"Love at First Sight" is an animated short film from the year 2017, so this one will have its fifth anniversary soon. This is of course closely connected to the very successful film Sing, which got me mostly curious about this one here because I thought Sing was a lot of fun. You don't get anybody singing in here though as you could guess because of the connection. The music is still nice without a doubt, especially at the end. But let's stay with the basics for now. Directors are Le Ster and Nealon and both are pretty experienced with the visual effects department, with the animation department and also with the art department, but in terms of being the ones in charge, it was new for them, but I think they did a decent job here and if they end up making a full feature film at some point as directors, then I would probably watch. Two writers as well, which is genuinely a lot for this really short movie. Travelstead is not new to writing, wasn't back then either, but has acted a lot more, also as voice actor. Cool name by the way Ted Travelstead. Andrew Walton is the other writer and this is still his only writing credit until now. He has worked a lot in the editorial department though on other projects.

Their film here only runs for slightly over four minutes and that also includes credits already. The consequence is that it does feel a bit rushed at times, especially when we have that jump from the protagonist's dating experience to her sad solitude. Right before the happy ending. I am also not sure if the main character here, a chameleon or iguana (like that word / these words), in any case a lizard, was part of the full fetaure film Sing, but if so, then only with a really small part. In any case, they get in the young gorilla early on to make the connection because she is his piano teacher. I liked the attention to detail there. Like how they include her animal-specific trait with her somewhat weird eye because those can look in two directions at once. In general, animal-specific behavior is a crucial part of this film. Just take the scene with the snake at the cinema. Annother funny moment for me was when the gorilla says it may take a while until somebody responds. And what happens? Boom! One message after the next, so many suitors for her right away. A funny little real-life reference on how women always have it easier on dating sites. So yes, this was a good watch here.

The ending was also fairly sweet as I stated earlier with the two and the moonbathing reference from early on. A bit of a huge coincidence, but it still works somehow. Animation gets easier away with stuff like that I suppose. Oh and the name of the dating website was another hilarious edition, just like the photo the gorilla took at first and the lady's face expression there. So overall, I enjoyed the watch. It's no greatness and also not as good as Sing itself, or at least not during the best parts of Sing, but it does not need to be in order to be a success. I suggest you watch. The only fairly negative criticism I have here is that they really should have made it twice as long, then it all would not feel this rushed, also the dates the lizard lady has. An alluteration to end my review, but not one as good as "Ted Travelstead". Man, that even rhymes. Pure genius! Bit of a pity this film is really difficult to find nowadays. It should be seen by many more.
