Quotes

  • Samar Ghosh : Check this out, guys.

[Samar points at the faculty map]

Samar Ghosh : Dean Bronson spends every evening knitting in the faculty lounge over here.

Carter Davis : Wait, what? he knits?

Samar Ghosh : I think he used to smoke, and then his wife made him quit, and, uh... oh, by the way, shocking hot.

  • [after killing Gregory, Tree hurries back to check on Lori. Lori pants heavily, pressing her palm on the wound. Carter helps her stand and supports her]

Carter Davis : Ready? Come on. There you go. I got you. I got you. All right. Yep.

Tree Gelbman : [arrives]  Oh, my God. Are you okay?

Lori Spengler : [smiles painfully]  I guess this is a pretty good place to get shot, huh?

[two nurses arrive with a stretcher]

Carter Davis : I'll lift you up now, all right?

[Carter lifts Lori and carefully places her on the stretcher]

Tree Gelbman : You're gonna be okay.

    Carter Davis : You're good. It's okay, it's okay. You're okay.

[Tree recalls that in the original dimension, she had to kill Lori in self-defence. The thought saddens her]

Tree Gelbman : Lori, I... I'm so sorry.

Lori Spengler : [confused]  For what? You just saved my life.

Tree Gelbman : I just... I wish things could have been different.

New Nurse : I'm sorry, but we need to move her.

[the nurses take Lori away, leaving Tree and Carter alone]

New Nurse : [to Lori]  Hang in there, hon.

Carter Davis : [to Tree]  Hey.

    Tree Gelbman : Hey.

[Carter notices Tree's facial injuries. He touches her forehead]

Carter Davis : [worried]  You okay?

Tree Gelbman : Uh, yeah. Yeah, I'm fine. I... I thought I told you to stay put.

Carter Davis : [smiles]  Yeah, well... sorry, couldn't help myself.

[they chuckle. Suddenly the lights flicker. Tree understands that she is about to be sent back to the original dimension]

Tree Gelbman : I think it's time. I hope you realize I'm only going back for one reason.

[Carter bends to kiss Tree. At the lab, the guards finally manage to open the doors. Samar grabs a fire extinguisher and sprays Dean Bronson and the guards with CO2 powder, delaying them. Ryan looks at the computer screen: Sissy will operate within four seconds. Bronson tries to reach the wires, but Dre grabs his leg, slowing him down. One of the guards grabs Samar. As Bronson nearly reaches the wires, Sissy operates. At the hospital, Tree and Carter kiss. The next moment, Tree is transported back to the original dimension. She finds herself in the lab, near Carter, exactly as it was before she transported to the second dimension. Ryan, Samar, Dre and Bronson regain consciousness. No sign of Ryan #2]

    Samar Ghosh : Oh, man...

[Samar finds an empty bottle near him]

Samar Ghosh : [sighs]  My Yoo-hoo.

[stunned, Bronson removes his glasses and looks around. Tree and Carter regain consciousness. Tree is unsure whether she made it back to the original dimension]

Tree Gelbman : [to Carter]  Danielle?

    Carter Davis : [puzzled]  Who?

[Tree is relieved. She hugs Carter closely]

    Tree Gelbman : Hi.

Samar Ghosh : On, my god. I think I just shit my pants.

    [ending credits]

  • [at the lab, Ryan shows Tree and Carter the device that caused the time-loop in the first movie]

Ryan Phan : The Sisyphus Quantum Cooling Reactor. We call it "Sissy" for short. You see all these? They're proton lasers, and when they fire, they cool the centrifuge right here to almost below one nanokelvin. So, basically, we're trying to prove that time can be slowed down on a molecular level. It hasn't worked yet, but we did find some promising data, after the device fired the other night.

    Tree Gelbman : When?

Ryan Phan : 12:01 AM yesterday.

Tree Gelbman : [shakes her head]  Monday the 18th.

    Ryan Phan : [nods]  Mm-hmm.

[Tree gives Ryan a murderous look]

    Ryan Phan : What?

Tree Gelbman : You created the time-loop, dummy!

[Tree, Carter, Ryan, Samar and Dre sit at the cafe. Tree explains them what happened in the previous film]

Ryan Phan : That's impossible. That's not what Sissy was designed to do.

Tree Gelbman : I don't know what to tell you.

Samar Ghosh : Well, maybe we're just discovering what it actually does.

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : An unintended reaction. Maybe we thought we were slowing time, but what if we looped it instead?

Tree Gelbman : [to Ryan]  Now you're stuck in this day. Congrats. Oh, and by the way? You're going to die. Again... and again... and again.

Ryan Phan : [cringes]  Carter, tell your girlfriend to stop trying to scare me.

Carter Davis : Oh, she's not my girlfriend.

[Tree gives Carter an offended look]

Carter Davis : Well, wait, are you my girlfriend?

[Tree remembers that from Carter's perspective, they know each other only for one day]

    Tree Gelbman : Kinda.

  • [Samar and Dre enter the lab, arguing]

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : But a parsec is a measure of distance, not time!

Samar Ghosh : OK, so now you're gonna call Han Solo a liar?

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : No, I'm saying if a normal Kessel Run is...

Ryan Phan #2 : [tied to a chair]  Dre! Help me!

[suddenly they notice there are two Ryans in the lab, one at the console and the other tied to a chair. They watch Ryan and his replica in disbelief]

    Ryan Phan #2 : C'mon!

    Samar Ghosh : Whoa...

[Samar looks at the bottle of chocolate milk he is carrying and shakes his head]

Samar Ghosh : [to Dre]  Dude, did you dose my Yoo-hoo again?

    [Dre shakes her head]

  • [Tree, Carter, Ryan, Samar and Dre gather at the lab. Tree explains the situation to them]

Tree Gelbman : [to Ryan]  Listen to me carefully. I need to stay here in this dimension. Okay? So just close the loop.

Ryan Phan : Look, we have no idea how this even happened in the first place.

Tree Gelbman : Well, you're all brainy science people, right? So you'll figure it out.

Samar Ghosh : You realize we're messing with things we have no business touching, right?

Tree Gelbman : [sharply]  Well, maybe you should have thought of that before you built the big dumb thing! Just... just please do me a favor and try to figure this out, okay? Please.

Ryan Phan : Look, this is gonna be a trial-and-error situation. We have to rule out every variable in order to narrow down the correct algorithm that will close the loop.

    Tree Gelbman : Okay.

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : It's days, maybe weeks of work. And if what you're saying is true, there's no way to keep a record of our progress.

Tree Gelbman : [cluelessly]  I'm not following.

Samar Ghosh : [shakes his head, approaches the board]  Okay. Um... say we test, like...

[using a marker, Samar circles several equations]

Samar Ghosh : ...dozens of variables. By the end of the day, the loop will reset, right?

    [Tree nods]

Samar Ghosh : So everything we earned gets...

[Samar erases the equations he circled]

Samar Ghosh : ...erased. There's no way for us to track our progress simply because we just don't remember anything we learned.

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : And we'll be back to square one.

Tree Gelbman : [throws up her hands in frustration]  Great.

[Tree sinks into a chair, hopelessy]

    Tree Gelbman : I'm screwed.

    [silence falls]

Carter Davis : Wait, no, I got it.

[Carter stands and approaches the board]

Carter Davis : Okay, you said everything resets but your memory, right?

    Tree Gelbman : Yeah.

Carter Davis : All right, well, then... you're just gonna have to be a living record.

Tree Gelbman : Wait, you mean memorize everything?

    Carter Davis : Yeah.

    Samar Ghosh : That's genius.

    Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Yeah.

Tree Gelbman : No. No, no, no, no. That's not genius. I'm not a scientist. And hello? I mean, you do realize there's a killer after me, right? That means I'm gonna have to die over and over again until you guys figure out how to close the loop.

Samar Ghosh : [hesitantly]  I mean, I guess you could just kill yourself before they find you.

Tree Gelbman : [sarcastically]  Wow. Another genius idea.

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Um, better than being chased by some crazy guy in a baby mask.

    [Tree wears a desperate expression]

Carter Davis : I mean, do you have a better idea?

Tree Gelbman : [sighs]  I knew you were gonna say that...

[for the next days, the gang works hard to find the correct algorithm. Tree does her best to memorize the complicated equations. With every try, the screen gives the same message "sequence failure". Every day, Tree watches Danielle and Carter kiss, and she is filled with jealousy. To her delight, she spends time with her parents. She finds creative ways to kill herself - dropping a toaster into a bath, drinking a liquid cleaner, skydiving without a parachute, jumping into a woodchipper, jumping from a clocktower. With every passing day, she grows weaker]

  • [Tree gathers the group in the lab and explains the situation to them. Then she draws on the board the equations she has been memorizing in the past days]

Tree Gelbman : ...Then you multiply the Euclidean vector by the square root of pi to the seventeenth power, which then gives us an axiom point of 0.004, which then gives us a linear-plane vector of 8.2...

[Tree sighs and drops the marker]

    Tree Gelbman : Boom.

    Carter Davis : [impressed]  Damn!

[Tree smiles. Samar and Dre approach the board and carefully examine the equations]

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Well, if these are all the failed algorithms...

Samar Ghosh : ...Then there's only one possibility left.

[they turn to Ryan. The three rush to the computer. Ryan sits down and types the equations. Carter and Tree approach. Then the message "system ready" appears on the screen]

Ryan Phan : Holy shit balls. You did it!

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Oh, oh!

Tree Gelbman : What? It worked?

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Yes, yes, yes.

Tree Gelbman : It worked? Oh, my God, it worked!

[they are excited. Tree hugs Carter]

Samar Ghosh : We did it! Why are we so excited? We barely know her.

Carter Davis : Honestly, I-I don't know what just happened, but that was impressive.

    Tree Gelbman : Thanks.

Ryan Phan : [hugs their shoulders]  Let's do this!

[Samar and Dre examine the wires and cables of Sissy. Ryan turns to Tree]

Ryan Phan : Just so we're totally clear, one variant closes the loop in this dimension, and the other one sends you back to your original dimension and closes that loop. It's final decision time. Stay here or go back.

[Tree hesitates. She turns to Carter and looks at him for a long moment. Then she turns to Ryan]

Tree Gelbman : I'm staying here. Final decision.

Ryan Phan : Okay. Here we go, then. Stand back.

[Ryan sits at the computer and starts typing. Tree stands near Carter. The machine starts to fire up, but suddenly it powers down]

    Ryan Phan : Huh?

    [Samar and Dre sigh]

    Tree Gelbman : What happened?

    [Dre approaches the computer]

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Oh, the vector's off.

Tree Gelbman : [worried]  But you said this was the right one.

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : No, the math was right. Something else is off.

Tree Gelbman : [desperately]  Guys, I have literally been killing myself to memorize this shit for you. Failure's not an option.

[Ryan and Dre's eyes fix on something]

    Tree Gelbman : What?

Ryan Phan : There's something in the hard drive. It must be a virus.

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : [to Samar]  Dude, did you open spam porn again on the computer?

[everyone stares at Samar accusingly. He has a guilty expression]

    Samar Ghosh : [unconvincingly]  No!

Ryan Phan : [grumbles]  Great. I have to manually re-enter all this code.

  • [Tree and her friends gather at the lab. Sissy is ready for closing the time-loop and sending Tree back to the original dimension]

    Ryan Phan : You ready?

[Tree looks at Carter, then nods. Ryan walks toward the computer]

    Tree Gelbman : Wait.

    [Ryan stops. Tree faces everyone]

Tree Gelbman : I know this is probably pretty confusing. I mean, you guys have only known me for a couple hours...

[Samar and Dre smile at each other]

Tree Gelbman : ...but I've known you for weeks. You've all worked really, really hard to try to send me home. So thank you.

Samar Ghosh : [jokingly]  Well, jury's still out on whether you're totally nuts, but, uh...

[Samar chuckles. Dre gives him a chiding look]

Samar Ghosh : ...glad we could help.

[Dre slaps Samar slightly in the stomach]

Tree Gelbman : Okay, Ryan, light her up.

[Ryan sits at the computer desk and turns Sissy on. While the machine warms up, Carter turns to Tree]

Carter Davis : S-So, in this other dimension, do we... do we know each other?

Tree Gelbman : You could say that.

[Tree and Carter smile at each other]

    Ryan Phan : 17 seconds. 16, 15, 14...

[suddenly, Dean Bronson storms in, accompanied by two burly security guards. Tree is shocked, since he was not supposed to do this but a day after]

Dean Roger Bronson : [to Ryan]  What did I tell you about turning that thing on?

    Samar Ghosh : Uh-oh...

Tree Gelbman : [puzzled]  Wait. This isn't supposed to happen yet. You're not supposed to come until tomorrow.

Dean Roger Bronson : [to Ryan]  Turn that thing off now.

    Tree Gelbman : No, don't!

[Bronson approaches Sissy. Tree and her friends rush to stop him, but too late. He unplugs the machine]

Tree Gelbman : No, wait, please. You can't do this.

Dean Roger Bronson : And who are you?

Tree Gelbman : I am a student here.

Dean Roger Bronson : Oh, well, keep this little attitude up, and we'll change that.

[Bronson turns to the security guards]

Dean Roger Bronson : Get that thing out of here.

Tree Gelbman : No, please d-don't.

[the guards ignore Tree and start moving Sissy out of the room]

Samar Ghosh : Hey, watch it, beefcake!

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Well, don't manhandle her. Well, where are you taking her?

Dean Roger Bronson : My office, where it will remain under lock and key.

[Bronson and the guards leave with Sissy]

  • [after Dean Bronson confiscated Sissy, the group is in despair. Hopelessly, Tree sits down]

Carter Davis : Look, okay, it's a setback. I get it. Right, but we just reset the day and try again.

Tree Gelbman : [in trembling voice]  No. You don't understand. I keep getting weaker every time I come back. I don't know how many chances I have left. For all I know, this could be it. If I die again, I could stay dead.

    Samar Ghosh : Hmm, that's a problem.

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : No shit.

    Tree Gelbman : Unless...

    [Tree stands]

Tree Gelbman : ...unless we steal it back.

    Ryan Phan : Steal it?

Tree Gelbman : Well, I mean, you know, it's not even technically stealing, is it? It's your property.

Samar Ghosh : Whoa, whoa, guys, I don't know about this. Like, if we get caught and I get expelled, my parents are gonna hang me by the nut sack.

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : I'm with him. Except for the "nut sack" part, obviously.

Carter Davis : [angrily]  Are you kidding me? Are... no. I'm sorry to throw a bag of dog shit on your front porch here, but I... this is all on you guys. You created this mess, so you're obligated to help her out of it. Besides, if she dies again tonight, that's blood on your hands.

    Samar Ghosh : That's a little dramatic.

Ryan Phan : He's right. This is our fault.

    [everyone looks at Ryan]

Ryan Phan : So we fix it. That's what scientists do. We solve the problem.

[Tree smiles. The group sits in the cafeteria and examines the campus map]

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : So, Dean Bronson's office is in this building here...

[Dre circles the office with a marker]

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : ...and the fastest route back to the lab is this path here.

Samar Ghosh : And check this out, guys. Dean Bronson spends every evening knitting in the faculty lounge over here.

Carter Davis : Wait, what? He knits?

Samar Ghosh : I think he used to smoke, and then his wife made him quit, and, uh... Oh, by the way, shockingly hot.

    Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Samar?

    Samar Ghosh : Hmm?

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Could we do the-the thing we're... we're doing right now?

Samar Ghosh : Okay, okay. Right. Sorry. Um, okay. So, we need to get the keys to his office, sneak over to admissions, break into the dean's office, grab Sissy, wheel her back to the lab without anyone from security seeing us, get Dean Bronson's keys back to him without him ever knowing they were gone, power up Sissy, run diagnostics, flip the switch, and bam... Tree's back in whatever wack-ass dimension she came from, and we... well, we just saved the damn day.

[Samar drops the marker. Everyone nods in approval]

Tree Gelbman : Okay. Sounds awesome. How do we do that?

    Samar Ghosh : [shrugs]  I don't know.

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : [rolls her eyes]  Of course.

Carter Davis : Okay, well, we obviously need a diversion. So we just got to find a way to distract Dean Bronson.

[Carter's cellphone rings with the tone of the song "You're beautiful". Carter takes it and looks at the screen: it is a call from Danielle]

Carter Davis : [embarrassed]  Uh, she picked the ringtone, all right? I...

[Carter walks a few steps from his friends and starts talking with Danielle. Dre mocks vomiting]

Carter Davis : Hey, babe. Yeah, uh, you okay?

[suddenly, Tree comes up with a great idea]

  • [mid-credit scene: Tree and her friends are cleaning the college yard, as a punishment for the mess Ryan made]

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Just doesn't make any sense.

Ryan Phan : Yes, it does. It acted like a slingshot. When she jumped back into this dimension, the vacuum created by the centripetal force closed the loop.

[Samar notices a partly-eaten churro on the ground]

Samar Ghosh : Who throws away a perfectly good churro?

Andrea 'Dre' Morgan : Oh, no, don't.

[Samar eats the churro. Suddenly, several black cars stop near them. People who look like FBI agents exit the cars and approach them]

Samar Ghosh : Uh-oh. This looks bad.

    Dr. Parker : Ryan Phan?

    Ryan Phan : Uh, maybe.

Dr. Parker : I'm Dr. Isaac Parker. I'm here on behalf of DARPA. We'd appreciate it if you'd come with us to answer some questions. All of you.

Tree Gelbman : Are we in trouble?

Dr. Parker : Please, right this way.

[Tree and her friends are brought to DARPA laboratory, where Sissy has been moved for further experimentation]

Ryan Phan : [gasps]  Holy shit. Sissy!

Dr. Parker : Hope you don't mind us borrowing her. What you've created here is truly remarkable.

    [Tree and her friends smile]

Samar Ghosh : Suck it, Dean Bronson.

Dr. Parker : We've been having some difficulties understanding how the device operates. We figured you could help.

Ryan Phan : There's so many different algorithms. It'll be tough to find the right one to make it work.

Tree Gelbman : I might be able to help with that.

[everyone looks strangely at Tree, who has memorized the correct algorithm in the second dimension]

Dr. Parker : Great. So, we just need to find a test subject.

Carter Davis : [smiles]  Wait, you... you want to trap somebody in a time loop? That's messed up. Unless they deserve it.

    [Tree has an idea]

Tree Gelbman : I think I have the perfect recruit...

[last scene: in her bedroom, Danielle wakes up screaming in horror, as she is now trapped in a time loop of her own]
