In case there were any doubts that this season would be as heart-rending as the first two, this masterpiece sets up plot threads that feel like they're heading towards pure heartbreak. It's hard to watch but impossible to stop watching. What it succeeded at provoking in me was a sense of dread as I linked its events to the final scene in the previous episode. Before, it looked like Nora and Kevin were doing so well that there was no way they could possibly separate again. But now, it's becoming horribly clear that they're not okay. Kevin's plastic bag and Nora's broken arm are bad enough but the apparent discovery of yet another way to see the Departed again (I call fake!) opens up old wounds. The sad thing is Nora and Kevin had, for the most part, moved on and found new lives. Now this needless thing is reminding Nora of times past.
Also tragic is the discovery of what happened to Kevin and Nora's adopted child. How sad. Like this show as a whole. Why is it that the hints of a brighter future never last?
As for the final scene. What the hell was that and what was Kevin's father doing there? I don't know and I can't wait to find out. Whatever the answer is, I'm sure that, like the whole of this show, it's going to be tragic.
