- TriviaThe role of the women at NASA is the subject of "Hidden Figures," a 2016 movie based on a book by the same name recounting the true story of the African-American mathematician Katherine Johnson and her two colleagues, Dorothy Vaughan and Mary Jackson, who, while working in the segregated West Area Computers division of Langley Research Center, helped NASA catch up in the Space Race.
- GoofsIn the middle of the live TV broadcast of Neil Armstrong stepping on the lunar surface and making his "That's one small step for man..." announcement, the image switches from a side view of the ladder, from the exterior of the Lunar Module, to an overhead view of Armstrong from the interior of the Module. The exterior camera was the only available live TV feed. The overhead view was shot using a film camera and the film, which was a much higher resolution than that of the TV camera, was not developed or shown until after Apollo 11 returned to Earth.
- Quotes
Wyatt Logan: All right, before I suffocate myself in polyester again, are we sure Flynn is headed to NASA?
Lucy Preston: Man landed on the moon today. NASA's the only thing going on in Houston. Believe me, it's the only thing going on the world.
Wyatt Logan: And Rufus, if Flynn's trying to screw the moon landing, how would he do it?
Rufus Carlin: [more to himself] He'd use Anthony. That's how he'd do it.
Wyatt Logan: Huh?
Rufus Carlin: Um... the problem is there's about a dozen ways to scuttle it from the ground.
Lucy Preston: So what do you think Flynn's gonna do? He's gonna knock over a radio tower, shoot the place up?
Rufus Carlin: Yes. No. I don't know.
Lucy Preston: What?
Wyatt Logan: [sarcastic] Great, going in blind. Love it.

Take the time to learn the hardware
In both scenes when they mount a magnetic tape on the drive it is on the wrong reel and backwards. Tapes of the day fed from the left to right, and the yellow plastic ring was to enable writing to it. It is shown quite prominently facing outward, not inward, on the right hand, not left hand, reel. They are also seen trying to load a paper tape, IBM machines of the day did not have paper tape readers, these were an peripheral device of teletype machines, used mostly by minicomputers. In the control room, when the so-called signal loss occurs, the screen is plastered with 'no signal', which only appeared on video projectors of a later era. During this so-called outage, the telemetry on the mission control consoles was alive and well.
