When Katie, the school teacher, looks for her son she and police officer Jake see Patient Zero through a window, and he looks rough, like he has a supremely bad cold. Right after this, Katie and Jake see Dr. Sanders and her boyfriend dead in a morgue room.
Yet right after this a briefing is shown in which Dr. Cannerts says Patient Zero's symptoms intensified and killed him BEFORE Dr. Sanders and her boyfriend died.

Sabine Lommers supposedly works for the CDC, which stands for the Centers (plural) for Disease Control, only all the signs throughout the series read Center (singular) for Disease Control.
Patient Zero was able to attack his doctor while in confinement and get his bodily fluids all over the other man, yet given the risks the virus posed the doctor would certainly have been in a full biohazard suit rather than wearing a mask and visor that could be pulled away.
The night scene at the end of the Pilot shows steam heat arising from the gutters behind the crowds...Atlanta does not have centralized steam heat like NYC.
Although it makes for dramatic television, Patient Zero would have been laid in a medical bed rather than placed in an empty, prison-like room with one doctor. He would likely be attached to many IVs and other equipment, and if he began to rage and become a risk to doctors, would have his limbs restrained. There would be more than one doctor working on him, trying both to keep him alive and investigate the virus. The need for isolation does not mean doctors can't set up a normal hospital bed and other resources.
