Mortuary: The Sounds of John Cacavas (2012)
*** (out of 4)
This fifteen-minute interview with John Cacavas was filmed a couple years before his death and can be found on the DVD and Blu-ray release of the 1983 film MORTUARY. If you bought the disc for this interview so that you could hear the composer talk about that film then you're going to be disappointed because he admits that he doesn't remember the music for it. Instead of discussing that film interviewer Nathaniel Thompson gets him into other topics meaning we get to hear stories about some of his other scores including the AIRPORT sequels, THEY'RE PLAYING WITH FIRE, HORROR EXPRESS, THE SATANIC RITES OF Dracula and of course the Kojak series. For the most part this here is a fun interview as Thompson keeps it moving along with some nice questions. None of the answers are overly deep but it was still fun getting to hear what thoughts and memories he did have of his work and his hopes that they would become available for people to buy.
