A good watch one time only
TopherCJ23 September 2018
Some movies are so well put together that you watch them over and over again. That's not the case for me with this one.

I did actually enjoy it, it definitely had similarities with Unfriended but taking a more demon/witchcraft aspect rather than just an angry ghost with unfinished business...

I just can't imagine myself ever having the urge to watch it again.

If you're bored one evening and stuck for a movie to watch, give this one a go, it's entertaining and deserves a view, even if it's just the once!

Ok for one viewing.
MikeHunt107517 September 2018
This is basically a rival studios watered down version of Unfriended. A group of friends communicating via webcams unleash a demon that quickly learns it can possess people through the camera lense.

It's far from horror, not exactly thrilling but it's by far from boring and does manage to entertain. However a few wtf questions arise leaving it a far from perfect script, but it's ok for 1 nights viewing. It has no replay value once you've seen it, but it's not a complete waste of time if it sounds like a plot you would enjoy or are looking for films similar to Unfriended.

Not great
thedarkestshadow-3278514 August 2023
This is entertaining but pretty bad. The acting is pretty laughable. I'd also like to know what year this takes place and what kind of garbage webcams and internet connections these people are using. Every other second the image has errors or buffers. Several times I thought it was my device. It's really aggravating and distracting several times.

There were a few scenes that are hilarious in a so bad it's good kind of way.

Also, ignore the idiot claiming racism. Lots of people die and are killed by lots of different people. But of course hateful race baiters are gonna try to spread their hate and misinformation.

Unfriended Knockoff
elinkate23 October 2018
Well. it sounded good. the premise is great - however this falls way flat on its face. it's like a middle aged unfriended rip. the characters are all mid 30s and it's nowhere near jumpy or any way a decent "horror" film. just don't bother it's just. ???? i have no words.

it's terrible.

Manipulation of the devil
TheLittleSongbird31 October 2018
There was quite a lot that made me want to watch 'E-Demon'. It had a cool poster/cover, a somewhat intriguing if very derivative premise and as someone with a general appreciation for the genre it fits under. That it was low-budget, which from frequent personal experience is rarely a good sign due to that there are so many poor ones out there (though there are decent to good ones as well), made me though apprehensive.

'E-Demon' is unfortunately on the other hand yet another film seen recently, hence some reiteration because the exact same strengths and flaws present in those films are here, that did absolutely nothing for me. 'E-Demon' is really terrible, with so many huge flaws, any potential that it had completely disappears in translation. There is nothing good here in 'E-Demon' apart from the eerie-looking setting that is wasted by the rest of the production values, just amateurish in all aspects.

Going further on to the negatives, the story does feel over-stretched and some of it comes over as vague and under-explained in the last third where the film especially became duller, more predictable, more senseless and less unsettled and never gaining momentum. All the characters are too sketchy and with cardboard thin and colourless personalities and with nowhere near enough to make one want to endear to them, all of them coming over as incredibly irritating to the extent you don't want them alive. Their annoying and illogical decision making and behaviours frustrates. The chemistry is bland and unfocused.

The sound quality is obvious and utilised cheaply (being too loud in the build ups and people's reactions), the effects are laughable and all of the acting is lacking severely on the whole, that's actually an understatement as the worst of it is horrendous. There is no sense of horror or engagement with the awful predicament they're in, and no connecting with the character, it just reeks of indifference which makes the viewer not care less too.

Dialogue can be stilted and rambling while the pace and film drags on forever, apparent from the very start, never recovering that interest is lost fast. The ending has no build-up and just ends ridiculously. Found too many of the supposedly shocking moments not surprising or scary and the atmosphere dreary, due to the excessive obviousness, a lot of dumb and vague moments and explanations and the lack of tension and suspense. Thrills are none, thanks to stodginess and excessive over-familiarity, and found myself never invested in the drama, which tended to be indifferently acted, interminably paced and statically directed.

A lot of 'E-Demon' has really dull and going nowhere plot elements and often nonsensical and confusing character motivations, while too many of the things to make you shocked are far from creative or unsettling. It all feels rather tame while the threat completely lacks menace and looks terrible.

Nothing freaky or interesting with some shoddy effects, no development and too derivative, while everything is unimaginative and are more odd than scary, completely failing to show any sense of dread. There is nothing interesting or illuminating with what the film was trying to do and the drama is overwrought with no momentum and a lot of weirdness. The direction is leaden, got the sense their heart was not in it, and the music is ill-fitting. 'E-Demon' is very amateurish visually, too drearily lit and shows no care in the way it's shot, severely compromising any coherence. The editing is all over the place.

Altogether, irredeemably (apart from the setting, which was wasted so is not really a merit) terrible. 1/10 Bethany Cox

Wow... Unfriended I owe you an apology... well no... but
chrissanna22 October 2018
Don't even bother with this one. Despite being barely 90 minutes it feels like its 3 hours long; the script is mess; there are no likeable characters; it is very lazily put together; it doesn't have a single original idea; the acting is dreadful. None of these people should get another acting job in their life.

Unfortunately it's not even unintentionally funny.

Headphones with cameras, mics and 4G... that makes sense... that's practical... if you want to shoot the film with multiple angles why not just make a conventional movie? Instead of opting for this "desktop-view" bs ... or just blend the two together... even better... don't make it.

I don't even have the strength to properly review it. Stay far away from this one.

An interesting way to show a film
BandSAboutMovies20 September 2018
Warning: Spoilers
As college friends try to hold onto the good old days by staying in touch via the internet, their evening of stories, pranks, drinking and making fun of one another is interrupted by a demon that has been trapped for centuries in Salem, Massachusetts. Seeing as how that demon is on a mission to bring the devil to our reality and how it can also possess multiple people at once, this will be a night that tests their friendship and changes the world forever.

Kendra, AJ, Mar and Dwayne spent time together at THE Ohio State but adulthood is making them grow apart. The only way for them to reconnect is through an all-night video chat. e-Demon captures that night -- as well as multiple text messages, Wikipedia pages, message board posts and so much more -- ala the films Searching and Unfriended.

The weirdness starts when Gamma introduces his grandmother, who warns of a horrible danger in the trunk that's in the attic of their family home. The gang has been pranking each other all night with bloody stunts that look real, so when the demon comes to life, it just seems like one more goof. But nope -- it's real and ready to destroy them all.

if you're looking for a straight-ahead narrative, this isn't it. Instead, the film is near hyperactive, jumping from screen to screen. But it's an interesting narrative technique. I wouldn't want to see every movie in this way, but it works here. The cast are all relative newcomers, but they handle themselves well, basically all acting toward the camera for long uninterrupted takes, reacting to things on their laptops instead of other living people. Actually, the cast being unrecognizable faces really helps tell the story, which slowly grows in intensity.

At first, I was kind of put off by this gimmick, but by the end of the film, particularly with the way it treats the ending, I was hooked.

This is writer/director/producer Jeremy Wechter's first full-length project. I'll definitely be seeking out whatever he works on next.

I'd watch again
kendrakbox10 October 2018
Totally enjoyed the anticipation leading up to the killings. How each victim is picked off while the others watch in horror as they envision their impending deaths. Would have loved to star in this film. I'd definitely watch more films from this director.

Bit better than first Unfriended
nooriintikhab15 September 2018
Similar ideas is where the plot stems from. One reviewer is probably associated with productions while the other is biased against for some reason. Decent film compared to today's horrors. Better than unfriended for sure, room for a sequel that I would watch, but will probably forgot about this film in a day or too. So if you have time in your hand and want to watch an average horror film, I think this is a okay film compared to the crap that comes out nowadays.

Terribly Fun to Watch
timothygartin16 June 2022
I don't really disagree with the other reviews about this movie, but I thought it was a lot of fun to watch. The characters are so bad, especially the background possessed people. However, they are hilarious. When one of the character's little children begin attacking him, this movie went from a three star to a six star romp.

There are a lot worse movies to waste your time watching in the social media horror genre.

An exotic and risk-taking cyber-film! :)
kraftwerk42328 September 2018
I thought this movie was really, really good...it definitely pushes not only the "computer-screen genre" in a lot of cool new directions, but also the possession-horror genre! For one, I haven't seen too many horror films that dare to suggest that possession isn't a "perfectly-nice human being becomes a totally-unlike-him-or-her devil, and then snaps out of it by the end of the film" kinda thing...but that it's actually just people forced to give into their savage, willfully-ignorant, submissive natures a *lot* more than they would if they weren't possessed. The film also plays with tone and suspense very well; at some point, it diverts from a millenial-Michael-Haneke vibe to a gothic-anarchy sort of vibe, with some jazzy tonal diversions here and there (which could very well be likened to blaxploitation, flicks considering one of the main characters is black)...but, it never goes too far off the rails of what the film actually is in the end, which is a bleak, socially-damning tragedy with lots of horror in the mix. The film is also very skillfully made, specifically in the way it cuts between the myriad of computer screens, in a way that is both dramatically-satisfying and unexpected in forcing you to decide what you want to look at sometimes, and then forcing you to look at something you didn't expect to looking at other times (but never all-out indulging in the gore or the potential-campiness as some lesser films would have done). The VFX are also pretty classy and well-done, especially all the lights going out everywhere in the final act, and the acting from all involved was pretty great, too! 🙂 Highly-recommended!

Honestly not terrible!!!
amymay-6991624 July 2023
Ok,if you look,i one star A LOT, so to get SIX stars is like being kissed by a pixie and a leprachaun under a full blue moon. Were there MASSIVE plot holes? (Decrying cameras ON CAMERA,and recruiting the camera resistance on the INTERNET (camera city) for one......the whole "AJ's extra people" subplot, for another ) but ultimately i actually enjoyed this movie. One reviewer cited a scene and called it racist, but it was more "begging for a child's life" (from a non white character threat) than " massa please!!" Btw- cute kid,bad actress though. Waaaaayyy too calm in the face of death.....and the casting for the cops was decent, because last time statistics checked--majority of cops ARE white guys ,so yeah, the cops looked.....cop-y.l,and begging was the appropate reaction to the situation. The endless fake-o latin chanting quickly became annoying, but i stayed intrigued as i wanted to see how it all played out. Was really hoping the world would burn.......didn't really get a straight out answer, but the implication was heavily laid throughout the movie. Not the worst movie i have ever seen, and i have seen a TON of terrible movies......this isnnot one of them.

E-Demon fun horror

E-DEMON (9/14) Written and Directed by:Jeremy Wechter Produced by: Jeremy Wechter, Michael Gonzalez, PJ Starks, Emily Pojman Starring:Julia Kelly, John Anthony Wylliams, Christopher Daftsios, Ryan Redebaugh, and Cedric Cannon Distributor : Dark Cuts

A group of college friends reunite occasionally to keep there friendship alive via video chat in Jeremy Wechter's E-Demon. The group has a tradition, where they freak out each other by playing pranks! But tonight's session after a few freak outs seems to have gone terribly wrong. Our friends Kendra, AJ, Mar and Dwayne are on ready to talk old time and go crazy. After a really cool freak out involving a family secret tucked away in attic. Things start happening for real when an ancient demon is released and quickly possesses everyone. This movie is unique because it takes places entirely on a computer screen with footage shown via webcams. It plays to today's technically obsessed core audience! I was growing tired of found footage movies and found this unique style a pleasant surprise. The technique is flawless and works well. You see so much through there personal webcams tour actually there with each character. It mixes ancient legends of the Salem witch Hunt with today's modern evil...technology. The friends one by one become obsessed and do evil things, but are they really doing these unspeakable acts and acts of violence or is it a other prank? Writer/ Director Jeremy Wechter takes us on a mind blowing experience. You will be on edge and frightened! This is the perfect movie to watch with the lights out and a bowl of popcorn. The scare factor is that you get to see the scenes unfolding and also get the reactions of the people watching. You also get the followers watching there video chat, making comments. Excellent editing, well directed, a strong story and a great cast really pull this off. One of the most frightening scenes takes place when Dwayne's wife gets possessed and does the unspeakable and he can only watch and do nothing to stop her! Also worth to mention is the heroic comic store owner Cedric Cannon! The movie is violent but not gory, but is very effective and disturbing with out being over the top. Give this movie a try, perfect summer scare flick. Dark Cuts Pictures plans to release the film theatrically with a day-and-date VOD release in September.
