MPAA Rated R for language and some sexual material

Sex & Nudity

  • An eighth grade class watches a video about puberty in class.
  • A young teenage girl puts an unopened banana in her mouth in a comedic scene.
  • A young teenage boy asks a girl (in a public setting) if she "knows sex". This is meant to be comedic.
  • Some non-graphic, non-sexual nudity at a pool party.

Violence & Gore

  • An American middle school holds a practice shooter drill. Quite brief and not violent.

  • 5 uses of "F" word. A couple of Hells, and a couple of "sh*t".

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • While this film does have an R-rating, it is meant for a young teenage audience (aka the 14 year olds that the movie focuses on) and only has an R-rating due to it's moderate use of strong language and very mild sex-related humour, which realistically reflects young teenagers in the 21st century.

The Parents Guide items below may give away important plot points.

Sex & Nudity

  • Two teenagers (a boy and a girl) play truth or dare in a car. It starts very innocent, but at one point, the boy dares the girl to take her shirt off. She refuses, and asks to stop the game, which the boy does. While this scene is dramatic in relation to the plot, it isn't graphic.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The truth or dare scene becomes dramatic towards the end, but amounts to nothing inappropriate.
