Of the four (4) Kingpin documentaries, although all four (4) were professionally delivered and highly informative I was disappointed with the actual content of this the John Gotti documentary. The two hour special focused mainly on the bitter rivalry between the up and comping aspirational New York mob captain John Gotti, and the old style leader and head of the Gambino crime family, Paul Castellano.
Although the murder of mob boss Paul Castellano was spearheaded by John Gotti who by default and intimidation became the De facto head of the Gambino family the documentary barely touched on John Gotti's reign at the top.
It was not as broad a history of John Gotti's rise to the top and (lack of) leadership after he was declared the boss of bosses of the New York Gambino family as I would have expected. Maybe that is why this documentary was moved as part 4 of 4 of the Kingpin documentary series as the producers ran out of time, resources and funding to provide as detailed a history of the kingpin John Gotti as they did with the first three (3) previous kingpin documentaries.
I give this segment four (4) an 8 out 10 rating.
