I think it's cutest way to introduce children about Native American culture during today's crazy world. My daughter was very interested in it.

Modern Adventurer and Culture Celebrator
themischievouswalnut16 July 2019
I happened across this while randomly flipping through channels and was pleasantly surprised. The young characters are curious and excited, as children of that age usually are. Like Dora the Explorer, Wild Kratts, and Nature Cat the characters learn something new in each episode. In this series the young girl teaches basic internet literacy, map reading, and general problem solving, all while learning and celebrating her Native culture. The teaching isn't blatant but is the kind that kids will pick up on and parents will be pleasantly surprised at the understanding of technology and cultural themes their children develop. I was also surprised that it brought me to tears in one episode that mentions the assimilation campaigns that many Native peoples endured, a hard subject for adults, let alone children. Despite the difficulty of the subject, the writers didn't shy away from it but handled it naturally. I was thrilled to find that finally there is a show about Native children that is respectful, interesting, and shows what people often forget, that Native peoples aren't gone, we've been here the whole time.

My kids (4 & 6) can't stop singing the theme song! They love the show, it's got such a sweet and wonderful message. Not many kids shows have the heart this one does. I recommend Molly of Denali for all children and families!! Everyone will love it!

Wow, I just happen to turn this on for my kids and I am floored how well done this is! Such an entertaining show. My little ones were completely enthralled by it. They learned so much about Alaska, the land, animals, & people there. I definitely set up my dvr to save this show for my kids!

Great Show, Ignore the Haters
Glenrob25 July 2019
I was flabbergasted to see such harsh negative reviews of what our family sees as one of the best new cartoons on TV. My very Caucasian 3-year-old has rewatched the first couple of episodes so many times she's singing the indigenous language song by memory! ... I have to believe that nonwhite representation and the associated sensibilities are part of what drives such negativity in the comments below.

A wonderful show that is like nothing else on t.v.

My four year old has grown up on Thomas the Train and Curious George. He is now totally into this show and I am enjoying watching it as well. It's a new part of the country that a lot of people will never get to visit or explore. It also has cool educational tools like research and analytical skills. Finally, I like how it explores kinship and the importance of intergenerational relationships. I highly recommend if you have small kids and are already fans of PBS.

The episode "Grandpa's Drum" is a personal favorite.

Move over Dora

My 16 month old daughter claps and laughs from the moment the theme song starts. This show is a mainstay in our house and will be on repeat for a long time. Wholesome show with lots of educational lessons and positive messages about self, family, friendship's and community. One of the best parts about this show in my opinion as a parent this isn't an annoying show. It's got good music doesn't seem to get old even after watching them several times over.

A calmer review
BoxwoodExpress31 July 2019
In my original review of the series, I yelled and cussed because I was angry at all the tasteless and harsh negative reviews. Then, it was rejected by IMDb because of all those things. So here's a review of the series, this time with a more pleasant tone.

I don't know where anyone is getting the ideas that Molly of Denali is a ripoff of this or that; the premise is completely original. I like how the show teaches all about Alaska to kids in the lower 48 states. Heck, I learned a lot about Alaska. It also weaves in educational content about informational text, by having the characters go on the Internet and to the library for information.

The cast of characters are incredibly diverse. Besides Alaskan Natives, there are also Caucasian and African-American characters in the show, proving that Alaska doesn't just consist of Natives. Also, Alaskan Natives are rarely seen on TV, which means they finally get to see themselves through this show.

The writing and characters are really well done. The characters feel like real people, and the writing is snarky and intelligent. Molly, Tooey, and Trini have a great dynamic. I like how brave, selfless, kind and loyal Molly is. She earned the respect of the community of Qyah with all those traits, and didn't just get simply because she's the title characters.

Besides that, the show covers topic usually not seen in shows for the younger crowd. "Grandpa's Drum" covers the assimilation of Alaskan Natives into boarding school and the discrimination against them. "Culture Clash" talks about why stereotypes can be harmful, and not to trust everything you see in media. Those messages were very powerful and were not sugarcoated.

Molly of Denali is a quality program that anyone of any age can enjoy. Renew it for season 2, PBS.

Best Kids Show
neilherrmann25 October 2020
My 3 year old absolutely loves Molly. Obviously the representation the show provides was a long time coming and much needed. But beyond that the show is super fun has great characters a wonderful sense of community and has allowed me to learn about native Alaskan culture.

No matter how many times we see the same episodes they're still entertaining.

"Grandpas drum" episode is as good as any children's entertainment ever created.

Indigenous representation!
teressamuller10 August 2019
We LOVE Molly of Denali! She teaches about living in Alaska, the culture, wildlife/plants, and the people! Finally, Alaskan natives have proper representation! We also love how she teaches kids how to research and look things up by using a computer or the library. My two year old daughter and I have only watched 4 episodes, but we are already hooked!

VERY impressive
bdwilneralex22 August 2019
I watched an episode, fully expecting to be bowled over with excessive political correctness and cutesy-poo. Well, while Molly was a bit too unrealistically upbeat for my liking, my criticisms end there. In this episode, Molly helped a local naturalist outfit baby cranes with ID tags. So, the story was full of environmental consciousness. A native "crane dance" taught to Molly by her traditionally-minded relative helped the team attract the birds. So, there was a good dose of multiculturalism and a fascinating look at Alaskan Athabascan (perhaps Koyukon) folkways. We also learned some native words and even traditional recipes that evidence some Inuit influence. Overall, I found the material fascinating and absorbing. I think kids would be entranced by the songs, dances, and foods, and the adventures were reasonably comical and harmless. FIRST CLASS EFFORT!

When I watched this show, I found out that it teaches us Alaskan native culture and places that makes you feel like an adventurer. I loved Molly, Tooey, Trini and other characters that looks like Natives. Kids will find this show interesting and learning it's differences and learning the native language at the same time. When you want to explore Alaska and learn it's native language and understanding the culture, this show is for you.

👏 amazing! > one of the 👌 best cartoons out there.
batesd77 November 2021
I'm sorry it took so long to discover this ! Only when PBS Kids started on our steaming service _ Foxtel _ here in Australia.

I think the show would be more at home in a mature aged folks channel. The kids show status is misleading, it is so much more. I am over 59 years of age and have grown up with cartoons, and boy, I have fallen in love with the show. Thanks . I can't wait for the next series. Go eck out the pod casts.

Dazz.
