A nice Alison-centric episode that manages to take time for some levity without slowing the plot too much.
I knew within the first minute that this episode was going to focus primarily on Alison, and that made me a little bit nervous. I've always enjoyed her and Donnie's silly suburban drug-dealing adventures, but I also felt that putting an episode focused on it at this time, right when the final season is starting to pick up some steam, would have been a mistake. Luckily, this episode managed to balance the levity and character development with some good plot movement and one strong scene of tension near the end. It wasn't a nail-biting thrill ride like last episode, but it had me on the edge of my seat a few times.

And far from being just another episode of Alison and Donnie's wacky mishaps, it feels like the conclusion to that saga. It brings back almost all of the elements that have been in play in that story-line, and leaves them all in a place that feels complete. In fact, I feel like we may not see Alison at all until the last couple episodes. This episode really closed the book on her story, and developed her in some interesting ways. I'll miss her, but I also think that it's good to cut her out so early in order to maintain the momentum necessary to make this a complete and satisfying final season.

After the somewhat disappointing fourth season, I was hoping that the fifth would benefit from the knowledge that it is the last and be able to pull together a more cohesive, streamlined narrative. So far, this season has more or less lived up to that expectation. I look forward to the next instalment.

Alison's Heart
hellraiser728 June 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Warning do not read unless seen episode.

This is another Alison centric episode, I always like them because each is always something a bit different and to me kinda a breath of fresh air from the seriousness of the show or the focus mostly being on the other siestas most of the time. They kinda play out like slice of life episodes from "Steven Universe" if you've seen the show you know what I mean. There is the usual comedy but what makes this slightly different is that we actually see a more soulful side to Alison.

Alison we see is having a bit of a life crisis. From Rachel and her scum organization she runs pretty much having home court advantage over the Clone Club, the death of one of her siesta's MK which was sad, is affecting every ones lives in a big way. And we know that the peace NeoEvolution is false as we see Rachel is going to find every avenue possible to destroy them all.

There is this one moment which really made me feel bad for Alison when both Donnie and her are talking to one of the representatives whom looks like a damn cult leader which ironically is part of what the company is. And he has just this snobbish accent, where he is not just telling them where they all stand but is practically is just insulting both of them by looking down on them. I swear after what he said I just wanted to kick this guy in the balls which he probably has none of.

Alison I feel has a lot going for her, from her activities, love of her family; personally I've always felt Alison is a person that is trying and want to be more, which is something I emphasize with despite how much I do in life it never quite feels enough I always feel I can do or even have much more in my life; that to me is part of what makes a person human. Unlike that guy whom has nothing but his money and business which is a really shallow existence, same with Rachel whom practically almost has no life.

Though of course the comedy as usual is funny as hell. I don't want to give too much away so I'll say a couple of moments that stand out. One of them was of course seeing Alison jumping on the bouncy castle but of course the best one was seeing the flashback where Alison is doing shrunes and she's is tripping when meets Casima for the first time, we then see Alison hallucinating Casima's conversation and then flip to reality on what Casima is really saying; or even just seeing Alison trying to touch Casima which was comic silver.

There is a little moment with Kira which made me a little worried about her, and I feel is a bad sign. We see her take out a hidden razor and we can guess after what Rachel said to her about a certain rat what she's going to do. Just seeing that I can't help but get this Darth Sidious/Empiror Palpitine vibe toward Rachel, just like with Annikin Skywalker I feel like she's going to influence Kira to come to the dark side of the force.

Really liked the moment when we see Alison show some mettle when we see her do something for her siteras to save them as she confronts Rachel. Lets just say the very thing that would of been the hindrance for the clone club and Donnie and Alison turned out to be their ace in the hole (no pun intended). It really shows that Rachel didn't have all the cards after all and I really like that retort Alison gives to Rachel's threat; sort of Alison's way of saying "your no better".

Though she also showed her mettle on stage when she was helping Donnie whom was sick on stage and some community members were insulting both of them, I really loved what she said to them which is kinda part of my feelings on the suburban existence and mentality which is complete bull crap. Yeah, she's not perfect but at least she can admit it, while most community member do nothing but hide, I also think in a way you can say this episode is once again Christian themed as she is in church grounds and part of what Chirch is for telling the truth and to help yourself move forward.

The final minutes with Donnie I thought were beautiful. Even though it was a short span of time you see a sign of growth and change in Alison; you notice it from her voice which isn't the usual hyperactive uptight manner but is calm and she actually sounds a little more normal. And of course she decides she has to take a trip for a while to figure things out; which is understandable everyone of us have to do that at some points in our life to put things in perspective. The moment when Donnie plays a ukale and both sing a song together was sweet and a real sense of warmth, and a suttle hint of depth in their relationship as both just make great music together.

I'm going to miss Alison but I wouldn't fret I'm sure will see her for the last time same with Helina whom I felt was sorely M.I.A. in Season 4, we better since we're approaching the final innings so they better get their best players to bat while they can.

Alison you always had a heart, hopefully wherever you go you'll find what your looking for.

[8.5] The calm before the storm
cjonesas1 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
A feel of a complete episode with Allison in the center stage with many emotional moments that I liked very much. Hope her absence is short lived cause every sistra counts.

Kira going through some dark patches, evolving not to the right direction, mainly because of Rachel's ugly influence on her.

Helena writing a diary in Ukrainian, seemingly in peace with herself and the world. For the moment!

That was a sort of interim episode, a mildly soothing one, the calm before the storm.

This episode begins with Alison in the past, she has a dinner with Aynsley and Chad. We go back to present day: Sarah organized a memorial for MK. Kira returned back at Siobhan and Sarah. Donnie fell down during his performance. Alison has a meeting with Rachel, Alison has Leekie's head with her. Maddy found Leekie his body in the garage.
