26th Screen Actors Guild Awards Highlight The Oscar Frontrunners

Seconds ago, the 26th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards came to an end. SAG voters had the option to confirm the frontrunners or upend the race. Unsurprisingly, they went almost entirely with the former, though an argument can be made that they did something pretty interesting with the latter. While four of the major Oscar categories are now essentially sewn up, the big Academy Award category of Best Picture just got some added chaos. SAG went with the four frontrunners in the Acting categories, giving Joaquin Phoenix, Renee Zellweger, Brad Pitt, and Laura Dern wins. Phoenix (Best Actor for Joker), Zellweger (Best Actress for Judy), Pitt (Best Supporting Actor for Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood), and Dern (Best Supporting Actress for Marriage Story) are now all but assured of Oscars. Then, Best Ensemble went to Parasite, furthering its credentials as a real threat in Best Picture at the Academy Awards.

‘Parasite’ Is the First Foreign-Language Film to Win Best Cast SAG Award

‘Parasite’ Is the First Foreign-Language Film to Win Best Cast SAG Award
Bong Joon Ho’s South Korean class thriller “Parasite” made Screen Actors Guild Award history Sunday when it won the prize for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture. It’s the first foreign-language film ever to take home that award.

Parasite” bested fellow Oscar Best Picture nominees “The Irishman,” “Jojo Rabbit,” and “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” at the SAG Awards, plus a fifth nominee, “Bombshell,” which is not up for the top Academy Award.

SAG winners often tend to do well at the Oscars, though last year the overlap didn’t happen as much as usual. Regina King, who won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for “If Beale Street Could Talk,” wasn’t even in the running for a SAG Award. Emily Blunt, who won for her role in “A Quiet Place,” wasn’t nominated for the Oscar.

But Rami Malek went on to win

Later this evening, the Screen Actors Guild will chime in with their annual SAG Awards ceremony. This will mark one more pivotal point in the season, as Academy Award voters will shortly be making their final decisions. Amazing Stories Apple TV+ Reboot Gets Release Date, First Look

Alec Bojalad Jan 19, 2020

Apple TV+ is bringing a rebooted version of anthology series Amazing Stories to its stream with Steven Spielberg returning as producer.

Apple TV+ heard you were in the market for some amazing stories and as fate would have it, so are they.

Apple's new streaming service has ordered anthology series Amazing Stories, a revival of the 1985 NBC series of the same name. Steven Spielberg will return to executive produce the series through Amblin Entertainment just like he did with the original version.

The original Amazing Stories was little-watched but greatly admired. It ran on NBC from 1985 through 1987, wracking up 12 Emmy nominations and a few wins in the process. The series told...well, amazing stories, mostly in the sci-fi genre. It featured plenty of talent onscreen and even more in the directors' chair with Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Irvin Kershner, and more all helming episodes.

In the new CBS All Access series premiering January 23rd, Sir Patrick Stewart reprises his Star Trek: The Next Generation role as Jean-Luc Picard, now a Starfleet retiree running the family vineyard in France.
