James Gunn Let Original Suicide Squad Director in on His Reboot Plans
James Gunn says he discussed The Suicide Squad with David Ayer. Gunn is currently deep into the production and has shared a lot about his process on social media thus far. Ayer directed 2016's Suicide Squad, which was a box office success, despite negative reviews from fans and critics. Many assumed that Ayer would take the helm on the sequel, or at the very least connect with DC and Warner Bros. on another project. However, that has not been proven to be the case.

James Gunn recently held another live Q&a session through his Instagram Stories. DC fans were obviously happy to hear anything about The Suicide Squad, but one fan in particular wanted to know if Gunn had talked about the sequel with David Ayer. "David Ayer is a great guy [and] we have discussed and I've told him what we're up to with The Suicide Squad at least a little bit,

After approaching tank warfare in 2014’s Fury, David Ayer may be returning to the genre as he is currently in negotiations to direct another World War II tank movie titled El-Alamein for Lionsgate.
