Who knew Vince Vaugh could pull this off?...
paul_haakonsen10 June 2018
Wow! That pretty much summarizes this entire movie.

This movie was quite an unexpecting surprise. And I dare say that this was without a doubt the best movie that I have seen Vince Vaughn in, and he was just phenomenal in this role.

The storyline in "Brawl in Cell Block 99" was quite good, and it grabbed my interest from the very beginning. The movie didn't let go until the very end, so you will be entertained from start till end.

There was a good flow to the storyline, which really helped to speed the movie along and make for a good, wholeheartedly movie experience.

They had a great ensemble of cast, which included Don Johnson and Udo Kier as well, aside from Vince Vaughn.

The special effects in "Brawl in Cell Block 99" were adequate, but the prosthetics especially the faces were horribly fake. And it was painstakingly clear that it was prosthetics being used. But luckily, this is the type of movie that is not overly dependent on having bedazzling special effects to function as an entertaining movie.

The ending, however, was sort of a slap in the face, to be blunt - pardon the pun. But, a good and entertaining movie movie nonetheless.

Good Lord, This Is A Rough Movie To Watch
Sawyer-481516234225 October 2017
First of all, if you are squeamish (even a little) DO NOT watch this movie. But if you've got the stomach for an extremely violent (and sometimes depressing) movie this might be worth your time.

Vince Vaughn does an excellent job. In fact, the acting in the whole movie is surprisingly good for a grindhouse-style flick. This is about a man in a bad, bad position, who bad things happen to, and who in turn does some very bad things. But if you can handle this type of movie you will be entertained.

The action is gritty to the point of being potentially sickening. I was disturbed, and yet I wish more movies took this approach to action. The fight scenes are not comic bookish like so many movies, rather they are brutal and somehow realistic. Honestly they were the best thing about this movie.

Don't expect a brawl in the sense that a whole cell block starts fighting riot style. This is more of a Bronson-esque "one man out for revenge" style of movie.

The only negative I noticed is that there were a few unbelievable parts regarding the prison system, but they were needed to drive the plot along in the direction it went. Viewers should really just suppress their disbelief (and gag reflexes) and just strap themselves in for the ride.

Recommended for anyone that can handle the darkness and appreciate the brutally gritty craziness that is this movie.

Vince Vaughn Hardcore!
stephenw-3018013 October 2017
I was pretty much blown away by "Brawl in cell block 99". I was a big fan of S.Craig Zahler who Directed the film Bone Tomahawk. This film is better in many ways. I'm hooked on his genius.

To say the film is violent is an understatement but nothing any hardcore thriller/Horror fan hasn't seen before. This film delivers the violence, however, with a purpose and is almost just given the narrative. Zahler turns the protagonist into an antihero. With superb zeal.

I am a fan of Vince Vaughn and this film is a testament to his terrific range and ability as a great American actor. In fact, I think it's his finest performance to date. In the spirit of not divulging any spoilers, I will just give potential viewers my opinion of the film as a whole.

Supporting cast of Don Johnson, Udo Kier and Jennifer Carpenter are outstanding! Direction was phenomenal as it guides the viewer through the story line with such ease, in a hard to tell plot.

Nothing is gratuitous or overdone. It's simply a great story with simple plot, done in a purposeful way. For a film with 132 mins.runtime it goes very quickly. A testament to a great movie.

I have become a huge fans of S. Craig Zahler and can't wait to see his next film.

Fans of violent Thrillera told in a relevant way with great dialog, do not miss this film!!

Once again..,Bravo Vince Vaughn for a spectacular performance! It's hard to believe, after seeing this film, he spent most of his career in comedic roles.

Bold & Brutal!

1. Bone Tomahawk

2. Dragged Across Concrete

3. Brawl in Cell Block 99

But as my rating suggests I think it's pretty great, and just like the other two I will watch this one again.

I was afraid I wasn't gonna be able to take Vince Vaughn seriously in this type of role but I did. I certainly took him a lot more seriously than I did in the second season of True Detective. I personally like his performance in Dragged Across Concrete more but he was still really good in this. And I never thought I would find him intimidating.

Also, casting Don Johnson as the sadistic warden was genius!

And now I want to check out more grindhouse movies!

Who says there is no such thing as time travel....?
A_Different_Drummer13 October 2017
Because writer/director Zahler has taken his audience back to an era when films were simpler, direct, and, above all, unrelenting in their pursuit of a single theme or idea.

He has manufactured a true guilty pleasure -- a film about a man making bad choices that is driven by brilliant characterizations, raw Adrenalin, and a compelling narrative that makes you watch no matter how much you know you should look away.

In the grand tradition of Charles Bronson and Clint Eastwood, Vaughn, an actor once relegated to romantic comedies, does "the" physical role of his career and it is a barn burner.

There is no pretense at class. This is 1960s grindhouse from start to finish and if you have any doubts just listen to the closing music at the 2:05 mark --- a brisk orchestral piece that sounds more fitting to a vaudeville act than a melodrama. Zahler ends the show by signalling that he was messing with your head, overloading your senses, all along -- and moreover he was doing it deliberately and knowingly.

Don Johnson, an actor who continues to win SEXIEST MAN ALIVE awards for merely showing up at the ceremony, wanted to try something different and succeeded - his cigar-smoking, sadistic warden is a masterpiece. Unforgettable.

A hard film to review, a difficult film to classify, and an impossible film to ignore. The closest analog in this era would be the highly stylized, and highly violent, films from South Korea that glorify the individual over the system.

Highly recommended.

One of the Most Brutal and Graphic Prison Movies
claudio_carvalho6 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
When the tow truck driver and former boxer Bradley Thomas (Vince Vaughn) is fired from his job, he decides to work transporting drugs for his friend Gil (Marc Blucas) to have a better life with his wife Lauren Thomas (Jennifer Carpenter). Bradley is a family man and eighteen months later, Lauren is pregnant of a girl. Gil decides to associate to the drug dealer Eleazar (Dion Mucciacito) against Bradley's will. When he goes to bring a shipment of drugs with two men from Eleazar's gang, they do not follow his instructions and they stumble upon the police. Bradley protects the police officers killing one of the gangsters and is arrested. Bradley does not rat Gil and is sent to a medium security prison for a seven-year sentence. Two days later, Bradley is visited by a mysterious man that tells that Lauren has been kidnapped by Eleazar, who lost his shipment and two men in the operation. He tells that Bradley must kill an inmate called Christopher Bridge that is inmate in the cell Block 99 of a maximum security prison. Otherwise Lauren will be submitted to a surgery to remove the limbs of her baby that will be sent to him. What will Bradley do?

"Brawl in Cell Block 99" is one of the most brutal and graphic prison movies ever made. This genre usually produces good films and series and "Brawl in Cell Block 99" is no exception. However this film is more graphic than most of them and the underrated Vince Vaughn has an extraordinary performance in one of his best roles. The plot is realistic and scary, and Bradley Thomas is an intriguing character, family man with moral values and extremely brutal when necessary. My vote is seven.

Title (Brazil): "Confronto no Pavilhão 99" ("Showdown in the Cell Block 99")

Note: on 13 November 2022, I saw this film again.

More frightful than most horror movies. A very surrealistic, brutal n engrossing movie.
Fella_shibby9 August 2021
I saw this for the first time recently. This movie was on my radar for a long time.

Having enjoyed S. Craig Zahler's Bone Tomahawk, Asylum Blackout n Dragged Across Street, i had huge expectations n this movie went beyond my expectations.

This movie is very engrossing n shockingly brutal.

This one has some witty dialogues n some humor.

Vince Vaughn gave a terrific performance n his character is amazeballs.

"Pretend like u r talking to god".

"He doesn't smell like nachos".

Not exactly a movie for sissies.
peterp-450-29871624 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
"You said you would never work for Gil. So we're both breaking promises today."

Vince Vaughn in a crime movie where he plays a rough-looking drug dealer? You gotta be kidding me. Although he surprised me with an excellent part in "Hacksaw Ridge", I always associate him with feel-good, romantic crap movies with the kind of humor I never laugh about in most cases. Well, I was totally wrong this time. Vince Vaughn is ruthless, mega calm and ultra-brutal in this extreme violent film. Better yet. He's even funny now. Funnier than whatever comedy he played in before. And this thanks to the dryly, humorous remarks he makes sometimes. The moment someone mentions his name again, I'll see that tattooed cross on the back of a bald skull directly in front of me.

Life hasn't been so good for Bradley (Vince Vaughn). After being fired, he finds out that his wife Lauren (Jennifer Carpenter) is cheating on him. Next he starts working as a drug runner to bring in some money. Before he knows it, he's facing a long prison sentence because of a failed drug deal. And from that moment on, the movie changes into a higher gear. Indeed, the movie wasn't really fast till that moment. Before you even see anything of a prison, you've been watching the screen already for some time. And then it goes from bad to worse for Bradley. His wife is being kidnapped by the leader of the drug gang (who wants to regain his financial loss) and Bradley has to kill an inmate who's locked up in cell 99 in the heavely guarded prison of Red Leaf.

This is without a doubt Vince Vaughn's best acting achievement ever. Finally his impressive body is being used for the right purpose. Relentlessly beating up opponents and transforming them into a pile of crushed human flesh. Something that'll happen regularly in this ultra-violent film. Every time it looks as if Bradley has to lift his immensely heavy limbs and strike a guard or another criminal with devastating force in the face. The result is always repulsive brutal. Seeing a skull bursting open like an overripe tomato or the awareness of what the Korean is going to do with Bradley's wife, may be a bit too much for some. "Brawl in cell block 99" certainly isn't a film for sensitive viewers. But this sadistic violence serves a purpose. Bradley has a specific goal in mind and is therefore forced to take this violent path.

There were a few things in this film that shocked me. The fact that I didn't recognize Don Johnson baffled me. Was it because of that gigantic mustache? Or was it his age (he's already 67 years old)? Or is it just me? And then of course the fact that I'm speechles about the acting of Vince Vaughn, who clearly deviates from his usual acting pattern. I don't think of Vaughn as being one of my favorite actors. But after his performance here, I have to revise my opinion about him. And finally the impression this film made on me. I'm not easily shocked and got my share of extremities used in movies. But this time I was a little bit out of my depth. Somehow the movie messed me up. And that's not necessarily because of the explicit violence. It's the overall feeling. I do know that next time I come across a movie with Vince Vaughn playing in it, it won't be so obvious to just avoid it. He literally knocked himself to the top of my list of "the better" actors.

BRAWL = WTF! Give me MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ToxikStench17 October 2017
Let me allay any fears this movie is lame, as stated by a couple reviewers here. Their opinions here are extremely inaccurate. With that being said....

Vince Vaughn is a shining star in this brutally violent, perfectly paced story, with a descent into a hell only his character can navigate. The movie is rare in that it's not slow, boring or overdone. Each piece is compartmentalized on purpose, to guide the audience to the climax. There isn't a big list of elite A list actors, huge musical score, tons of CGI, no. What you have here is director's genius, visualizing the journey from A-Z in a way that will captivate you. You will not want the movie to end.

I do think this is a turning point for Vaughn, as I only usually see him in romantic movies or comedies. He's truly found his spirit here and I hope it leads him to similar roles. He plays it in a way you've never seen him. Try to imagine Tom Hanks playing a man without a care. It's that hard to wrap your head around.

Don Johnson shines as a degenerate warden and the small cast of characters scattered throughout the movie play key roles in the makeup of the plot; all done to perfection.

Trust me y'all, you DON'T want to miss this one, it will have you begging more for more, guaranteed! So much face smashing destruction is actually a delight. I will not spoil a single thing, go see it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

More Like Fight To The Death
cbak2232 April 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Well throughout film history we've all enjoyed a good prison movie watch am I right?! Stallone bringing it in with Lock Up, that was my first looks into the prison life setting. Relatively young, with no prison experience behind or in front of me fortunately this film made you never commit a crime. there has been many others through out film history that have stuck with us over the years, one of this generation that just might stick for a while is Brawl in Cell Block 99 staring Vince Vaughn. This hard look and rough life of the main character is brought to you by the man behind Bone Tomahawk, if you haven't seen Bone yet please do so, building quite a following from cult fans and Hollywood actors is steadily growing. this man is S. Craig Zahler, writer, director, even composer of this film which is great. Normally wearing many hats in the industry means you have too because your an independent filmmaker, the budget is there so I'm sure its for creative control of the film, written and directed I'm sure its creative control of the film that is produced is exactly what you've envisioned. Now onto Brawl in Cell Block 99, don't be deceived by title, its sort of a brawl throughout multiple locations. We start with the main character Bradley Thomas who is a repo man that gets fired at the start, just in the first 10 minutes you surely get the feel that this character is going to battle throughout, life is going to throw it at him one punch at a time. after being fired and going home he sees his wife lauren Thomas played by the very talented Jennifer Carpenter, looks like she's had a long night sort a speak and he see's this and loses his temper. Its evident at this point that Bradley is going to go through it for sure. Bradley looking for a new job and a way to pay the bills, has to resort to his past life, running drugs, guns, etc. you name it for his employer Gil ( Marc Blucas) and his associates. needless to say things go south while taking one of these jobs and costs a few people a lot of money, thus going to prison on a plea would've been nice, at first its a minimum security prison, very lax and some of the others there are friendly and warm up to him, then Bradley receives a visitor at the prison Placid Man ( Udo Kier) and tells him that his wife and they're unborn child would be harmed in a most gruesome way if he does not kill a fellow inmate in the prison, but not this one, a different prison that is a high security maximum penitentiary run by warden Tuggs (Don Johnson) and its a lawless place basically void of life for the worst of the worst criminals. Ill let who ever reads this extend their time to watching it because it is a decently directed, well acted film, but let me forewarn you, just like his other films S. Craig Zahler has under his belt he shows you not a quick story to be rushed through, these films build characters, locations, and more importantly the will to watch a longer film and feel like its not dragging you across concrete, little pun there. Overall Vince, Jennifer, Udo, and many other cast members truly bring this universe to life for Bradley Thomas, so enjoy the ride, or should I say the Brawl in Cellblock 99.

Where were you all my life Craig Zahler?
Aria_Athena23 June 2021
Why was this movie in my watchlist for so long, shame on me. This film was my introduction to this director/writer, and I love his style.

This is a violent movie, but with a lot of personality and humour along the way. Vince Vaughn does a great job portraying a sociopath pushed into an impossible situation.

The pacing, the structure of the story, the dialog, the action, all superb. This movie is a journey all right, and an expertly shot one at that.

Grit and grime of prison life
aarosedi30 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
A stand-out performance for Vince Vaughn, who is usually remembered as that smart-ass talkative dude in those romantic comedies. But his mesmerizing and unforgettable portrayal of the Bradley in this film places him, in my opinion, in the pedestal of memorable action film roles. Jennifer Carpenter and Don Johnson, who together with other players, also has helped solidify the narrative that the director/writer wishes to express.

The character Bradley's demeanor reminded me of the type that he played in the superbly haunting film The Cell. His imposing, statuesque figure is put to good use, I should say, and I can't help having a soft spot for a big guy like that who would rather spend his free time whilst serving his jail sentence knitting baby feet warmers than play boxing. But the gods of tragedy has different plans.

I only managed to watch the "skimmed milk" version, the one that had to abide the certain ratings guidelines, and yet it still has not robbed me of any fun. The. DVD will have to fill me up with on the gratuitous bits I have been denied, I guess, but I feel that the brilliantly executed fight scenes are more than just some choreographed mindless brawling. The mindless part perhaps, one could say, on the part of the wardens who always finds it difficult to subdue Bradley having gone bat-(bleep) crazy on them or the bad guys trying to beat the excrement out of him to make his stay in the prison a depiction of hell.

My rating: A-minus. Really.

Absolutely brutal, b-movie-grit action/revenge flick
witster1827 December 2017
Hits hard like "The Boys Next Door" meets "Walking Tall". The film is extremely unrealistic(in many ways), but Vaughn is solid. He sells this character. The fight scenes are choreographed quite well, and are far more realistic than the settings and timeline. It's a real strength for the film. You feel every punch and Vaughns strength really manifests itself on the screen. Kudo's to the director/choreographers. Plenty of action throughout - also enough playful sarcasm to keep it from being too heavy handed.

Put your brain on hold and just watch Vince kick some butt. Have yourself a cigar, a beer, and don't read too much into it.

Budget constraints are probably the main cause of the films' shortcomings, so I'm not docking-it too much for that. I don't want to raise expectations too high, but if its just the action/revenge junkies that like it 7/10 like me -I understand. Skull-crushing madness. Hard R!!!! The filmmakers must've gone through an "albeit different" hell(as the main character) getting this an R rating. Id say Id love to see an unrated version, but really, this was plenty. Nice to see Vince in a better non-comedic leading role. He still didn't get enough backstory/wife-time. A little more background dialog, along with shaping up some sets, and this could've been interplanetary B greatness.. as it is.. also slightly underwritten and a little unpolished.. 7/10.. guilty pleasure niche flick..

This is gonna go cult-status among some action fans, gore fans, and in particular, revenge fans.

Vaughn's size sells every superhero aspect. Almost a little m.night "unbreakable vibe" too, only nowhere near as good camera-work, or story. I assume many of those faults will be excused because the film knows exactly what it is, unabashed and prideful B-actioner with at least a smidgen of heart to keep it together.

Better than most films of this guild. I dig the "what makes a man tough" thing.. that works here.. Tough guys are born of harsh histories and fearlessness... that aspect is realistic. My marginal recommendation is turned high if u fit the bill for this type of thing. Better than Stallone's "Lock-Up" or "Escape" - Not by much though - 69 out of 100.. Most of the "you'll like this if you liked" films mentioned in the description, but add-on 2008's "Escapist" and the same years' "Felon", both a touch better. For 1.50/nt at the redbox, it's a worthwhile view, but absolutely NOT for kids(or even teens?), and seriously consider whether you wanna invite the wife. Hardcore B-Movie.

BRUTAL.

How on earth did this get such high praise?
domesticatedprimate15 October 2017
I watched this movie constantly repeating that question to myself, I can't believe i was fooled by a reviewer here that actually stated this was the best movie They'd seen all year. There are scenes that are so bad i couldn't tell if they've intentionally been put in there for comedic effect or they were intended to be serious. One such scene is when the main character Bradley (played by Vaughn) dives into a body of water only to re emerge seconds later bone dry. It was honestly like an amateur teenager had directed it and spent the entire budget on Vaughn's fee. By the end they couldn't even be bothered to use any special effects and opted to use crash test dummies. It takes more than shocking violence to make a movie, i've seen it being compared to a Tarantino flick but at least his movies have substance and great quotable dialogue. Fans of B-movies may enjoy but for me it was so bad it became comical.

Vince Vaughn getting back to his comedic roots
13SecondFilmReviews27 July 2020
When I saw Vaughn's shaved head and cross tattoo on the back of it that looks like he drew on himself, I burst out laughing and looked forward to his hilarity shining through. He did not disappoint. Him playing a redneck tough guy had me in stitches. The funniest aspect was when he would speak in a southern drawl in one scene, then switch to a midwestern accent in the next. Pure comedic genius. Too bad this wasn't a comedy because I laughed 99 times!

Overrated and overlong.
sharkies6922 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Having grown up in the seventies and eighties through a wonderful era of exploitation cinema, I can appreciate this film for what it is.

I am shocked though at the high ratings it has received.

The fire fight on the wharf when the police show up is laughable. The cops and the drug dealers unloading all manner of weapons and hiding behind their cars whilst only seemingly ten to fifteen metres apart. Seriously?

Fans of Blood in, Blood Out, American Me, Animal Factory and Runaway Train should enjoy this film.

What a pity the late Edward Bunker wasn't still around to polish and tighten up the screenplay.

S. Craig Zahler is 2/2
adamfreedman9014 October 2017
S. Craig Zahler is proving himself to be a director worth paying attention to. I became a fan after seeing Bone Tomahawk, and have read several of his novels including Mean Business on North Ganson Street and Wraiths of the Broken Land. Also, his incredible un-produced screenplay The Brigands of Rattleborge.

BRAWL is very similar to Bone Tomahawk in terms of pacing, story structure and tone. A slow descent into a hellish situation.

I don't agree with people who say he is a "second-rate Tarantino." Tarantino does homage. Even Robert Rodriguez, in his attempts to do exploitation films, call too much attention to themselves and end up bordering on spoof, whereas BRAWL just simply is an exploitation film.

Perhaps some of Zahler's dialogue works better on the page than spoken, but I still think he is a great writer.

The low-key style of the film, with the every-man type of character Vaughn plays who gets mixed up in a serious situation makes this movie seem like a combination of Nicolas Winding Refn's PUSHER II and Cassavettes' KILLING OF A Chinese BOOKIE.

There are even some subtle hints of ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13.

My only real gripes are that some of the dialogue exchanges are kind of stilted, and the staging of characters in some scenes seems too stiff and unnatural.

I like that the themes, such as privatization of prisons, are beneath the surface and not drilled into the audiences' head.

Its not a perfect movie, I hope Zahler continues to branch out but its a cool throwback movie that isn't trying to play it safe or cater to a wide audience and knows what type of movie it wants to be.

Hardcore revenge at it's best.
deloudelouvain1 February 2018
Warning: Spoilers
I have to admit I didn't expect much of a movie with a title like Brawl in Cell Block 99. It's not the most appealing title, that's the least we can say. But it was actually a good action movie with some pretty hardcore violent scenes. Some people will find them a bit harsh to watch, but I didn't mind it at all, I even applaud it. It's gore but also funny to me. So if you read negative reviews about this movie it will come from people that can't cope with violent scenes like in this movie. The story isn't bad at all, even if it was a bit predictable. But since it is an action movie I was not expecting a difficult story. A good revenge story, nothing beats making your own justice. Vince Vaughn has the physique to play his character. His fighting scenes might be a bit slow but they fitted his character perfectly. So if you like me like hardcore revenge movies you will probably like this one as well.

Some great things here, but kinda falls short because of illogical decisions and acting.
zylphias23 October 2019
First off, several things about the movie is good. I like the story, production and the cinematography. It makes things seem alot more real than most other movies. This movie also have a very dark atmosphere that i like. The fighting scenes is also very good.

The acting is decent. First of Vince is doing a good job. There are several moments which arent so good, but i generally buy his bad-ass trait. The warden however (Don Johnson) is a cliche out of this world. His performance is laughable and painful to watch. Several of the guards doesnt seem believable at all with their macho performance.

The movie also makes some really illogical decisions. Why in hell would he kill those accomplices in the beginning of the movie? There is no reason why he would do that. His character would never do that. Is that for us to believe that really is a good guy, since he sort of helped the cops? Not only do he get a longer sentence in form of manslaughter, but everyone knows that your boss will make your life a living hell.

So by doing this, his wife gets kidnapped and therefore the movie has some kind of plot. So only reason for his choise is for the movie to get further in the story and him to get in conflict. If the boss didnt want a favour he would just have killed the wife while he was in jail, and him when he got out.

This movie could have got an 8 from me, but instead gets a weak 6 because of major plot holes and sometimes laughable acting. Its very easy to see that the director is fresh in his game.

Great first half, before suddenly turning south towards the end (minor spoilers)
athawolsux28 February 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I got to watch Brawl in Cell Block 99 after previously seeing Bone Tomahawk and Dragged Across Concrete. I am a big fan of both movies and was looking forward to seeing this one since it appears to be the best-reviewed of Zahler's three movies. Unfortunately, after an almost stellar first half, the movie suddenly delves into the nonsensical and loses most of its charm.

Craig Zahler has a tendency to write dialogue that is overly snappy and somewhat unnatural-sounding. Out of his trio of movies, I feel like this one is the worst offender. Despite this, Cell Block 99 has a great first half. The depiction of "the Fridge" is quite realistic as far as I can tell and succeeds in creating the dreary atmosphere of jail.

As soon as Bradley is transferred to Red Leaf, however, things suddenly change for the worse. Realism goes completely out the window. I find it very hard to believe that such a prison can actually exist, which hurts the believable dreariness that we had seen previously. What follows is a series of ludicrous action scenes. I believe that this turn was a deliberate decision, but it doesn't work. It feels like two different movies - one great, the other pretty bad.

Vince Vaughn is great as the straight talking tough guy forced into an impossible position
silverlight-9108316 October 2017
Vince Vaughn does a great job of portraying a no-nonsense tough guy who doesn't mince his words in this prison drama. I was surprised how much i enjoyed this movie. His character brings to mind characters similar to what Charles Bronson, Clint Eastwood and the like have played. There is a real intensity about this movie and his performance that is lacking in many action films these days. The supporting cast were good also but i thought Vince Vaughn totally carried this movie, which could have been way worse but for what he brought to it. Highly recommended for fans of old school movies of this genre.

vince is one tough guy

Warning: Spoilers
vince Vaughan gives the performance of his life in this prison revenge movie. i heard it was extremely violent, but it's movie violence and if you're expecting it, them it's not that bad. vince is basically a decent fella who gets caught up in drug trafficking, sent to prison and must commit a murder to pay back a debt. that's about it. don Johnson is a long way from Miami vice days. but not bad.

Did I watch a different film to everyone else?
Calgy6920 October 2017
I read the reviews, the constant applause and praise for this film. How good the fights were and the great acting. WHAT?! What film has everyone watched because what I see was a B movie (at best) with terrible acting, a story line that was predictable and the fight choreography has got to be the worst I've seen. Vaughn cannot do fight scenes, he is extremely awkward and very slow, and considering the film hints he has a history of fighting I would've believed that Mr Bean was a UFC fighter more!
