Emotionally powerful and heartbreaking

Warning: Spoilers
This episode took a major turn towards the end, following Maya getting all angry because of the way her mom showed preferential treatment towards Anna when she stayed over for a couple of days. The ending was heartbreaking, and for anyone who grew up with parents growing apart, this episode really is on point.

Moving

It has a silly start, but the progression was good. it was kind of chaotic, given there's too many elements at play here.

I don't feel this often, and I'm not sure, but this one with its emotions and complication, was a little hard to get through. Although I cried, and sympathized, I lowkey feel disgust for the human nature, for the fart/butt jokes, for the non-confrontational approach the two friends followed, and rather employed passive aggression and pleading ignorance. However, it's understandable, given that they're seventh graders underdeveloped human beings.

I liked Maya's facial expressions at times, it's kind of unique.

Incredible chemistry

This has got to be in the top 50 episodes of television ever made. Even before this episode, I couldn't remember a show with two main characters with better chemistry. This episode really, really showed that, even though we see real tension between them for the first time.

There was so much under the surface here that was unspoken during Anna's visit to Maya's house.

How Anna bonded with Maya's family and how Maya felt incompetent (in cutting the tomatoes, in scat singing for example). The jealousy was so painful to watch. When Maya's mother said she wasn't a little girl anymore that was so sad and acted so authentically. Maya's mother has such a great performance here too.

I love how this show allows us to witness a deep friendship, one which many people can only envy. At the end, we understand how much they need each other. I can't wait to see where this goes.
