Show some respect kids. you are in the presence of greatness
Nightmarelogic19 October 2019
Warning: Spoilers
For the record I have seen all 10 of the of the first season episodes (and there will be a second season so yay) and if Marc Cherry is telling the truth this will be an anthology series like American Horror Story in which a lot of the actors will be back playing different rolls but while AHS told different kinds of Horror stories Why Women Kill is more a dramedy that asks the question why they kill.

The first season told three unique stories set in one Pasadena home in three different eras. All three stories are exceptionally well done although the current era one is the weakest. Most people comment on Lucy Lui in the 80s era story and her relationship with both her gay husband Karl and her young lover Tommy. But personally I found the 60s story to be the best. Ginnifer Goodwin was superb as Beth Ann Stanton the increasingly bitter wife of the lying and cheating Rob Stanton.

The final episode weaved all three stories into their own exiting conclusions and I can't wait to see what Marc Cherry comes up with next.

MARC CHERRY DOES IT AGAIN
roxygirl-3357117 August 2019
Solid cast with a clever premise revolving around 3 different women who have lived in the same Pasadena mansion but in 3 different time periods (60's, 80's, present). Love the costumes, hair, and makeup for the various time periods as well. Very campy and fun writing. If you like Desperate Housewives, you will like this as well. Can't wait to see how the various plots hash out over the season.

It's Excellent

Put your views of the world aside and enjoy this show for what it is. Good story telling. The world is different now than it was 20, 30, even 50 years ago, but some things stay the same love, anger and revenge. I see that in this story and the first episode drew me and had me wanting more. Can't wait to watch the rest of the season.

Warning: Spoilers
This is a fabulous show!!! Love the different time periods and the costuming for each one of them. This a great adult theme sex/comedy/crime show. Lucy Liu is fantastic as the rich manipulative/controlling wife. Also, Ginnifer Goodwin so adorable submissive, cute but soon awaken to fight back a controlling jerk husband. Davenport handsome with that manly voice as the gay cheating husband. Looking forward to continuing watching the next episodes. Great show!

I hate waiting on new episodes!!
cscott233113 June 2021
This show had me hooked IMMEDIATELY! So many others take me a few episodes to really get into it, man! Not this one. The second season is done a bit differently than the first. Doesn't matter because the cast is strong and the storyline is so interesting and fun. The first season was glorious. The way they told the stories, just perfection! I'm so happy I found this show. If you're looking for AMAZING actors and meaty storylines this is for you. Lucy Liu and Ginnifer Goodwin's performances were just fabulous! Made me fall in love with Lucy Liu allover again! Then when the second season showed up with Allison Tolman and Nick Frost as key players, I thought to myself...they've done it again. Struck gold with the cast! This show is fun, exciting and very easy to follow. If you're looking for a binge worthy show, well you've found it!

Why Women kill !
abade-6169915 August 2019
I liked it, the story is beautiful and interesting despite its simplicity, I liked all the characters in the three different decades, it seems that it will become one of the best I've seen, I hope another season from now

Keeps getting better
sophia5524 December 2019
This show started out strong and continued to improve, culminating in an absolutely breathtaking season 1 finale. This show took cliched subject matter and turned the "women who kill" trope completely on its head by creating incredibly nuanced female characters. Initially, I found the Lucy Liu storyline to be the weakest, relying too heavily on stereotypes. But over the course of a few episodes, her storyline quickly became the strongest, and was expertly acted by both Lucy Liu and Jack Davenport. I laughed, I cried, I'm waiting with baited breath for season 2!

If you like Desperate Housewives, you will love it (EDIT - SEASON 1 ONLY)
ramair3504 February 2022
EDIT: My original review was for the full season 1. Loved it. My wife and I watched season 2 ... well, half of it anyway, and just could not keep going. For me personally the magic was completely gone. Hard to pinpoint why, but I missed the clever narrative devise of multiple timelines from the first one. It wasn't terrible, but with so much great content available these days it simply was not worth my time to continue watching. The critics have the opposite opinion of mine, so obviously some people may love season two, good for you, glad you enjoyed it :-)

My new rating of a 7 reflects a 9 for season one, and a 5 for season two.

................

ORIGINAL REVIEW

I enjoyed Desperate Housewives (yes a guilty pleasure) when it was on, and nothing has quite filled that "dramedy" niche for me since. Well, the same creator rolled out Why Women Kill, and it feels completely the same (pacing, filming style, writing, humor). But it is freshened up a bit and has the multiple storylines across different eras, plus has been retooled as anthology style with independent seasons (I love this trend by the way). But if it had a woman narrating the beginning and end you would swear you had just watched Housewives! Anyway, that's it ... plain and simple, if you loved Housewives then this show is for you. And if you never saw Housewives and enjoy a fun and quirky comedy show (almost a comedy soap opera in way), then go watch that first!

Season 1 A+++++ Season 2 D-
sfalodge25 February 2022
I have watched season one several times. It's so very good.

Season 2 is boring and very disappointing. The plot lines are all over the place and the characters are hard to like.

7 or 8 for S1 while 6 for S2.
j-9180829 July 2021
Season 1 is really popular in China and it's worth it but S2 is disappointing.

Foreshadowings are given up and some plots are too deliberate. The ending is unsatisfactory.

8 Stars for S1 and 2 for S2
ValterVoghen20 August 2022
S1 was great and is definitely a worth watching show. S2 is more like a torture, just one storyline and a boring one. It gives the audience nothing but the craving for it to end soon. You will be tempted to skip some episodes just to see the finale. It was like watching a totally different show, in not a single aspect related to Season 1. I will give a chance for 1 or 2 ep if they make a 3rd season, but my expectations are very low now.

Outstanding, Refreshing show! Different and fresh.
teddytodorova-4003826 September 2019
The show is absolutely brilliant! It got me head over heels, once I'm rooting for the characters, other times they get me pulling my hairs. The story is more complicated than it seems, flat is the farthest from truth. Rooting for more episodes and seasons! Watch it, people! That's a memorable drama you don't want to miss!

Slowburner In the Best Way
Sara_Tor21 April 2021
This was a slowburner for me.

When I started the show I wasn't sure, and by the end I thought it was one of the best I've seen. It's funny, original, and heartwarming (but not cheesy). Lucy Liu and Ginnifer Goodwin are absolutely fantastic. Watch it! You will be glad you did.

The cast is great, especially the murderous Lucy Liu. I am in. They are more intriguing than those three women in Charlie's Angels reboot.

Great formula and cast
phd_travel10 September 2019
For all those people who have missed Desperate Housewives, this wonderful series fills the gap. The three time zone formula is delightful and has keeps things from getting stale. Eye opening contrast about how fidelity an unfaithfulness are handled in the 60s, 80s and now.

The cast is well suited to their roles. Ginnifer is cuddly as the initially doormat 60s housewife and Lucy is good as the status conscious 80s woman with a gay hubby. In the present day Alexandria Daddario is quite pretty as the bisexual temptress.

This show really fills a void.

Best television comedy since Desperate Housewives
tm-sheehan8 January 2020
Why Women Kill - my Rating 9/10

If you loved Desperate Housewives you'll love this new series by the same writer and creator Marc Cherry which is streaming on TEN All Access it's worth the Complimentary Free Month Trial.

This is what good television series direction and production can achieve without pretending to be a Cinema movie. First series is in ten instalments.

Why Women Kill follows three women from different decades who are connected through having all lived in the same Pasadena mansion and experiencing infidelity in their marriages. Beth Ann Stanton remains content as a housewife in 1963 until she learns of her husband's unfaithfulness, socialite Simone Grove discovers her third husband's homosexuality and begins her own affair with a younger man in 1984, and although in an open marriage in 2019, attorney Taylor Harding finds her relationship tested when she and her husband become attracted to the same woman. The infidelity in each marriage sets off a chain of events that ends with a woman taking the life of another person.

The three eras - 1963 * Ginnifer Goodwin as Beth Ann Stanton, Rob's subservient wife. * Hartlyn Hilsman as a young Beth Ann. * Sam Jaeger as Rob Stanton, an aerospace engineer married to Beth Ann. * Sadie Calvano as April Warner, a waitress having an affair with Rob's secretary. * 1984 * Lucy Liu as Simone Grove, a twice-divorced socialite married to Karl. * Harmonie He as a young Simone Grove. * Jack Davenport as Karl Grove, Simone's third husband who is using their relationship to conceal his homosexuality. 2019 * Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Taylor Harding, a bisexual, feminist attorney in an open marriage with Eli. * Kendall Denise Clark as a young Taylor Harding. * Alexandra Daddario as Jade / Irene Tabatchnick, the bisexual mistress of Taylor. * Reid Scott as Eli Cohen, a screenwriter in an open marriage with Taylor. * Why Women Kill is a must see in my book I haven't been so impressed with an adult comedy series as much as this since Desperate Housewives

Loving Season 2 so far! :D
midnitepantera21 June 2021
I'm a Mark Cherry fan and enjoyed Season 1, but I'm liking season 2 better so far, all the vintage detail is just glorious eye-candy. From the houses, furnishings, clothes and cars. The characters are a bit over the top, but deliciously bitchy and fun. And I love that dog! Ha hahaha. Can't wait to see how season 2 ends. ;D.

They should just kill themselves
Hacker-412 September 2019
I really tried to give this a chance since I liked Desperate Housewives and Devious Maids, but the characters are so irritating and unlikeable that it makes the show nearly unwatchable. Ginnifer Goodwin's character is so spineless that the only surprise is that her husband didn't divorce her years ago. Everyone in the modern storyline is terrible, but the wife is possibly the most insufferable character currently on TV. It's laughable that we're supposed to believe that one person, let alone two, are in love with her. The 80's storyline is the only watchable one and that's only because Lucy Liu and Jack Davenport look like they're having fun. Unfortunately that's not nearly enough to compensate for the bad writing or to save this dud of a show.

Wish I could give it another 10 stars for S2
bronaghbop27 August 2021
I absolutely loved S1, so witty, sharp, poignant and hilarious and S2 is every bit as good. My only complaint is that it's not available to buy on DVD in region 2. Why on earth is that? I have family, friends who would love this but don't have Sky and I'd love to be able to get it for them.
