This show had so much potential: the swamp city atmosphere, the mystical voodoo aspect introduced in this episode, the jump scares and the gruesome violence that the show doesn't shy away of showing, a great main character in Abby and her dynamic with the people of city because of her tragic past, a really good cast of talented actors... So many positives points; but DC decided to cancel a potential great show, to give us multiple seasons of woke Bat Woman; make no sense.

Slow episode.

Warning: Spoilers
A bit slow of an episode. The show is taking its time to properly find its roots - no pun intended -, which I think is good. I know Swamp Thing technically isn't the main character, Abby is, but the show is based on him and named after him. And while I understand that he's finding out his purpose and that he's more of a recurring character at the moment because of that while everything else is more of a focus, I hope we start seeing more of him in future episodes as the show picks up. That's probably a weird thing to say considering this is only the second episode and Swamp Thing became Swamp Thing at the end of the series premiere, it just felt like he wasn't in this episode enough. Hopefully, that'll change soon. I'm sure it will.
Ya know what, I'm loving this so far...

Warning: Spoilers
It has brutal action, quite a few surprises in both episodes so far and not once did I get bored yet.
I love how the "Thing" looks, I don't know how they could've done it any better with their budget.
The story is compelling and I wanna know what's gonna happen.
The acting is quite good and beliveable and I thing the dialogue is actually excellent. Something I've noticed in this episode is that the write actually cares about off-screen intereactions. People don't just stop talking and interacting just because they're not shown. I noticed this first in the scene where they're with Danny and Abby goes upstairs to watch Alecs videos.
That said, if this continues on this level I am absolutely on board with this one. (Sad to see it cancelled already tho.)

2nd episode doubled up on the meh!

After 2 episodes and poor story development and ideas it's understandable why this show was cancelled. Main actors are terrible but some random other people (will Patton n Virginia Madison) who are good. But Abby is just terrible and unlikeable.
Likely try 1 more episode but doubt I bother watching the rest, which is unfortunate as I looked forward to this since it was announced and had just bought and rewatched the original movies , which are frankly better then this.

Monstro do Pântano (2019)
Series
1st Season
Episode Two - Worlds Apart
I confess that I jumped at the jump-scare in the protagonist's nightmare.
It's cool that there's already a resurrection so early in the series and we already know that it's not a good thing that it's back.
I haven't memorized any names yet, even the protagonist I call "the girl from Teen Wolf".
Is Swamp Thing an antihero or villain?

Who hired the casting?
gacsogergely10 June 2019
Because I want to thank that person.
I thought at the 1st episode, it was a nice job hiring Will Patton for the show, he's some quality actor still.
Then I saw Ian Ziering, and thought, nice cameo, or possible a role after Sharknado, he's working again!
But easily my favourite appearance here is from Kevin Durand, who until now played Mr Babyface from what I saw, but here he completly transformed. I hope this'll give him more roles, because it's something rly distinct from Lost, and Wolverine (I liked him in both product, only those were practicaly the same role).
Otherwise the show keeps the quality. Sure, Swamp Thing itself doesn't appear much, but given this is a very different medium, the live action, I can go with it, as well as all the new interpretations of the character.
Would be good to know what's the going behind the scenes, because if it's just some money, a crowdfunding might work for this once. If it is studio vs director, need to know where's the problem, thus the solution would be a) finding a new director asap b) the executives lay back and let the artist work!
PS: even more good casting was Alec Holland, and the voodoo lady. They added a certain factor to the show.

So she barely knew this guy and "liked him a lot"?
eunbi053012 June 2019
I like this show, but people accept some bad and forced "romance" just for the sake of it? She met the dude and the very next day he is dead and she was like "but I liked him so much", even rom-com doesn't try to fool us like that.
Also the kid sick seemed quite healthy and if the wasn't for the paler make up, she could have passed as any other kid.

I thought this was called Swamp Thing... This thing is a soap.

I have a feeling that most of the reviews here are shills. There is 45 or more minutes of padding in this thing.
If you actually want to watch Swamp Thing, start this about 12 minutes before it ends. You'll see the best of what this episode has to offer.
Bright spots are Will Patton, Kevin Durand, the two bad guys in the boat, and the little girl in the hospital. They're all fun to watch. The rest of the acting is pretty mediocre.
According to IMDB trivia: "Due to an accounting error made by North Carolina (where the show is filmed) the production didn't receive its $40 million dollar tax rebate (approximately half of ten shows budget). As a result, the show was announced cancelled one week after the first episode aired." It wasn't because it's basically a CW soap opera.
Also according to IMDB: "Due to creative differences at Warner Media regarding the show, production of season 1 was shortened from 13 to 10 episodes." That makes the amount of padding in this show even less excusable but may explain why there's so little Swamp Thing in it.

Like teen angst show, but with adults and a thin veneer of 'horror'
10 minutes of storyline between the first 2 episodes so far and paper thin characterisation.
The writing on this show is woeful and Len Wiseman continues his career of abject mediocrity.
I'd hoped for better given James Wan's involvement but this is crap.
'Does this review contain spoilers?' ???
There's nothing to spoil as literally nothing happens, they've dragged a page worth of comics origin story out into 2 episodes
Are we supposed to be surprised that Alec Holland becomes *shock* the swamp thing?
