Clint Eastwood: Actor, Director ... Master Impressionist?

Clint Eastwood does it all in The Mule ... including keeping his cast rolling with a killer impression of a classic cartoon character. And yes, we have proof.

Storyline

Clint Eastwood stars as Earl Stone, a man who is ninety years old, broke, alone, and facing foreclosure of his business when he is offered a job that simply requires him to drive. Easy enough, but, unbeknownst to Earl, he's just signed on as a drug courier for a Mexican cartel. He does well, so well, in fact, that his cargo increases exponentially, and Earl is assigned a handler. But he isn't the only one keeping tabs on Earl. The mysterious new drug mule has also hit the radar of hard-charging D.E.A. Agent Colin Bates (Bradley Cooper). And even as his money problems become a thing of the past, Earl's past mistakes start to weigh heavily on him, and it's uncertain if he'll have time to right those wrongs before law enforcement, or the cartel's enforcers, catch up to him.

Trivia

Clint Eastwood slips in a reference to having been in combat, which he's habitually done in several movies dating back to Thunderbolt and Lightfoot (1974). This is ironic given that Eastwood, according to the late Don Loomis and others who knew him pre-fame, allegedly used a romantic relationship with an officer's daughter to avoid being sent overseas during the Korean conflict. Goofs

When driving past White Sands National Monument, Earl is driving on white gypsum road with sand dunes on both sides. This type of road is only found within the National Monument. The road past the monument is a paved US highway and sand dunes are not on both sides of the highway. See more »

Quotes

Earl Stone: [walking up to him] What? I thought you were dead. No such luck, I guess.
Tim Kennedy: Let me tell you something. Did anyone ever tell you you're a bit of an asshole, Earl?
Earl Stone: All the time. Even in Spanish. All the time.

Not bad..
28 December 2018 | by bdolloff-63905See all my reviews

I'll keep it short. Not a bad movie, a little slow but just enough to keep you interested. Good acting, funny wise cracks, ending kind of a let down. Still better than 90% of the movie out there. 7/10
