- The team arrives in the 1970s and tries to stop the Chronicoms' plan to put Insight into orbit decades early. Meanwhile, the Malicks continue their plan to infiltrate SHIELD with Hydra, and Enoch is reunited with the team after forty years apart.—Gislef
- In New York City in the 1970s, Coulson and Melinda walk down the street and Coulson enjoys the period smells and clothing. Melinda complains that she can't feel any emotions except the people near her.
Daisy emerges from a clothing store as Coulson and Melinda. Daniel comes out wearing his 50s suit, since he doesn't understand the appeal of 70s clothing. As they leave, Coulson and Daniel discuss the temporal paradox of Daniel being alive when he's supposed to be dead. Daniel refuses to go back to the Zephyr, and they go to the old SHIELD hideout where Enoch is working. The group goes in, and there are agents gathered to celebrate. The group goes to ask Enoch what's going on.
On the Zephyr, Jemma goes over some readings and fingers the back of her neck. Deke comes in and says that Mack wants him to train for the field, and Jemma tells him that Freddy died three ears. When Deke asks about Fitz, Jemma says that she hasn't heard or him but figures they will be reunited soon. Deke points out that if Jemma and Fitz don't get together, his mother won't exist and neither does he. Once Deke leaves, Jemma briefly feels the spot on the back of her neck, and it glows red under her skin.
Yo-Yo and Mack go to the Lighthouse, and Mack notes that history says SHIELD abandoned the place in 1972. He tells Yo-Yo that they're there to be alone with Yo-Yo, and assures her that she's competent with or without her powers. They continue in and find someone there working at his desk.
The group sits down at a table, and Melinda picks up the drunkenness from the patrons. She approaches Daisy at her table and says that she didn't find Enoch, and things might be worse than they thought. Once she recovers, Melinda says that the staff hasn't seen Enoch in over a year. Meanwhile, Coulson and Daniel are sitting at a separate table and realize the agents are there celebrating one agent. Daniel realizes that the man is General Rick Stone, and Daniel remembers him as an enlistee.
Stoner thanks everyone for being there, and welcomes his boss and their friend, Wilfred Malick, who is going to kick off the next phase in their global secrecy. Fred gives a speech about how they have targeting satellites to neutralize hostiles anywhere in the world. Coulson figures that Hydra is 40 years ahead of schedule, and Fred presents Project Insight to the gathered agents.
Coulson tells Daniel that Hydra only has a few people at the top of SHIELD, just like in his time. He figures the Chronicoms are helping Fred, and them keeping Fred alive is the first threat they're altering. Daniel suggests that they should have left them in 50s, but Coulson points out that they don't know how that would have turned out. As they go to mingle, Coulson tells Daniel to keep a low profile because he's a legend.
Melinda goes to the bar and flirts with Stoner, and says that she was thinking of transferring to his division. Stoner is flattered, and she asks about the Insight satellite. He says that they're three years from being ready to launch.
Daisy watches Nathaniel Malick, and his brother Gideon approaches Daisy and flirts with her. He says that he earned his spot in SHIELD, and says that his father Fred has been sealed up in his office for the last few days. Gideon insists that she stay with him, and Daniel comes over, claims that he's Daisy's fiancée, and leads her away. Once they're alone, she says that Nathaniel was supposed to die in 1970s but there's been another timeline change. Daisy tells Daniel that she got a clue as to where he can get more info.
Coulson calls Jemma and tells her what they've learned, and tells her to pull information on Insight from radio chatter. Once she hangs up, Deke overhears the conversation, and Jemma tells him that he made the right call by not killing Freddy back in the 30s. He worries that Fred was kept alive for three extra years and they have no idea what.
Mack confirms that the man in the Lighthouse office has been rerouting power to something big and the base is active. Yo-Yo figures that it's a bad deal, and a man enters a hangar within the base. There's a large rocket inside.
Daisy and Daniel break into Fred's office and Daisy opens the concealed room's door. There's high-tech equipment inside, and Daisy figures that it's Fred's base of operations. She accesses his computer while Daniel finds a gun in a drawer and pocket sit. Daisy hacks the computer and finds a list of targets for Insight: mostly SHIELD assets. One of the assets is Bruce Banner, and Daniel wonders if they made the timeline worse by their invention. He figures where Hydra got the name from the futu8re.
When Daisy and Daniel come out, Melinda and Coulson move to joint hem. Fred thanks Coulson from coming by, and asks who Coulson is. Coulson gives him a cover story but Fred doesn't believe it. Two of his Chronicom "friends" come over, including Luke, and Fred tells Coulson that he remembers him from when they met in the past.
Daniel and Daisy realize that Coulson and Melinda are in trouble, and Daniel wonders what they should do. Daisy sees Nathaniel, grabs him, and takes him over to Coulson and the others are. When Coulson sees him, he tells Fred that if they let him go, he'll hand over Nathaniel. Luke says that it should end now and the Chronicoms draw their weapons. Fred tells them to stand down, and the team leaves. Daisy leaves Nathaniel at the door, and Fred tells Luke that he wasn't going to endanger his son.
Outside, Daisy blasts the Chronicoms as they come after them. Nathaniel follows and sees them, and Enoch pulls up in a car. Ge has them get in and drives off, while Luke finds his unconscious underlings and figures that it's time to change the rules.
Everyone returns to the Zephyr and compares notes, and they figure Hydra is going to launch Insight from the Lighthouse and pick off the targets one by one. Mack says that they should disable Insight, and Daniel notices the time window counting down. Jemma confirms that they're about to jump and the Chronicoms are jumping early, and she can't stop the Zephyr from jumping after them. Yo-Yo runs out but before she can get to the hatch, the Zephyr jumps.
In 1976, Stoner is at the Lighthouse and receives word that Insight is ready to launch. He goes to the hangar where the launch rocket is completed,
On the Zephyr, Daniel asks Daisy how they jumped three years. Daisy explains that they can't control their time jumps, and Daniel wonders who does control them. Meanwhile, Jemma talks to Enoch and says that she feels like she's been sleeping without him. She says that she's forgetting things, and Enoch asks if she's told anyone else. When Jemma says that she hasn't because she's afraid to, and Enoch tells her to come with her and leads her off the bridge.
As they go, Daniel confronts Jemma and asks why they jumped. Jemma tries to put him off, and is furious that they don't know what's going on even though they're messing with time. Deke comes over and tells Daniel to back off, but Daniel says that he needs to get answers. When he says that he was taken out of his life, Deke tells him that they all were.
Mack comes in with the others and says that they have to move fast and stop Insight's launch. Coulson and Melinda will sneak into the fortified Lighthouse with charges, and blow the walls flooding the place. They're going to clear everybody out, SHIELD and Hydra, and Mack tells Daisy to hack into the surveillance system and get them a security feed. Daniel says that he's going with Daisy. Mack tells Yo-Yo and Deke to take the Quinjet and find Fred, then bring him in.
At a hotel room near the Lighthouse, Luke visits Fred and says that they need to talk about Fred's throwing away the chance to defeat their foes, to save his son. The Chronicom says that they've predicted SHIELD will find Fred, gives him a manila envelope, and says that when they do Fred will have leverage. Fred looks at the photo inside and wonders why they don't put them on the list of targets, and Luke tells him that it wouldn't be as effective because they want SHIELD to reveal themselves and give up their position. The Chronicom tells Fred to deliver the message, and Fred agrees.
Daisy and Daniel go to a power conduit and Daisy hacks into the SHIELD computer. Daniel figures that Daisy gets her quick powers from the super-soldier serum, and she vaguely tells him that her powers don't from the serum. She finds a firewall protecting the system and breaches it, and Daniel wonders if her laptop is big enough. Daisy demonstrates the capabilities of her cell phone, and Daniel laments missing the technology advances. Daisy tells him that it's worse if they don't go after the Chronicoms, and Daniel says that he wishes he could have said some goodbyes.
After hacking the security feed, Daisy sends the visuals to the Zephyr. Coulson and Melinda go in after knocking out two guards and taking their uniforms. They reach the first checkpoint and Daisy gives them access, and Coulson wonders if it will ever feel the way it used to when they were themselves. Melinda wonders if she's ever going to feel anything again.
Nathaniel arrives and stuns Daisy and Daniel with an energy blaster. He says that he's happy they came back into his life.
The Zephyr lands near the Lighthouse and Fred sees it.
Coulson and Melinda reach the second checkpoint, and Coulson calls Daisy. Mack is monitoring and realizes that Daisy isn't responding, and Jemma tries to reach her.
Deke and Yo-Yo break into Fred's room, and Fred figures that Deke would come. He says that they have a view to the launch, and they have no idea what they're up against. Fred tells them that he's not going anywhere.
Mack figures that they have to get Coulson and Melinda into position, and they still haven't reached Daisy yet. Enoch wonders if there's another way to bypass the checkpoints. Mack sees Stoner on the monitor, and tells Coulson and Melinda that they have a new plan. The two agents approach him and tell him that he can't launch the satellite because a Hydra cell has infiltrated SHIELD with the help of Chronicoms. Stoner apparently accepts Coulson's story, but Melinda punches him unconscious and tells Coulson that she could sense Stoner didn't believe him.
A missile silo opens in the lake outside the Lighthouse.
Fred tells Deke and Yo-Yo that if they keep fighting the Chronicoms, things will get messier. He holds up the envelope and says the Chronicoms knew how things would unfold, and let the SHIELD team think they had a fighting chance, but they were always ten steps ahead. Even if they figure out what's going on, there's nothing the team can do.
Coulson and Melinda place the charges.
Nathaniel drives off with the unconscious Daisy and Daniel.
Deke gets tired of Fred talking and shoots him in the chest. He points out to Yo-Yo that Fred is supposed to be dead and he's just restored the status quo. Yo-Yo looks at the photo in the envelope and mutters in disbelief.
Mack hesitates to give the signal to detonate when he sees two prisoners on the security feed: his parents. He realizes that if they flood the base, his parents will drown. Jemma tells him that they can't let Insight launch, and Mack tells her to abort the detonation.
Melinda and Coulson get Mack's order, and Insight launches. Guards surround the two agents and hold them at gunpoint.
Mack has Enoch initiate counter-measures, and the trio on the ship take it up. They shoot down the satellite rocket as it heads for space. Mack points out that they just gave up their position.
Nathaniel stops at a payphone and calls in asking for detailed instructions from Fred. He wants to find out if Fred's theory about surgically transferring enhanced abilities would work, hangs up, and walks away.
