Great Episode
DrMaxLaugh6 October 2019
Felt like mid-2000s South Park. Lots of laughs in this episode and the satire of censorship in China was done well.

Sticking it to China's control via censorship.
pokerrakedeal8 October 2019
This episode is amazing in that it managed to give a giant FU to using censorship as a way to enact Chinese control over international industries.

The creators of South Park knew they were going to lose huge money over calling out this issue and become insta-banned in China, and in bad terms with Disney which is slowly attempting to to monopolize our entertainment yet they did it anyway. Laughs = 9/10 Real life impact = 11/10

overall score 10/10

So glad that this episode and China's South Park ban is being covered on some news outlets. I think there is reason to think that this moment and episode will go down as an important one in History books as well.

They know what's up.

How are they able to hit the nail on the head almost everytime? Great episode. PS: Everyone who hated the first episode of this season because they thought the creators started leaning left in politics... Just watch this episode and shut up.

These guys don't mess around
sn3z9 October 2019
A fantastic episode calling out China for all it's human rights violations and generally selling it's people out for profit over everything.

How a country can treat people like it does and get away with it is unreal. It does so many things wrong and practically nothing right. I will never visit it

This episode calls out Disney in a big way at it's about time. The selling out of Marvel and Star Wars for money is a travesty especially when you think about how much love and attention went into drawing those comics or making the first movies.

South Park rules and I'm glad they got banned. I feel sorrow for people living in China being exploited for profit then for those profits to be used to buy up the world's resources in poor desperate countrys. Gold, diamonds, bitcoin, jobs are iall going east and all we care about what the next phone will be.

Hong Kong is fighting a losing battle and China will never see a revolution while it's permanent president is in power.

Best in Several Years
GholamSlayer3 October 2019
After all the absurdity in the real world since the previous season, I was concerned how these guys would satirize something already so farcical. This here is the answer. The fact that they managed to work in Winnie the Pooh in China and still make it more absurd is miraculous. They've still got it. Here's to hoping the rest of the season is this good.

Good ol South Park
ericks-8689211 October 2019
South Park is best when they take advantage of their episode's quick turn around to comment on important current events, and when they criticize corporate authorities or media. I'm referring to episodes like BFF, Crack Baby Athletic Association, Margaritaville. I feel like they got a bit off track the last few seasons, and I don't know if any more episodes will be like this, but I liked this one and am hopeful for more.

One of the best South Park episodes in a long time
trolliyama6 June 2021
This episode is perhaps the most accurate description ever made of the corporate hypocrisy of big media companies, especially Disney.

By one side, they try to masquerade themselves as super-progressive and all that jazz, but once profits are at risk, they are more than willing to throw all the "woke" causes they supposedly support under the bus.

Nowadays is not only companies the ones doing this, but also celebrities as well.

The John Cena apology is a sad, pathetic example of that.

Highest ratings before the episode airs?

The episode airs tonight, but five "people" have already gave 10 out of 10 ratings. How? The ratings are clearly inflated.

Season 23's Paradigm Shift
unclesamsavage6 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
To all the critics of the season premiere, this episode must exhibit some lack of political affiliation on behalf of Parker and Stone. It definitely showed me. This episode was not as funny to me as the first, but it strayed away from the 'leftist' politics the first episode had. For as long as I have been watching South Park (going on twelve years now), I know its creators do not hold back against any issue or political side. They make fun of any and everything if it is worth satirizing.

While I do not have as much to say about this installment as I did with the first episode, I will say this season has still been very enjoyable so far. I loved the focus on the sudden trend of biopics about musicians and the Chinese audience controlling American creativity. Of course, Randy and Mickey get along just swimmingly and export American weed to China to turn a profit. The two characters share the same sociopathic disregard for life. They just want to make money.

Stan's band, Crimson Dawn, is a death metal band who gets controlled by Chinese censorship. The only difference between Randy and Stan is that Stan is unwilling to change just to make money. Some may say that is real personal integrity. That is the real irony this season is going after, right? Randy is the owner of an industrial farm that sells fake integrity. He capitalizes off of other hard-working Americans who actually do have integrity and independent views for which they are willing to stand their ground.

I really appreciated the shift in topics this episode offered, but the satire did not land as well for me this go around. It was a delight to see Mickey again and the show's distaste for Disney's sell-out policy. It will be interesting to chronicle the show as it evolves week-to-week to cover newer and more relevant social issues. Though I did not enjoy this as much as the first, I am hopeful the show will improve over the rest of the season and continue to make fun at the absurdity of all our society has to offer.

At least it was better than last weeks
djsburntpizza3 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This week's episode had its moments , Lets start with the good , Stan's band was legit and were the better moments of the episode , The little throwback At The end brought back some nostalgia and I loved it . Now the Bad , you probably guessed it , Tegridy Farms , Randy's character has kind of developed into an adult version of Cartman , The show is trying to fit two episodes in one and it just doesn't feel right , I really hope next week's episode is good !

Good topic to tackle, but another semi-boring episode
Liamcg3 October 2019
I really thought we were done with the whole serialised episodes, the Tegridy Farms thing seems to have gone on for way, way too long. I love Randy episodes and he's still one of my favourite characters but it's just really stale and not enjoyable to watch at this point.

Taking major shots at China was great, the most positive thing about this episode, seems like no one really has the balls to speak up against them

I said I was going to watch this season and be done with the following season/s if I didn't enjoy it; second episode in and it's already not looking good.

The show can still be great, but the season long storylines are just insanely boring and it seems to just get worse and worse with season 19 being the only solid one. Seems more like Trey and Matt want to just focus on issues in real life and not worry about the funny side of the show anymore.

The subplots are better than the Randy storyline, splash some more jokes in them and get rid of the serialisation, that would be a good start

Very weak start to s23, ditch the Tegridy Farms/Marsh storyline already and focus on single episodes for the love of god

It is silly but hilarious and the problem with the Hollywood and the hard metal. A perfect recipe for the South Park to go to the top of the league

South Park doesn't care if they're banned in China

I loved this episode. The reason why is Trey Parker and Matt Stone go full on and target the Chinese Government and The NBA and the Censors of China.

Satire that isn't too convoluted or exaggerated
aptcatex3 October 2019
The last few seasons have been a mixbag between being too convoluted - requiring a detailed knowledge of the subject to understand - or exaggerated - blowing a issue out of proportion.

By no means is this a groundbreaking episode. It just feels like a good South Park episode.

They could also add the concentration camp China created for Muslims. But over all a great episode.

Will they do Hello Kitty next?
ericstevenson4 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I remember looking up and finding out that Winnie The Pooh generates even more revenue than "Star Wars" along with Mickey Mouse and "Pokemon". They had done episodes about Mickey Mouse and "Pokemon" and here's one about Winnie The Pooh! He's not depicted as evil, but he does get killed. So the plot is that Randy is trying to sell weed in China. He gets arrested for doing that and gets out of prison by offering to help the Chinese. He gets help from Mickey Mouse too.

I just really do love how the song is going on with story arcs. I mean, for a show that's topical, that is a very hard thing to do. Aww, I missed Towelie. I had no idea Winnie The Pooh was controversial in China. Great allusion to the "Fingerbang" song. That might be the catchiest one they ever made. ****

One decent laugh
zhyates3 October 2019
Show continues its two-story split format with Randy and this time Stan's band instead of Kyle/Cartman.

Everything Randy does this episode I couldn't find interesting. His actions are extremely petty (the first scene with him and his family) or successful entirely off-screen. I also don't understand why this show forgoes foreign subtitles for dialogue (last week was Spanish, this week is Mandarin Chinese).

I think the half of the show focusing on the Band was more interesting, because it at least had some sort of basis in censorship and cultural selling-out which Hollywood has been a part of for the better part of the last 5 years or more. Even that wasn't particularly funny, and I think that's a lot due to how much of the time the Randy story takes up.

More Tegridy than last week
smilestherockstar8 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
The synopsis is that Randy flies to China in an attempt to make Tegridy Farms make more money and Stan forms a band in which he and his friends get to film a biopic.

The first plot where Randy goes to China is funny but does have some flaws. I thought the fact that Winnie The Pooh and Piglet where in jail because the show is banned in China was hilarious and was probably my favourite part of the episode. I almost lost it when Pooh said his iconic line "Do you have any honey?" in Prison.

I loved it when they brought back old characters in the last season, so my favourite part was when they brought back Mickey Mouse. I love how they have always portrayed Mickey as an overlord. And his appearance in this episode is just as good as he ever was.

As for what I didn't like about this plot. The Chinese Prison was a pretty bad scene since we already saw a detention center in the last episode, it felt extremely repetitive for them to put Randy in prison in this episode. Also, other than the fact that Kenny was in Stan's band, he had no lines and the episode wouldn't be any different without him.

Overall, "Banned in China" is a good South Park episode with little but some flaws. I can't wait to see what Matt and Trey to next for the 300th episode.

Interesting to watch but felt disappointed as well
Patrickzq4 October 2019
Just want to say most pictures shown in the end are not even about China if you take a close look at them, but they don't care. As for the other part, we may call it exaggeration. However I really hate it when people think they can manipulate others' thoughts, whether they are government, social media or activists. What happened recently really disappointed me. I just can't believe big companies like twitter, facebook, youtube did things like that. I don't expect anything from Chinese government, we all know who they are. But I do expect those who believe in universal values should know what integrity is about. Just don't lower yourself to their level.

A great one off
itwperiod1 November 2019
There are a lot of one off episodes in this season, but this is the best one in the season by far. Offers great commentary on censorship in China, because it's about time someone talks about this sort of thing.

Also it's clear China is literally botting this episode with 3 and 4 star reviews so I'll just give this a 10
