When the credits roll on Until Dawn this weekend, hundreds of people who contributed to Hollywood’s latest video game movie will be acknowledged for their work, from director David F. Sandberg all the way down to the assistants and the caterer. But two notable names will not be among them: Larry Fessenden and Graham Reznick, the duo who wrote the 2015 hit video game that launched the franchise.
While comic book writers and artists often complain about skimpy payments or lack of ample credit for the work that inspires movies, they generally are given a special thanks in the credits of those films. But as sources who spoke with The Hollywood Reporter note, that’s generally not true in the world of video game adaptations, where the company behind a game — not the game’s creators — are credited.

The video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s (read our review Here) quickly became Blumhouse Productions’ highest-grossing movie when it reached theatres and the Peacock streaming service back in October, surpassing the likes of Split, The Invisible Man, The Black Phone, M3GAN, the recent Halloween sequel trilogy, and the Paranormal Activity, Insidious, and The Purge franchises with its haul of $295 million. So, of course, there’s a sequel coming our way, aiming for a December 5, 2025 theatrical release – and here’s everything we know about Five Nights at Freddy’s 2!
Story
The video game takes place in Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza, a darker version of Chuck-e-Cheese, where an animatronic animal band performs kiddy songs by day, and goes on murderous rampages by night. The goal of the game is survive a night locked inside, knowing that a furry death machine might jump out of the dark at any moment. The first...

The most recent entry in the so-called Poohniverse, and the first one not to feature Pooh, Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare, has arrived. With Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey and its sequel both being steaming piles of, well, poo, I was going to skip this. But surprisingly, I started hearing quite a few positive things about it.
While most of the films that director Scott Chambers, aka Scott Jeffrey has been involved with are borderline unwatchable fare like Dragon Fury, he does have the occasional entertaining effort like The Gardener to his credit, so it wasn’t entirely beyond the realm of possibility that Peter Pan’s Neverland Nightmare would actually be decent. Hoping for the best, I decided to give it a chance.

Colleen Hoover is one of the most popular contemporary romance authors, rising to fame thanks to novels like Ugly Love, Confess, and Slam. However, Hoover's popularity skyrocketed in 2024 with the release of It Ends With Us, the adaptation of her bestselling 2016 novel.
Although It Ends With Us ended up being a widely controversial project because of the legal battle between director, producer, and star Justin Baldoni and lead actress Blake Lively, the movie was a box office hit. The film received mixed reviews from the critics, but the audience enjoyed it and grossed $349.7 million at the worldwide box office against a modest $25 million budget. More adaptations are on the way, and Deadline revealed that Universal's adaptation of Reminders of Him has just added Gilmore Girls star Lauren Graham to the cast.

Sinners keeps making Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan look like winners as the vampire thriller keeps racking up critical and commercial acclaim. The Warner Bros. blockbuster achieves another milestone as it's already one of the most successful horror films ever, less than a week after its theatrical debut.
Per Collider, Sinners is now among the top 100 highest-grossing horror films in history, thanks to the $55 million it's made domestically since its premiere on Apr. 18. Sinners stands in the 100th spot on the all-time list, passing Insidious and The Black Phone to get onto the list. The film has a chance of passing some notable horror films as it's expected to top the $100 million mark worldwide this weekend, including Saw, Escape Room and Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead remake.
Sinners is coming off a better-than-expected opening weekend at the box office, topping the charts during Easter above another Warner Bros.

Having exceeded expectations in its domestic box office debut, director Ryan Coogler's Sinners is breaking new ground mere days into its theatrical run. The genre-bending vampire film has passed the $50 million mark domestically, and in just five days of release, has become one of the 100 highest-grossing horror films in domestic box office history. Sinners achieved this milestone on Monday, after grossing a handsome $7 million and pushing its running domestic total to $55 million. The movie got things going with a $48 million haul in its first weekend, exceeding expectations on the back of tremendous reviews and audience reception.
Its $55 million haul makes it the 100th highest-grossing horror film in domestic box office history. Some of the movies immediately ahead of it are the original Saw, Escape Room, and Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead remake. Sinners passed hits such as Insidious, Final Destination, and The Black Phone as it made its way towards the top 100 list.

With a $48 million domestic opening weekend, Warner Bros.’ “Sinners” has set a new mark for the best box office launch for an original film since the pandemic. But that figure only scratches the surface of how historic the critical and audience acclaim has been for Ryan Coogler’s genre-blending horror tale, and why the R-rated film’s theatrical outlook is looking so bright.
On Rotten Tomatoes, “Sinners” — which takes place in 1930s Mississippi and follows a pair of gangster twins (Michael B. Jordan) who open a juke joint, only to have its grand opening crashed by vampires — has earned a fantastic 98% critics and 97% audience score, the highest Rt scores for a studio wide release since Universal/DreamWorks’ “The Wild Robot” last September. “Sinners” also earned an A on CinemaScore, marking the first time in 39 years that a horror film has earned a grade that high from the audience poll that...

Ryan Coogler Horror Success(Photo Credit –YouTube)
Sinners has flipped the script entirely in a genre notorious for dividing critics and audience. Horror movies rarely break into the upper echelons of audience polls, but Ryan Coogler’s latest offering just smashed expectations and rewrote the rules.
It’s now his highest-rated film ever, and the first R-rated horror flick to snag an elusive A grade on CinemaScore, a territory usually reserved for feel-good blockbusters or prestige dramas. It’s a brutal contrast to titles like The Exorcism, which nosedived with a D despite a major star like Russell Crowe.
Critics Are on Board and Loud About It
Critics have rallied behind Sinners just as enthusiastically. Rotten Tomatoes now gleams with a 98% critic approval score, crowning the film “certified fresh” and lifting it above everything else in Coogler’s already impressive filmography.

It's extremely rare for a horror movie to earn the sort of reviews that director Ryan Coogler's Sinners has. But the film has defied the trends to emerge not only as Coogler's top-rated movie, but also the first R-rated horror movie to earn an A grade on CinemaScore. The polling platform tabulates how likely an audience member is to recommend a given movie to others, and usually, horror movies fare terribly. For instance, The Exorcism, starring Russell Crowe, earned a disastrous D grade according to CinemaScore.
Sinners' A grade echoes critical sentiment. The movie is now "certified fresh" on the aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, on the strength of a 98% critics' approval rating. This makes it the best-rated film of Coogler's acclaimed career, which also includes the indie hit Fruitvale Station, the Rocky reboot Creed, and two big-budget Marvel movies – Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Sinners reunites the filmmaker with Michael B. Jordan,...

We have new updates on the upcoming The Black Phone sequel!
The upcoming Blumhouse horror film will see the returns of several characters, as well as additions of new ones.

While a franchise title still leads the box office with Warner Bros./Legendary’s “A Minecraft Movie” continuing its excellent run, a quartet of new releases is filling out the rest of the top 5, and none of them are sequels.
“Minecraft” is proving that it is not a frontloaded title at all with an $80.6 million second weekend, a total that was considered to be an optimistic outcome for its opening weekend in initial pre-release projections. But with millions of younger moviegoers excited to see the film thanks to memes and viral videos taken in theaters, it is proving to be the spring hit that theaters were starving for in March.

Though there have been countless Dracula movies in the past, as well as a ton of films that deal with Van Helsing, there's been nothing quite like director Natasha Kermani's Abraham's Boys, which has just been picked up for release by Rlje Films and Shudder. This month, Peacock has already dropped several horror titles on its platform, including The Exorcist, Exorcist: The Beginning, Last Night in Soho, The Vatican Tapes and Pulse. Now, the streamer is set to add yet another chilling addition to its platform. A horror film that hit theaters earlier this year! It's the Blumhouse werewolf horror movie Wolf Man. It will reportedly make its way to Peacock on Friday, April 18, 2025.
Wolf Man was actually Blumhouse's first horror flick of the year. Since then, we've seen one other horror movie from the company be released in 2025, which was The Woman in the Yard. The werewolf horror comes from Leigh Whannell, who not only directed the film but also co-wrote the script with his wife Corbett Tuck. Whannell is best known for co-creating the Saw franchise with his friend James Wan. Some of his previous works that you might've watched are the horror movies Saw,...

Universal Pictures owns the rights to some of the most iconic villains, which the studio named the "Universal Monsters." However, it has yet to find its rhythm with the recent adaptations.
Universal was planning to launch the Dark Universe, which was set to debut with 2017's The Mummy, and create an McU-like joint universe that would feature characters like Wolf Man, Dracula, The Invisible Man, and more. However, following the release of The Mummy and its poor reception, Universal canceled the universe. Leigh Whannell later revived the plans following the success of his 2020's The Invisible Man, and returned to the universe with 2025's Wolf Man. Following a disappointing box office run, Wolf Man will be heading on streaming on Apr. 18 on Peacock.

Director Leigh Whannell’s Wolf Man shakes up the werewolf mythos with a new take on the Universal Classic Monster, and it’s heading to Peacock this month.
From Blumhouse and Universal Pictures, Wolf Man begins streaming exclusively on Peacock beginning April 18.
Christopher Abbott (Poor Things) stars as Blake, a husband and father who inherits his remote childhood home in rural Oregon after his own father vanishes. With his marriage to wife Charlotte (Julia Garner) fraying, Blake persuades Charlotte to take a break from the city and visit the property with their young daughter, Ginger (Matlida Firth). But as the family approaches the farmhouse in the dead of night, they’re attacked by an unseen animal and, in a desperate escape, barricade themselves inside the home as the creature prowls the perimeter.
Of course, there’s also the matter of Blake, who begins a harrowing transformation. Whannell’s reimagining of...

Peacock announced on Friday that Wolf Man, its modern take on the classic monster story starring Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner, will begin streaming exclusively on the service on April 18.
There, the film joins The Invisible Man — from Wolf Man helmer Leigh Whannell — as well as the recent Halloween films and such other popular horror titles as The Black Phone and Five Nights at Freddy’s.
Hailing from Blumhouse and Universal Pictures, Wolf Man follows Blake (Abbott), who while seeking a fresh start, moves his wife Charlotte (Garner) and daughter Ginger (Matilda Firth) to his childhood home in rural Oregon. Upon arrival, they encounter a brutal animal attack, forcing the family to barricade themselves inside the house as an unseen creature prowls the perimeter. As the night wears on, Blake’s injuries worsen, and his bizarre behavior turns monstrous. To protect her daughter, Charlotte must decide whether to confront the danger...

Blumhouse is bringing some highly anticipated horror sequels our way this year. The first of the bunch is M3GAN 2.0, which is set to reach theatres on June 27th. The Black Phone 2 follows on October 17th, then Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 will help wrap up 2025 with its December 5th release. The Universal panel was held at the CinemaCon event today, and during the panel, Blumhouse was given the chance to promote all three of these upcoming sequels.

Following an exceedingly positive reception for its live-action How To Train Your Dragon remake at CinemaCon, Universal Pictures brought out the main cast during its afternoon presentation to officially announce a sequel: How To Train Your Dragon 2.
The sequel will hit theaters June 11, 2027 - with director/writer Dean DeBlois and young stars Mason Thames ("Hiccup") and Nice Parker ("Astrid") all set to return.
The now-confirmed follow-up will adapt the animated sequel of the same name, which was met with widespread critical acclaim upon its release in 2014, and ultimately grossed over $621.5 million globally.
Before we get to that one, the first live-action adaptation opens in theaters June 13, and critics have been absolutely buzzing ever since its worldwide premiere at CinemaCon, so hopes are extremely high for the film's prospects this Summer.

Scott Derrickson’s The Black Phone ended on a pretty definitive note, with the evil being vanquished and Ethan Hawke’s “Grabber” being killed by our hero. How do you make a sequel to a movie where the villain is very much dead? When did that ever stop the horror genre?!
The first footage from Black Phone 2 was shown off by Universal & Blumhouse at CinemaCon last night, and while the footage won’t be making its way online – sorry, that’s just how it goes with CinemaCon – we do have footage descriptions from various reporters and outlets that all make the same observation – the Grabber is going full Krueger here in 2025.
What does that mean? Well, according to the footage recaps from Discussing Film and Screen Rant, Black Phone 2 will see the Grabber stalking kids from beyond the grave.

We're still six months away from the release of Scott Derrickson's Black Phone 2, but for those wondering how Ethan Hawke's The Grabber will fit into things, the wait is finally over. Fans will recall that the villainous child killer met his demise at the hands of Finney (Mason Thames) at the end of the first movie, so when the horror sequel was announced, it left many to question which direction the franchise would take. It appears as if it's taking at least some of its cues from another iconic series: A Nightmare on Elm Street.
Though the first footage for Black Phone 2 was shown behind closed doors and has yet to make its way online, Discussing Film was on hand at CinemaCon to provide fans with a description, noting that it began with a haunting rendition of Alice in Chains' "The Rooster." Finney is now living a gloomy existence,...

Universal Pictures dialed up new details on The Black Phone 2 from the CinemaCon stage in Las Vegas.
While filmmaker Scott Derrickson couldn’t make it to Sin City as he’s still in production, Blumhouse CEO Jason Blum had the honors (he even wore a Grabber mask for the occasion) and was joined by one of the franchise’s stars Madeleine McGraw. Together, they talked about the horror sequel before revealing a brand new trailer for the Colosseum crowd.
The first film became a surprise hit after its 2022 release when it grossed $161 million against an $18 million budget. It followed the events of what happens when a young boy is abducted and locked in a basement. While there, he starts receiving calls on a disconnected phone from the previous victims of a serial killer called the Grabber, played by Ethan Hawke. Derrickson wrote the script with longtime writing partner C. Robert Cargill...

A lot of the conversation at CinemaCon 2025 has been about trying to find the elusive answer to the question of how to get audiences back in theaters for films that aren’t franchises and horror…the sort of offerings that made up the vast majority of Universal’s CinemaCon presentation on Wednesday afternoon.
The presentation, which kicked off with an elegant, 50-piece live orchestra playing iconic Universal film scores and showcased everything from “Wicked: For Good” to “Jurassic World: Rebirth,” was a notable departure from Warner Bros.’ focus on risky original titles and Lionsgate’s attempts to strike a balance on expanding their franchises and offering some low budget originality. Universal’s message was about stability, offering titles that audiences know and which will likely provide reliable box office while the industry as a whole tries to figure out how to effectively bring variety back to the big screen in...

The terror returns as Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is unleashed at CinemaCon. As he promised earlier, Jason Blum delivered the first teaser for the upcoming sequel.

Jason Blum’s house runneth over at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. Horror label Blumhouse brought four new films to tantalize global theater owners on Tuesday, which will roll out steadily through 2025.
The titles feature homicidal robot girls, murderous animatronic mascots, a jacked and terrifying (and undead?) Ethan Hawke and a sentient sex doll. It’s what we love and expect from the producer of “Whiplash” and “BlacKkKlansman.”
This is the first time Blumhouse has presented to exhibitors since merging with horror company Atomic Monster, founded by “The Conjuring” and “Insidious” mastermind James Wan.
Here’s a rundown of the Blumhouse wares:

Blum himself kicked off his section of the Universal presentation dressed as the titular animatronic bear, Freddy. He pumped up the crowd of exhibitors by revealing that “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2” will debut exclusively in theaters in December.

Jason Blum hit the CinemaCon stage Wednesday in a “Five Nights at Freddy’s” costume to discuss the three sequels on the Blumhouse slate and introduce clips from each — including “The Black Phone 2.”
“October is my favorite month of the year,” Blum said. Actress Madeleine McGraw joined Blum on stage to introduce the first trailer to “The Black Phone 2.”
The trailer opens with a ringing black phone somewhere in a cold weather area. Pictures of three boys are seen. The Grabber’s lair from the first film is then revealed. “You of all people know that the dead is just a word,” the Grabber says. An older Mason Thames appears in a phone booth and the Grabber is revealed behind him.
The sequel is apparently “the launch of a sinister new franchise.”

When How to Train Your Dragon director Dean DeBlois and stars Gerard Butler and Nico Parker took the stage on Wednesday morning at CinemaCon to debut the first-ever screening of the live-action remake, their microphones didn’t work. It was an inauspicious start for the trio, who gamely picked up their prewritten banter about the project and urged the room full of theater owners to consider playing the live-action remake on their biggest screens possible when it hits theaters nationwide on June 13. It was also the only bug of the event: How to Train Your Dragon left CinemaCon attendees thrilled, with multiple breaks for applause and reports of some viewers overcome with emotion during the movie’s climax.

About four years ago, we heard that Tea Shop Productions, the company behind 47 Meters Down, had hired Imitation Girl and Lucky director Natasha Kermani to write and direct a feature adaptation of Joe Hill‘s short story Abraham’s Boys. Now, we finally have an update on the project, as Variety reports that Rlje Films and the Shudder streaming service have acquired the worldwide distribution rights to the film.
The Abraham in question here is vampire hunter Abraham Van Helsing as Hill’s action-horror story is described as a “follow-up of sorts” to Bram Stoker’s Dracula. The story tests the relationships Stoker formed in his original novel. The plot follows Max and Rudy Van Helsing, who know nothing of their father Abraham’s past and cannot understand his overprotective attitude and strange behavior. Disney’s “Snow White” is sinking fast at the box office, so much so that Amazon MGM’s “A Working Man” has taken No. 1 from it this weekend with a $15.2 million opening from 3,262 theaters compared to a $14.2 million second weekend for the Rachel Zegler-starring remake.
Heading into the weekend, “Snow White” was projected for a second weekend of $16-18 million, with some optimistic projections topping out at $20 million. “A Working Man” was projected for $10-12 million.
Instead, “A Working Man” has nearly matched the $16 million opening of star Jason Statham’s last film, “The Beekeeper” in January 2024. As expected, the film skewed 60% male and, while getting mixed critical reviews, has earned mostly positive reception from audiences with a B on CinemaScore and an 84% overall positive rating on PostTrak.
The film will now try to match the $66.2 million domestic/$162.6 million global total of “The Beekeeper” against its reported $40 million budget produced by Black Bear.

The duo behind Sinister, Doctor Strange and The Black Phone, Scott Derrickson and his frequent partner C. Robert Cargill, are keeping busy in horror. THR reports that Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems has enlisted the pair to adapt Road of Bones, a horror novel by best-selling author Christopher Golden.
Cargill will pen the script and Derrickson will direct, with both producing via their Crooked Highway production banner.
Christopher Golden’s page-turning 2022 horror novel introduces an intense road trip set in Siberia. It follows an American documentarian, Felix “Teig” Teigland, who drives Siberia’s dangerous Kolyma Highway, collecting legends and ghost stories along the way for a planned new series. Teig and his team don’t realize until too late that they’ve embarked on a harrowing journey where supernatural threats are as likely to kill them as the unforgiving terrain.

Director Scott Derrickson is returning to horror for his next project. The filmmaker behind movies such as Marvel's "Doctor Strange" and the Apple TV+ original "The Gorge" is working once again with his creative partner C. Robert Cargill on an adaptation of the 2022 novel "Road of Bones," according to The Hollywood Reporter. The project has been set up at Sony Pictures' Screen Gems, where Derrickson and Cargill's production company Crooked Highway has a first-look deal.
Derrickson is set to direct the film. He will also co-write the screenplay alongside Cargill, whom he's worked closely with ever since 2012's breakout hit "Sinister." The duo will also produce the movie, which is based on Christopher Golden's novel, which was published by St. Martin's Press. There's no word yet on who will star in the adaptation, or how soon production will get underway.

The sinister team of Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill are tackling an adaptation of Road of Bones, a horror novel by best-selling author Christopher Golden, for Sony Pictures’ Screen Gems label.
The duo, known for their horror scares thanks to movies such as Sinister, Doctor Strange and The Black Phone, will write the screenplay with Derrickson set to direct. The two will also produce via their Crooked Highway production banner.
The project marks the first venture to skulk up from Crooked Highway’s first-look deal with Screen Gems/Sony.
Bones is a supernatural thriller set in Siberia along the Kolyma Highway, a real highway that was built in Stalinist Soviet Union using the labor of prisoners from the region’s gulags. Lore has it that hundreds of thousands of inmates perished during the construction of the 2000 km road and due to the permafrost, it was judged easier to just built atop of the bodies.

As we first reported on Toonado.com, Universal Pictures has released six new character posters for the live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie. While the movie's leads are featured, the spotlight is put squarely on the remake's main dragons.
Those are the Night Fury, Deadly Nadder, Monstrous Nightmare, Hideous Zippleback, Gruesome Gronckle, and Terrible Terror.
The approach to bringing these beloved fantasy creatures to life is certainly unique; while they're photorealistic, they've also kept the same cartoonish designs we first saw on screen a decade and a half ago. Had they all been given the House of the Dragon treatment, it just wouldn't have felt right (particularly in the case of Toothless).
We've heard a lot about How to Train Your Dragon essentially being a shot-for-shot remake of the DreamWorks Animation movie released in 2010. Talking about that earlier this year, Dean DeBlois - who directed both versions - addressed the complaints head-on.
