A particular series with twisted plot and plain settlement
BeneCumb18 January 2016
In the recent decade, the Scandinavian countries (Denmark and Sweden in particular) have launched so many good drama thrillers that is difficult to follow up, partially also due to the fact that the number of performers involved is limited and you begin to wonder have you seen this or that or not... Also in Gåsmamman, there are several actors often seen in related films/series, e.g. Alexandra Rapaport, Magnus Roosmann, or Shebly Niavarani, but its venue is somewhat distinct from other Swedish series - the events take place in a limited time and locations, the flashbacks are in the beginning of the following episode only, thus bringing back the highlights what happened before. In spite of lots of drug-related felonies and problems, a lot of time is dedicated to family ties, with minor children playing a significant role. The latter is probably the reason why the main solution is no inevitable crime result, but a more complex issue when difficult choices are to be made by and within close relatives and kinsmen. So, the cast does a good teamwork, the leading character/performance does not stand out too much.

In general, a strong crime series, but not among the Swedish finest, no Bron/Broen, for example. The plot could have been a bit more compact (perhaps 5 series), some events and scenes are protracted: 7.5 points for plot, 8.5 for performances.

Should have stopped after the first season
altereggo12310 April 2020
Season 1 was pretty good. Not great, but it had some interesting characters, a few mysteries and surprises, and a genuine dilemma-should the heroine be loyal to her sleazy, drug-dealing family members, despite the fact that they are endangering her and her kids, or cooperate with police?

Sadly, while the dilemma of Season 1 had some internal logic, Season 2 completely "jumps the shark" and defies plausibility. By Episode 3, you may want to through your remote at the TV screen.

You would have to have complete amnesia about Season 1 to believe the behavior of the characters in Season 2. I wish they had just ended the series. Or if it had to keep going, start over with a completely fresh and different situation rather than asking us to accept absurd plot developments. I have no idea what Season 3 or 4 are like, because I just couldn't get past Season 2.

Great casting , fresh take

Warning: Spoilers
It's not the biggest series out there with huge explosions and actions scenes but it's a different type of thriller with a very interesting cast . I don't know who the Swedish actors are . Some of them I have seen in other series but most of them was new to me when I saw the first season . It's takes a little while but I couldn't stop watching . It's really exiting and fresh take of the genre . I really adore Alexandra Rappaport and the children in the family are also very good . The policeman Shebly Niavarani , who was a new face to me it's also great and Christian Svensson is great as Barry . I'll hope they go on with the plot

So far intriguing yet infuriating

I'm on season 2 of Gåsmamman and Sonja the mother is getting in my nerves constantly I mean seriously how can someone be that stubborn and straight up just stupid. And that goes with the sister as well Nina, she doesn't piss me off as much as the mother but season two is full of stupid and idiotic decisions. So far into the series Gustav and Linus are the ONLY two characters I actually like. This isn't much of a review but I wanted to rant about this. I do hope this series gets better especially the characters because I am very close to quitting...not really I'll probably just skip scenes just to see gustav or Linus. Linus especially I love Edvin Rydings.

Better then the original :)
jjriedijk-0447316 February 2024
So the original is Dutch (like me) but done better. Better acting, better scenes and better developed story. Really like all the actors in this show. It's just really hard to find on streamers. Seen season 1-4 on Disney and after that it became a quest to find the next one. Season 5 was on Viaplay and season 6 now on Canal+ I think.

Allthough seasons 3,4 felt bit like repeating story and action, I'm still curious for the next part. Official statement says that season 6 was the last one, but just saw a TikTok with the Gasmamman kids explaining they are shooting the new season. Confusing but exciting...

It was a good show...
pia-ellefsen25 September 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I watched all through season 4 and started 1st episode of season 5, but stopped halfway through it.

It just became too stupid and I fell completely off!

Season 1 was decent enough to move on to season 2. Season 3 was ok as well as season 4... It's repetitive and predictable.

SPOILER!!!

Taking on the new role as a head of top criminal organisation, you would think that they would be more professional and smooth. But sadly no!

All the "rookie" mistakes they make already in the 1st episode is just annoying and not believable, so I couldn't watch anymore!

Sorry but they should've stopped at season 4.

B Grade Scandinavian Noir
qui_j10 November 2019
This series recycles the usual pool of Swedish actors in a plot that's been done to death many times over, and in a variety of countries. This series differs in that the script seems to be written in a childish way with dialog to match. It seems to have been made to fill a slot on TV, and to provide the actors with work. Not outstanding in any way at all.

One for the books!
ett-moln-i-byxor10 September 2019
I can't see what's so apealing about this serie. The plot may be ok but hardly original, the script however is not hit and the acting not so great. Swedish series at it best, underworked, silly and somehow enertaining.

Omg the main woman Sonja is an idiot
tearitdownner12 January 2023
The main woman character is so stupid and she's like afraid of her own shadow. She's weak. She has no presence and she is a total thorn in the side of this show. Lucas is the best character along with Barry, but this Sonia chick she just has no balls. Her daughter has more balls than she does, I mean it started out good but then it became just like this scared older woman like doing stupid things and everybody just excepting it you know Lucas gets shot people get killed I mean she's just an idiot all the way around and deserves to go to prison for life or better yet I just kill her off. It's too bad because it could've been really really good serious.

A too long but brilliant
MaxKalba6929 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
A really cruel, tragic and joyless series and definitely too long. After the third season I wouldn't have been able to watch another episode, but I don't leave anything unfinished. Sonja Ek dies/rescues/kidnaps probably 50 times and she plans to escape with her family just as many times, but something always happens. His character is written to be incredibly stupid.

No episode is purely positive and something unpleasant always happens. Although the series tells about the life of a criminal family, the tragedy is exaggerated.

It's hard to believe that any criminal would be able to stay in the business after everything the main characters face in their roles. Everyone gets shot multiple times, almost everyone eventually dies from the bullets.

It's amazing how long the cast has been able to invest in the series.

Good idea but goes on too long.
