referring to the 2016 tally that included “The People vs. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.” “And I think we hoped and had some optimism that we might break that. I wasn’t looking for something in the 90s. I thought, maybe, it was conceivable we might break 80. But even that seemed a little too optimistic.

Scream’s Mikey Madison stars in Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or winner and we’ve got our first look at the film. Watch the first Anora trailer here.
Sean Baker’s Anora was crowned the Palme d’Or winner in May, the highest honour of the Cannes Film Festival. Previous winners include Anatomy Of A Fall, The Triangle Of Sadness and Parasite, so it’s safe to say the Cannes people know what they’re talking about.
Anora follows Mikey Madison’s stripper who falls in love with the son of a Russian oligarch. We’re sure this is going to be a very straightforward, wholesome romance.
Watch the first Anora trailer below.
We’ve embedded the greenband trailer above in case you’re watching it from your work desk and would like to avoid embarrassment, but Neon have also released a raunchier redband trailer. You can find that here.

On Monday, Neon released the trailer for “Anora,” writer-director-producer-editor Sean Baker’s Palme d’Or-winning film. It’s American audiences’ best look so far at the highly anticipated comedy-drama.
Neon describes “Anora” simply as a “love story.” It stars Mikey Madison as Anora — Ani for short — a sex worker from the Russian enclave of Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. When she meets Vanya (Mark Eidelstein), the young son of a Russian oligarch, she gets swept up in a whirlwind romance that culminates in their elopement. Hollywood Commission Expands Board Of Directors With 3 New Members, Including FX Chief John Landgraf

The Hollywood Commission, the Anita Hill-led organization that spearheads collaborative efforts to end harassment and abuse in the entertainment industry, is expanding its board of directors.
Sister CEO Cindy Holland, Harvard professor Alan Jenkins, and FX boss John Landgraf join the board immediately, the commission announced on Wednesday. They will join Hill, as well as co-founders and fellow board members Kathleen Kennedy and Nina Shaw.
“We are grateful for the leadership, as well as the unique perspective and depth in content production and law, that Cindy, Alan, and John will be bringing to the board. As we set our agenda for the medium and long term, their brilliant minds and clear-eyed view of the state of the industry will be invaluable,” Hill, Kennedy and Shaw said in a joint statement.
