Mollywood The superstar had a heartwarming message for his colleague’s son, Pranav, and his 'proud parents Lal and Suchi.' Tnm StaffMalayalam superstar Mammootty on Wednesday had a heartwarming message for colleague and fellow superstar Mohanlal’s son, Pranav, for his upcoming debut film Aadhi. “Wishing our dearest Appu who you all know as Pranav a wonderful entry into world of cinema! For us he is just like one of our own children and has grown up before our eyes. He’s turned out to be a fine young man and will definitely delight all of you with his talent and charm. All the best for #Aadi to dearest Appu and also to his proud parents our Lal and Suchi,” he posted on his Facebook page on Wednesday. Mammootty also wished Pranav’s parents Mohanlal and Suchitra good luck for their son’s entry into the world of cinema. Pranav, known within the industry by his pet name Appu, will be debuting as hero in Jeethu Joseph’s Aadhi, an action-thriller which is set to hit the theatres on January 26. The movie is bankrolled by Antony Perumbavoor, under the banner of Aadhirvad Cinemas. Pranav is playing an aspiring musician in the film, which is supposedly high on action sequences. An interesting detail about Aadhi is that most stunt sequences, barring one, has been performed by the 27-year-old himself, despite father Mohanlal requesting for dupes to carry out the action sequences. Director Jeethu Joseph in an interview had also said that the Malayalam film industry would get an exceptional actor if Pranav decided to continue in cinema. Pranav made his acting debut as a child artiste in Onnaman in 2002. He then went on to win the Kerala State Film Award for Best Child Artist for his performance in Punarjani. He has also worked as an assistant director under Jeethu Joseph in the Tamil film Papanasam which had Kamal Haasan and Gauthami playing the lead roles. The star cast of Aadhi has Siju Wilson and Sharafudheen as well as Anusree, Lena, Siddique, Aditi Ravi, and Nobi. (With inputs from Digital Native)...

Jeethu Joseph’s 2013 film Drishyam (“Visual”) caused a sensation in the Malayalam film industry (from the state of Kerala in the south of India) when it became a smashing box office success – it managed to revive the flagging career of Complete Actor Mohanlal and its box office record take of over 60 crore rupees remains unbeaten. It went on to remakes in four other Indian languages, including a Tamil version, Papanasam (“Destruction of Sins”) starring Tamil superstar Kamal Haasan and directed by Joseph himself. After a brief foray into the coming-of-age genre with popular comedian Dileep in 2015’s Life of Josutty, Joseph is back with his Memories star Prithviraj (who is coming off a string of hit films in the last year) in a...

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year” goes the Xmas song, but it also applies to sorting through the dreck and crap that came out of Bollywood in 2015. I watched many of these duds so that you don’t have to, and trust me they’re not as hilarious as I’m going to make them, because for every great Jodi like Srk-Kajol in Dilwale there’s Sunny Leone being paired with Ram Kapoor. Yet there were some awful gems like Msg and its sequel that came out in the same year – take that annual Fast and Furious franchise! Herewith is the worst and secretly hilarious of the year.
Worst Actor – Emraan Hashmi for Hamari Adhuri Kahani/Mr X
After doing so well in Shanghai, and Ghanchakkar, Emraan decided to play it safe with his performances in Hamari Adhuri Kahani (paired opposite Vidya Balan) and the atrocious Mr X.

The Tamil can do it better than the French. At least, this time. The redoubtable famished-to-the-finish actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan’s insatiable hunger for new challenges now leads him into sin.
Kamal Haasan plays a grey, eminently corruptible cop who lands up in a mess when he tries to outsmart some very dangerous drug dealers who retaliate by kidnapping the cop’s young son. Interestingly the little kidnapped boy looks more bored as a hostage than frightened, probably because the boy knows if you have Kamal Haasan as a father there’s no way the baddies would beat you.
Not by a long shot.
Or maybe the boy has watched the French film Nuit Blanche while Dad’s been cruising the crime beat. We are told, in fleeting moments of domestic revelation, that the cop-hero Diwakar has not been a good husband (to Asha Sarath,...

This summer’s second take on Jeethu Joseph’s 2013 Malayalam tale is an overlong yet still deftly satisfying film
Some may decry the news that the Fantastic Four franchise has been rebooted after a decade. Drishyam marks the Indian cinema’s second crack this summer at its own material: Jeethu Joseph’s 2013 Malayalam thriller of this name, remade first in Tamil (July’s Papanasam, again directed by Joseph) and now in Hindi by writer Upendra Sidhaye and director Nishikant Kamat.
The temptation is to ascribe such speedy recycling to commercial imperatives – in theory, Hindi grants the story its biggest audience – but even on its third spin, this story still feels fresh, urgent and relevant to a moment when we’re surrounded by screens.

There’s an abrupt tonal shift from dom-com to tough-thriller a third of a way through this intriguing meta-murder drama, ripe for English language remake
In last week’s Sardarji review, I mentioned how Indian directors and stars frequently move between the country’s regional industries. The new release Papanasam arrives as a fine demonstration of how ideas can likewise cross those same borders.
Jeethu Joseph’s thriller Drishyam was one of Malayalam cinema’s biggest hits in 2013; Joseph has now remade it in Tamil, porting over a compelling (and very contemporary) idea about images, and what we do with them. Perhaps it’s the proximity of these cinemas, but little appears to have been lost in transit: the central conceit travels more comfortably than those sustaining many recent remakes.
