Funny, but a little canny
quike2319 August 2019
There were a lot of great moments in the movie, I love that Vasquez held onto a good amount of his humor as the years have wore on, I'm sure many things have changed for him as has the world & culture around him, so it inspires me to see the unique expression of all the bizarreness & absurdity in a time that has largely departed from this style of humor & show.

I enjoyed the movie & I would recommend it, it really punches you in the nostalgia bags & gives a lot of good laughs.

I only have a few small gripes about the movie, having been a huge fan of the original series.

The movie departs a bit from the vibes of the original series, for whatever reason. For one, the movie exhibited a lighter atmosphere, I understand that perhaps the production assumed that the audience has changed and was afraid to alienate their audience, but Invader Zim was great in large part because its irreverence, many great art pieces are great because they're bold & actually defy people's expectations. There was never a good comedian who only said what was socially acceptable, and that's why it brings me some sense of sorrow to see Zim made less intense, diminishing near the first point of contention, even Dib & his family having obscenely 'normal' moments. Gaz is not someone pretending not to care about her brother, being annoyed with him, & looking for ways to injure him, but in the movie she is, and Dib's dad doesn't really care that much about him, he's actually consumed by his passion for science to a fault, except in the movie.

The power & intensity of the individuals are diminished in the movie, the nature of their reality is toned down perhaps to tailor to more modern audiences, there is less darkness & ugliness, less witty, repulsive, absurd, nihilistic, subtle commentary, & more silly, apprehensive humor that pulls too many punches.

I would gladly watch a remake because I still love the humor when it hits right & the remnants of the original atmosphere they kept, but that doesn't change the fact that the movie could have been better if it was significantly more authentic & daring.

Nostalgia
alexklatt-2851817 August 2019
This is a very good movie. Its animation style is colourful, and very pleasing to the eye. All of the original cast are back, and in great form. The story isn't fantastic, but that doesn't really matter, because the script is so funny. The characters are funny, and they have funny lines. The animation is funny. I haven't laughed this much at an animated movie in a long time, because the jokes are far from the recycled, stale clichés that are common in cartoons. The comedic timing is great. I just wish it was longer. Highly recommended, and I will be rewatching it in the future for sure.

Just What to Expect from the Return of a Cult Icon
elicopperman18 August 2019
Invader Zim has to be one of Nickelodeon's biggest cult phenomenons of their entire existence. What was once a short lived series that barely even lasted two seasons ended up growing a massive cult following, mainly due to its bizarre tone, wacky albeit dark content and gritty visuals. So it's a no brainer that it would receive some kind of followup after its original run, which is where Enter the Florpus comes in. Handled by series creator Jhonen Vasquez and much of the original crew, this movie installment is made purely for the Zim enthusiasts who have waited so long for their favorite creepy alien to return.

The main storyline of the special details Zim realizing he was sent to Earth to be gotten rid of and thus loses confidence in himself. This seems like a big break for his human nemesis, Dib, or is it? Without nailing down the actual story beats, as that would give away a lot of spoilers, the general flow of the story itself is so unpredictable and scattered that you couldn't even list one specific plot twist. Zim has tried his hardest to conquer Earth only to fail miserably, be it at odds with Dib or genuine misfires, yet only now does he get the pure chance of a lifetime to take over the planet, and his plan is so brilliant it's actually unlike him. As for Dib, part of his goal to take down Zim is to prove to his father that he's not making any of it up, which is actually the most heartbreaking and emotional aspect of the movie. You end up rooting for Dib throughout his whole ordeal in addition to wondering what Zim has in store, making for two highly fascinating narratives.

From a technical side, the special's animation is very vibrant, expressive, and displays a great blend of 2D and 3D visuals, which is very tricky to make convincing. There again, the art style is super stylized and cartoony that it fits right in. As for the humor, while it can be pretty juvenile, it does offer some pretty hysterical one liners and slapstick wroth giggling at, especially with Zim and Dib's witty banter and Gir's lovable childish antics. Lastly, major props to the voice actors for their contributions. Richard Steven Horvitz always sounds like he's having the time of his life voicing Zim, Andy Berman practically invents Dib's paranoid demeanor, Rodger Bumpass hams up Professor Membrane to a wonderful degree, Melissa Fahn is delightfully creepy as Gaz, and Rosearik Rikki Simons is always a treat whenever he's doing Gir's exaggerated vocals. Given that the special is so crazy and hyper in terms of its tone and pacing, it only makes sense that the cast kicks the mood up to 11 with their ecstatic deliveries.

I think exaggerated is the best word to describe this special, and for an Invader Zim movie, you couldn't ask for more. Enter the Florpus not only continues the Invader Zim series faithfully with a suspenseful and crazy storyline, but it brings its visuals to whole new places and has the characters grow a bit more than what they used to be like. If you still adore the original show with all your heart, give this one a watch as soon as you can. Even if you've never seen the original, this is still worth a watch, if only for the insane surrealistic tone that you don't find in a lot of animated content nowadays.

Welcome back Invader Zim.
awfulketchup17 August 2019
While i didn't grow up with Invader Zim, i was introduced to it when i was a teenager but the show was so captivating and bizzare, and it's charm hooked me in.

Now fast forward to 2019, it is just incredible to see for the first time in so many years a return, Netflix saved this show from the deepest void and now we have Enter the Florpus.

It was everything i ever wanted from Invader Zim, and it feels like they have taken few notes from Rick and Morty with the expansion of the world and it's characters. Let's just hope that this gathers enough attention to create more movies or maybe a continuing series in the future?

Welcome back Invader Zim.

It's Amazing!

I loved.. loved this! Such a wonderful comeback from a show I used to love watching :) Professor Membrane was hilarious and awesome in this too. Not sure why they changed his hair a bit, but it was ok. All around it was funny and a good story. I liked this so much more than the Rocko reboot which was still pretty good.

Also, that intro! Loved the anime impression in the beginning.

Fans will love it...others will be confused and might possibly have their heads explode.
planktonrules17 August 2019
After an absence of about 15 years, "Invader Zim" is back as a special on Netflix. Interestingly, this Nickelodeon show returned to Netflix just a few days after another, "Rocko's Modern Life". Of the two, I prefered the Rocko special but they both are well worth seeing...particularly if you are a fan. As for Zim if you are NOT a fan or if you haven't seen it before, then this is something you might want to skip.

In the show, Zim has been missing for many years. During all this time, the obsessive Dib has been spying on Zim's house...waiting and hoping to see him again. Suddenly, Zim appears and Dib is pretty much powerless to do anything, as he's become a disgusting blob who hasn't slept nor showered nor left his computer chair since who knows when. But, after a montage, Dib is back to his old self and just in time to try to twart Zim's latest plan...one that involves fake dad, pudding and Mini-Moose.

I have watched all the "Invader Zim" cartoons, so this one did not make my head explode. However, this is a distinct possibility and the new show is incredibly weird...even compared to the old show. Fans of the series will adore it and shower it with 10s, non-fans will just be confused and I think a reasonable overall score is 7.

Enter the Comeback

And the Nostalgic Nickelodeon Netflix specials continue!

As a huge fan of The Invader Zim series, I was very satisfied with this story. It truly was everything and more I remembered Zim to be. Which is a bunch of smart random fun. It was also fun to introduce Zim to my nephew who is 7 of course his favorite is Grrr. He was quoting the show for days after which tugged at my heartstrings. The funniest thing that happened while I watched this was the realization I had. Now you can agree or disagree with this of course but I believe it true. I realized Invader Zim set the tone for today's cartoons. Teen Titans Go, Adventure Time, Amazing World of Gumball the list goes on and on all of these take from the original randomness of Zim. I recommend this piece of art to all and hope for more Nostalgic Nicktoons specials

A Breath of Fresh Air for an Old Friend
genereticjk17 August 2019
Into the Florpus captures everything that was great about Invader Zim and improves upon it. The animation style has been updated to appease a new generation, while still possessing its trademark look and feel to not alienate its core fan-base. Its random and grotesque humor is still found throughout its entirety, while staying tasteful and original as always. The movie is a visual masterpiece without straying far from its original designs, adding vibrant colors, action packed scenes, and all hand drawn animation. Unlike movies such as 'The Powerpuff Girls Movie' or the recent 'Hey Arnold:The Jungle Movie' it knows exactly what it wants to be from start to finish without any bloat or filler. It's a delight from start to finish and should attract any fan, old or new.

Invader Zim: Into the Florpus is a masterpiece.

Miss the old art style.
peacegirlever17 August 2019
I was so excited for this movie. Halfway through I found myself getting pretty bored. I much prefer the old art style. It was darker, grungy and dirty looking but now it's all polished looking, clean and brighter. I assume they are trying to appeal to the younger generation but this movie was supposed to be for us! The ones that grew up with the tv show. I'm really disappointed in how they changed Gaz. She was one of my favorite characters but in this movie she's so different

Perfect for more
kristinamclements22 August 2019
Very fun to watch and had everything I enjoyed about the TV show. It was like watching a longer episode than normal!

The only thing I was unhappy with was the art style. It was rounded and lighter than the show. The dark, jagged and distorted shapes in the original worked well with the ridiculousness that occurred in each episode.

Entertaining but missing that original Invader Zim flair
jkarzen30 August 2019
I was a huge fan of the original show back when it was on tv so needless to say I was excited when Enter the Florpus was announced, but I'm a bit disappointed. For starters the animation is much different than how the original show was, it's almost more cartoonish which is really unnecessary in my opinion. The second thing is the humor here is a bit different, the original show didn't overly rely on the in your face slapstick humor but this movie does. If you're a fan of the original show then you'll definitely enjoy the movie, but don't expect it to bring back what made the show so great.

Loved Zim but this is meh
veinctor20 August 2019
At 1 hour and 10 minutes, this is not a full length movie. It's like a long episode, of the original series but without any consistent plot. A lot of sequences are just nonsense and filler, something that Zim is known for. Here however happens a lot more because it's 3 times longer than a single episode, and it's annoying. I suppose Zim works only in small doses like the original tv format, because the story and humor cannot survive anything longer than 20 minutes of chaos.

The graphics and humor are as you remember it from the 2000s which is not bad, my only complains are with the stupid plot, which is what you should expect from Zim. Prolonged exposure to a single storyline however, is unbearable.

Enter The Florpus Is A Must See
aidenpomeroyin17 August 2019
Invader ZIM: Enter The Florpus stays true to the original series while still feeling fresh. The art is beautifully drawn and the jokes all landed really well. I've already watched it twice and will likely go back and watch it many more times. The team behind this did an amazing job with this movie.

A Spectacular Nostalgic Joyride
aidanratesmovies17 August 2019
Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus is everything a fan of the original show can ask for in a modern day film adaptation. Besides the obvious nostalgia, the film is full of wickedly funny gags and a ridiculous plot you won't want to take your eyeballs off of. The animation definitely seems less rough than before, and adds a different, although interesting, layer of character to watch throughout. The film may seem to run too long on certain gags, and some are so fast they hardly have a chance to laugh, but in total the film is aimed to make you laugh in as many ways as possible, and for the most part it succeeds. Is it perfect? No. Is it a good time? Hell yes. My Rating: 9.5/10

If it ain't broke...
hellchild-2173918 August 2019
The art style from the show has been greatly missed since the comics came out, and even more in this movie. If they do bring Zim back for another series, I hope they revert back to the original style. Aside from the art, I enjoyed the movie and found it as entertaining as the show. I especially love the voice cast reprising their roles, and the humor of the show being represented in the film. Jhonen Vasquez is a brilliant writer with a hilarious view of his fellow man (one that I can't disagree with). I'm also immensely grateful that unlike the creators of "Rocko's Modern Life," they stuck to their story and didn't change any characters.

Worth a watch, but only if you seen the original series first.
HungryforCheese30 August 2019
So Netflix brought back at Classic series, and even brought back my boy Richard Steven horvitz to voice Zim again. Sounds like the recipe for a perfect movie. Well... Before you watch this movie, I suggest watching the original show, there's like four episodes on YouTube you can watch for free, although you only need to see episode 1 and episode 20. Honestly, I think the movie would have been better if it was just 30 minutes long. Because I don't know for sure, it seems like that's what they wanted to do originally, but were forced to drag it out into a movie and didn't know how to do that. For its intended audience I think it's great,( 7 year olds) but for adults and teenagers, most of it is just a lot of loud noise. The original so I can enjoy fully, but this? I feel like I would like it more if I was younger. Much younger. Without being too specific, I thought there was too much for screaming, especially from Gir, there are some very specific Parts I thought were stupid. But I'd be lying if I said that this movie didn't make me laugh sometimes, I found the movie making me laugh most, when it wasn't trying too hard to be funny. But hey there still a lot of spectacle, action and humor to be enjoyable, this movie still comes recommended. Just watch the show first.

Best
alexander-1841417 August 2019
The animation didn't seem like it was being held on too and they let out the creativity. There was a bit of change in the colors but it was a good movie. Beside the Rocko film that seemed based on politics and a person's identification and not Rocko himself just about him complaining over a show. Which seemed so out of place for that movie. But in this movie invadr Zim they kept the same storyline which was actually good and explains the ending to the last season, and it also revealed some things that never turned up in the show even though their was some scenes that had them doing nothing. Over all it didn't ruin my expectations. I really recommend you to add it to your watch list.

Zim's Final Invasion Provides a Fun, but Underwhelming Experience.
The_Coffee_Frog30 August 2019
" Peace, peace, peace. Peace is nice, peace is better than chicken and rice!"- Gir (singing).

"Invader Zim: Enter the Floorplus" serves as the final episode of the great 2000s cult series "Invader Zim", notorious for its irreverent humour and its gory, twisted elements, that were and still are shocking for Nickelodeon. These are the elements that made "Invader Zim" work, and while I am not a huge fan of the series, I was excited to hear that a movie will be released to conclude the series and the fact that it would be on "Netflix" only furthered my excitement. However, when I watched the movie those elements that had made the series great, were as prevalent as I would have liked, leading to a sad shadow of a film.

"Enter the Floorplus" is a fine movie, however the film felt like it had no point: I'm not asking for it to be deeply profound or anything, but, come on, the "Rocko" special had a purpose and the original series had a purpose, so why doesn't the move? The satirical humour and the characters have morphed into over-exaggerated versions of themselves. There are some positives: the animation is nice, the scenes with the Tallest were great and Zim enacting his plan was enjoyable. I think maybe if you liked the series more than I do, these issues might not impact you as much.

Overall, an 6.5/10.

Zim is finally back
supercaleb6417 August 2019
13 years since Invader Zim went off the air the show is finally back in a 1 hour special on Netflix. While some of the humor was a bit off and I personally wanted to see Zim, Dib, Gir, and Gaz work together to defeat a greater evil like the Tak episode. This was a pretty great movie with some of the best animation I've ever seen. Definitely deserves an award for the animation near the end.

A fan's long awaited dream come true
kaegonyoung30 August 2019
If you liked the tv show than this movie is comparable to an hour long episode. Dark humor is better than ever and all of the characters you love are back. However if you were not a fan of the original show this won't do it for you. It's still watchable if you are not a fan, but if you were hoping for a dramatic change in tone its not for you.

Not the great. Would have been so much better as a mini series instead
dussaultjulien19 August 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Honestly, from the trailer, this movie looked like it was going to be amazing. It had the original voice cast, which is great to hear, and it definitely felt like an Invader Zim episode, but it ultimately failed and felt rather childish, and this is coming from someone who rewatches this series yearly, and more than once and this is not Invader Zim anymore.

While the animation seemed on par with the original series, it was animated like an early 2000's PBS show, like Martha Speaks, which means it's janky, CG looking, and not really impressive, and honestly horrible at some points.

The writing was some of the worst I've seen Vas put together. While the story is coherent for the first 20 minutes or so, it slowly starts to unwind and become, by the end, an agonisingly, astonishingly and weak far cry from the series I remembered watching. The writing, in the original series, was smart and funny, but none of that was present here. It's like Vas was writing for kids instead of for himself. It was terrible and so dissaponitng and by the end I was getting ready to just turn it off, but it ended, and on a flat, boring note to boot.

I don't want a reboot if this is what were going to get. It was not Invader Zim, it was an episode of Peppa Pig, Martha Speaks, and Arthur combined. It was for kids and not for Vas anymore. Man I'm bummed that this wasn't good and sad to see this amazing show reduced to this monstrosity.

Just because it has the original vocie cast, it doesn't mean it will be good. Would not watch again. I'm just going to watch the orignal series to help me remember when this show was actually good. Maybe Vas should too after this hot garbage fire, sad excuse of a film.

zorrodg-316-23833016 August 2019
Between the morbid humor, mind bending visuals and absurdist shenanigans, this long-awaited continuation should please die-hard and new Zim fans alike. The voice cast slides back into their roles like they'd never left, the story is a new classic for the show, and the creators find time to (gasp!) develop their wonderfully weird characters. A must see for new and old fans alike.

Bow to Zim!

Wow this movie was amazing

Invader Zim:Enter the Florpus Directed by Jhonen Vasquez, Young Kyun Park and Hong-Seung Yoon. Written by Jhonen Vasquez, Breehn Burns and Gary Wilson

Who would have thought that after 20 years Invader Zim has come back. The little insane cartoon that Nickelodeon barely let continue during its initial run. It was grotesque and wild and funny. The movie brings back the original creator and it continues in this vein and it is glorious.

Sometimes this resurge of nostalgia can be a good thing. I got back Joe Bob Briggs on a weekly basis with the Last Drive In and now Invader Zim got a movie and so did Rocko's Modern Life. The only issue I have with this resurgence of old shows coming back is us forcing our childhood on our kids. We are eventually going to run out of old shows.

But that's not the point. The point is to celebrate because Invader Zim:Enter the Florpus is magic. It is like it never went away. It is wildly grotesque. It is very funny. It made me laugh out loud several times. The animation is beautiful and gross and it fits in so much in its short runtime. The runtime might be short but it is the perfect length. This movie is also a good way to conclude the story. It is open ended enough while concluding the story lines from the show. Shows rarely get this kind of closure.

This is an excellent movie. I think if you were even mildly curious about Invader Zim. You should definitely check it out. If you're a fan of the show, it's imperative you see this now. It is worth checking out once to get the feel of the jokes and the insanity. It is worth checking out again to see all the background jokes you might have missed before. This was just delightful. I give this movie an A.
