Hilarious

As a professional pilot I actually cried laughing. Not criticizing the acting or special effects but they really could have used the input of even an amateur pilot.

A passable thriller - watch it, forget it! [+40%]
arungeorge1315 January 2021
Horizon Line feels like a one-line plot stretched into a 90-minute film with lead characters that have negligible chemistry between them and not worth caring much for. The only interesting thing about it is that one-line thread - stuck on a plane with the pilot dead. Josh Campbell and Matthew Stuecken previously wrote 10 Cloverfield Lane, a sci-fi thriller (with undertones of horror) that I enjoyed. But the advantage there was the underlying mystery and the solid lead performances. In the case of Horizon Line, we get neither. Keith David as the pilot who dies early on is the only character that showed some semblance of being likeable. The protagonists, played by Allison Williams and Alexander Dreymon, are total whatevers, without fleshed-out stories (or even a solid verbal reason) to back them up.

This implies that the film completely relies on extracting tension due to their current situation alone (that of manoeuvring a plane to safety without a pilot). There's the fuel outage plot-point that drives most of the (outrageous) decisions and stunts in the film. The plot-point is used purely as a stress-inducing device because the characters can't have a regular conversation between them. The only few times they do, they mouth ridiculous lines like "Omg, that must have hurt so much. I can't believe I just did that!". When the performances lack panache, director Mikael Marcimain only has the technical aspects to retain viewer attention. Many of the green-screen shots embedded with CGI look a little off, especially the ones from the exterior of the plane. It's still a watchable fare; one that ought to be seen and forgotten.

Meh, just ok
kgrv20008 May 2022
I watched because of Alexander Dreymon. This film doesn't really know if it wants to be a love story, an action thriller, or a survival movie. The title is misleading to say the least. But to pass the time, this is actually entertaining, kept me watching just to see how it goes. Trivia: the lead characters in real life ended up having a child together.

This is a joke. Must be.
mevzun23 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
One word. Ridiculous. Period.

GPS broken. Auto pilot broken. TWO. Phones are broken. Radio not working. Ok.

You can't just dive in at Max speed and start climb like a fighter jet with Cessna Cargo. You just can't.

You can't open doors on cruise speed. You just can't.

You can't climd to wing because.. No because, please? You just can't.

You can't open fuel cap on cruise speed with one hand. It will vacuum the fuel out. Also you just can't.

Some little booze can't be used for fuel. Also it will hold just a couple of minutes max. Wow. Just wow. I've never seen something like that before in a real movie.

Why did you dump the only decent poor actor of the movie at cruise speed? Just for 90kg max? Youll make that excuse at the court house mam. You are under arrest for murder.

What kind of a storm is that?

They didn't land. They crushed after all that stupidity. And a boat found them. Just wow again. This can't be anything more than a joke.

Not logical

I stopped seeing my friend after she recommended this movie.

Plane's fuel depot filled 25% after one bottle of booze. And this is just a one ridiculous fact and there is hundreds more. I mean, really???

Wow what a movie
Doubleredrolex14 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I had no information about this movie before I watched it. The sheer amount of technical errors in this movie is mind blowing. Crawling out on the wing to fill the gas tank with booze and somehow being able to yell and communicate with the pilot at the same time. This is one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

Not that bad at all...it's for entertainment!
mcsinteriors17 January 2021
Does the movie have some silly parts, yes, but it entertained me for the full 1:30. Not every movie has to be an Oscar contender. Sometimes movies are just meant to be fun, silly, and take you to another place for 90 minutes. This accomplished that.

If You Aren't Related To The Cast And Crew...Avoid

If you don't care about the characters living or dying what's the point?

Includes some of the stupidest scenes I have had the displeasure of watching.

I'm in the minority, but I found it quite watchable
jordan224027 November 2022
Yes much of what happens is unbelievable, but so is most everything that happens in a Bond and Mission Impossible movie (and such), but those are generally well-liked, so I think this one deserves some love as well. The actors did an excellent job of portraying the sort of emotion that might go into the circumstance they find themselves in, and the special effects were well done. I have to wonder if Dreymon was filming this at the same time he was shooting The Last Kingdom since his look was similar. I was not familiar with the lead female actress, but thought her performance was very believable.

I was certainly never bored while watching, and there was enough suspense and action to keep the popcorn flowing. For me, this was much better than its rating on IMDB.

So bad it's terrible!
markprc14 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Where do I start? What seems like a simple and enjoyable premise turns into a completely over the top load of tripe. I mean climbing outside of the plane while in flight.... Come on! I won't list this film many faults. If anything watch it to see just how bad this movie is.

Predictable, but fun
masones-3401015 January 2021
The story was totally predictable, but it was a fun ride. I don't know what the other reviewers were expecting....Shakespeare?? I enjoyed it and it had me on the edge of my seat almost all the time....and really Alexander Dreymon....please.

It is pretty good
mick-471211 November 2020
I don't understand why there are so many bad reviews regarding this movie. I thought it was rather good. Simple, but very entertaining to watch. It had me at the edge of my seat throughout the film. Overall, I would recommend it if you want to see a suspenseful, easy to understand action movie without you having to think about it too much that will entertain you for an hour and a half

Irredeemably ridiculous writing and terrible editing.
FKDZ5 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
Where do I even start. This movie is all over the place. First off something you will instantly notice is the editing, apparently this movie doesn't really care about showing characters moving or traveling, because in the first ten minutes you've been all over the island and introduced to characters we get to know almost nothing about and contribute zero to the story. The editing does clean up, I mean it's impossible for it not too with this plot. But the first segment feels and is incredibly rushed.

Now my main complaint, the two leads. I expect this kind of acting out of a 80s cliche slasher flick, not something trying to be serious (like really serious). The lead actress is so dull and is terrible at showing much if any emotion. The male lead pretty much the same. But the writing, oh the writing for the female lead could not be more obnoxious. There is just zero depth. From the start of the movie they make the main theme pretty much about her not wanting to say goodbye....not because she had some crazy trauma or anything no... just because she doesn't ''like'' to say it?!! I don't physically facepalm during many movies but this made me, the scene was so stupid.

Now the one short highlight of this movie was the pilot and actual good actor. He brought a bit of levity to the annoyingly serious tone of the movie. But sadly he didn't stick around for long. And this goes into another scene where she has to push him off the plane to make the plane lighter. They make it such a drawn out and emotional moment (though she can't cry so nothing hits) but ALSO we know almost nothing of their relationship, and suddenly we're supposed to feel this emotional bond? But also when she finally got communication on the radio she mentioned the pilot being dead as one of the last things?! You'd think that would weigh heavier than saying ''I'm the pilot in a happy tone!".

Now what happens when you put two boring actors with no chemistry in a plane together for 1 hour? I guess you just start doing crazy stuff like climbing on the wing and smashing random whisky bottles. Just so many moments where you think ''why/how?!" and not in a good way.

The directing is just about okay. My main problem was that most of the movie played out on a obvious static plane set with a bunch of green screen. So the background was always filled with bloom and the plane never had that realistic turbulence. So it rarely felt like they were actually on a plane.

With that all exterior shots of the plane are CGI and you can notice it. One of the worst shots though is when the camera just has the cgi plane centered in the middle and it just looks awful.

The soundtrack has some free royalty music tendencies but overall not the worst thing.

Now the finale, think you can't be let down enough? Talk about the most lackluster ending to a disaster/survival movie EVER. A random boat, in the middle of nowhere just SHOWS UP because why?! Who knows the movie needed to end I guess! Terrible. There's barely any sense of dread they won't make it, and oh.. they hint at sharks being underwater because the boyfriend is bleeding. But literally nothing comes of it, not even a shark coming close when they get on the boat. I mean Sara even looks back at the ocean like she's reflecting on the events, which doesn't say anything because we've been on a plane for 90% of the movie! How does that even make senses?!

I can rant on about so many more things but I'll leave it here.

I went into this movie blind, locally theaters were about to close again and we just wanted to go one last time for a while. Sadly it was disappointing and it wasn't stupid enough to be funny to me.

2/10 don't even bother I was so happy when it ended.

A gaffe per minute. Suspend your disbelief and your brain.
rlovell-1524619 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
You don't need a pilot's license to mock this movie. It is so full of holes and gaffes that I couldn't roll my eyes far enough back. Where do I start? Letsl's start with a technical one. How about why wasn't there suddenly massive amounts of drag when one of the two victims climbed OUSIDE on to the wing strut of the aircraft? How about why didn't they feel the effect of being outside in 130mph wind? How did she not get blown off the top of the wing?? How does a 2 litre bottle of rum turn into 5 gallons of avgas accord to the fuel gauge? Why, if the pilot before he died not change frequency, weren't they instantly answered? Why, from the height they were flying, in beautiful clear visibility, could they not see the islands they had been flying towards or at least another one? The islands around there are quite closely grouped. Why did the aircraft not immediately start to lose altitude when the fuel ran out? Why did the prop not windmill as she didn't feather it? The island they see finally must be five miles away yet so if they gliding they sre descending, by the time they saw it they would have been almost in the drink. Why did the yoke shake and shake when they are luckily approaching the island? There is no physical stall warning stick shaker on that model. How did they make 50 feet last 150 feet? Etc etc. Rubbish. Avoid.

Defies physics and all common sense
radernick10 February 2021
This is one of those movies where the characters are so dumb and the story is so ridiculous that you want them both to die a horrible death...repeatedly. Whoever wrote this story/script should never be allowed to touch a pen again. Both characters have to go outside a flying plane for one reason and another...and I never knew it was so easy to just "hang on". They also manage to break everything they need on the plane...the compass...the gps...fuel tanks...the autopilot...the rum. As I write this, I again want them to die a horrible death. Avoid this movie at all costs.

Just good entertainment
dhanisingh-4044517 January 2021
Nothing here to stretch your mind. Just good edge of your seat entertainment. Don't expect too much and you will find this very entertaining. The suspense holds right to the end and its not as predictable as you would expect. Its a good one.

The Plane Should Have Crashed, And Saved Us Instead
jostannie2 April 2021
Yep, if only the plane had simply crashed with all board and saved us all from having to suffer this piece of garbage. When will the Yanks learn how to make a decent, credible and intelligent thriller?

Have to be honest; I've never laughed this hard while watching a thriller. That's how horrible it was. The acting was terrible. The characters were annoying AF. And the plot was absolutely ridiculous. Just don't go. I promise you'll hate it.

Alexander Dreymon!
mamashop-3741113 January 2021
I really liked the movie I thought it had some suspenseful moments . I really enjoyed Alexander's performance. But Come on Hollywood couldn't you have done a better job of dressing him. The man is gorgeous and has a ridiculous body. It would've been nice to focus on that a little more. Women like Eye candy too. Don't think he's a white sneaker kind of guy. Rather have seen flip-flops or sandals. The suit was three sizes too big for him. Sorry but I would've been better as a wardrobe consultant, no insult intended.

Entertainment that even kids could watch
kellyjtmorgan13 January 2023
If you are looking to this movie to be the one you tell everyone about over drinks and rave about how they must see it, we'll keep moving. This ain't that. What it is good for is killing some time on a sleepy rainy afternoon. Parts are so unbelievable they hurt. But you can still get somewhat drawn in if you let yourself. I will admit to fast forwarding in a part or two that were just too far fetched. The acting won't win any awards either but take it for what it is. Escapism. Fall into it and go along for the ride. There are a lot worse movies out there. And the kids can even watch this one if they don't mind the plot and all the holes.
