Not Exactly Scary but Loads of Charm
Dragonborn6423 July 2019
It's unfair to keep calling it the Indian Stranger Things because it's apples and oranges. This is about ghosts though it takes a bit that story straight. There is a rather pointless subplot involving the husband and a devious ex lover but that along with the ending seemed to be only plot devices for Season 2. The cast is good with a couple real hams and for once the kid actors are likeable, not annoying.

Bad ending
anubhab-ray20 July 2019
Started nicely but ends like a low budget show. Could have shown more maturity direction in last episode.

A NICE ATTEMPT
Atrey_Doury21 July 2019
The story is simplistic and lies more in the genre of supernatural thriller than horror. This Netflix series suffers from the same malaise as so many others i.e. stretching a shallow script over too many hours. This would have been a very fine feature film but as a five - episode series with each episode of 50 mts (approx.) it is undeniably stretched. Main reason for this is failure to develop the characters presented. Nevertheless, the story even though simplistic is engaging, the actors are quite competent, direction is appreciable and the production values are good. I like it and endorse it as a recommendation. Nice!

Great premise ruined by the ending
pranay_misra19 July 2019
This show is for all audience, kids and adult and is very good. The acting is superb, kids are awesome as well as the adult characters(Abhishek Banerjee was superb in his role). Story progresses at good pace and there are no dull moments at all. It could have had been a masterpiece but the ending was not very promising and seemed done only to ensure a second season. But still it was a very good and i would suggest it to everyone. Locations of Goa are very beautiful, the villa showed here was also very good. The backstory developed was also great. Only if the ending could have been better this could have been the topic for discussion for a long time. But still its a must watch.

Good story, lacks seriousness
ajmanchesterutd19 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Typewriter had an intriguing story. The series however lacked seriousness as a result of the involvement of kids. Moreover the gravity of the premise follow the ressurecction of the fakir is never explored and it seriously undermines his powers as a bunch of kids are able to foil his master plan

Worth a Watch for Every Indian
NiharThakkar25 July 2019
The way some projects are performing (badly) which are made in India, Typewriter is a fresh attempt to prove that we are creative and good makers too. Obviously we can't compare every Indian Series with International Content, there's Vast difference. From what some Indian producers have been making for amazon/netflix etc. this is a pretty good attempt, worth a watch for every Indian.

Good-story telling, shot taking, locations, performances, screen play and dialogues. The characterisation and layering could have been better, it could have been a bit crispier but may be, since it is made for mostly the Indian market the makers have tried to spoon feed, which is otherwise not required. The editing could have been a little smarter and in the climax, the VFX team has not done a good job. But, a brilliant attempt, the location used and the look of the show is quite international. I hope many more attempts are made and we all get to enjoy good content along with some crisp making.

Well done Team Typewriter. Kudos - Sujoy Ghosh you have done an amazing job.

Do watch it. Cheers

Really good attempt
Suddu8428 July 2019
The story is really gripping and would keep you interested till the last episode . I'm seeing people calling it typical Bollywood and a stranger things rip off . Well have you guys watched stranger things 3? Hopper is supposed to die but will come back in season 4 . Didn't that look like a typical Bollywood flick ? The point is people will keep criticising Bollywood and will fail to appreciate genuine attempts to make good shows.

An earnest attempt
Kavikulaguru20 July 2019
It was nice to see a web series set in Goa - although the Goan village is a bit more organized than I am used to seeing.

The kid actors are uniformly excellent and the supporting actors do a fine job as well in shoring up what is an interesting but predictable series. The director is in fine fettle and the cameraman makes Goa look gorgeous.

The storyline itself is a tad weak - they could have done a slightly better job. The opening scene sets the mood and unfortunately the rest of the series doesn't really match up to the shock value offered in the first few minutes.

They have set it up for a sequel and that part seemed forced rather than organic. They could have found a better way to prolong the tale.

But for what it's worth, it is a decent weekend watch. Older kids will be drawn to it.

I starts to watch the typewriter cause i liked the trailer..no doubt its a good attempt by netflix india but its slow predicated and cringe worthy over the top writing makes it worse after each episode. Don't waste your time like i did.

A Goan ghost story
Tweekums9 April 2022
This Indian ghost story opens in 1983; writer Madhav Matthews is working on the book 'The Ghost of Sultanpur' in Bardez Villa, a large house in Goa, when his granddaughter Jenny tells him she can't sleep because of sound of crying in her room... while investigating for her he suffers a fatal 'heart attack'. After this prologue we move to the present and three children Sam, Bunty and Gablu are bunking off school to talk about ghosts. They decide to go and investigate the long abandoned villa; this plan is thwarted as Jenny, her husband and their two children have chosen that very day to move back into the house. One of the removal men goes to take an old typewriter from the attic but Jenny's daughter says she wants it. It turns out that a man named Amit Roy had offered to pay for the typewriter and he is not happy that he didn't get it. Strange things start happening at the villa and around Jenny. The trio of young ghost hunters determine to discover what is happening while Sam's father, a local police inspector, investigates a series of strange deaths.

I really enjoyed this five part series. It opens really well with a good creepy prologue and later deaths were somewhat disturbing, with bleeding from eyes, without being excessive. The young ghost hunters could easily have been irritating but I found them hilarious; especially Sam, who is their de facto leader and rather naughty for a policeman's daughter! While it is clear from the series' title that the typewriter will be key to the story but the exact reason why only becomes apparent later on. The story develops nicely mixing chills, laughs and occasional scares in a fine way. This involves several flashback scenes to key events that took place decades ago. The setting is great; the Bardez Villa is impressive with a good 'haunted house' feel and other locations are nicely scenic. The cast is impressive; most notably young Aarnaa Sharma, as Sam; Palomi Ghosh as Jenny and Purab Kohli, as Sam's father. Overall I'd certainly recommend this to fans of ghost stories who also want an occasional laugh.

These comments are based on watching the series in Hindi with English subtitles.

Nosedives after the first 15mins

Typewriter is just bad from the beginning to the end. Tacky sets, badly shot, poor screenplay and dialogues, average casting and a disastrous ending, makes this one of the worst shows currently on Netflix.

Comically, confusing horror web series.
FranklinGustov22 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
When you start to watch from 1st minute of E01, you feel you have chosen title wisely to spend time with. It's gripping, entertaining. All, till E03. E04 gives u little dull feelings as you are still in hangover of previous episodes. but ultimately when you hit E05, you are like..."wt the...", "wt scrap...", "wt bullshit...".

Believe me. It lives the hype of Indian answer to "Stranger Things" but all till when story is building up. When it's on height and reaches climax. it all shatters. So many unanswerable questions.

People may react like Season 02 would be nice and all but I don't think the questions which have been left unanswered, story which has been left incomplete and few flaws which can't be repaired at all in Season 02.

Story building is ultimate. Characters are being introduced in most dramatic, entertaining ways. but when it comes to proper "action" moments, it feels like we have been cheated. Few questions :

1. Buddy dog : is totally disappeared in climax scene (which is part of children gang) where it's most necessary. At initial story, he has been given much importance in capable of sniffing ghost and all but when real ghost moments are near at the climax, you can not find it anywhere. All you can see is children fighting directionless.

2. Doctor Spirit : is total waste of time. Why he has been introduced into the whole season, I still can not understand. It is shown that he has talent of locating and catching souls and is very famous personality. People, especially children are huge fan of him. but when children meet him, he is completely loose character, not living upto hype. He has been tragically turned from much hyped doctor to a thug for no reason.

3. Amit Roy : stabs doctor spirit in mid road. then after there is no investigation or nothing on him. Same way, he stabs Moses in last episode but magically, he lives on..!! really??

This very Amit Roy, falls off the cliff at very end from nearly more then 100ft depth but lives on..!! really??

4. While you are at last climax moments of episode and you are just about to witness ghost of sultanpore, The Fakeer...boooom....nothing is there. No ghost, nothing. Just bunch of kids playing around and disturbing a man calling Fakeer. All seem very comic.

5. At the back story of wtever happened in Sultanpore, suddenly old fellow on death bed who confesses that he has give all to his daughter in his will, changes to Fakeer's mother. how? who did it? seriously?? please, try to build up little nice vengeance story instead of such embarrassments.

6. At last, wt's the ending of the story of voodoo doll - Fakeer? it's really comic to see there's no use of voodoo doll at climax scene which was given so much attention from 1st episode. -------------

It feels depressing sometimes when you have much expectation from talented director Sujoy Ghosh. Of course, it's really a nice attempt to make some interesting horror series @ Indian front. but it all goes in vein when you reach final episode of SE 01. Even if there will be SE 02, there are still so many questions and story flaws that Sujoy won't be able to answer in SE 02.

Watch it with your kid for couple of moments to jump of the seat and stick in your seat with laughing loud till series ends.

Comically, confusing horror web series.

arvindpandey-0165322 July 2019
As I just finished watching Typewriter, I found that it ended up poorly like Ghoul did, I mean few kids/people may like it but who watch as much series/movies as I do wouldn't like it. Bad writing bad execution and last but not the least THE POOR ENDING.

Hold your interest till the very end
chatterjee-sun21 July 2019
An interesting Hindi horror/ mystery type series that will surely remind you of Stranger Things. However the similarities stop when it comes to acting and writing. The dirction is good and holds your interest till the very end when it feels like a bit of let down. Still a good watch.

Not up to expectations
bhupinder_sidhu24 July 2019
I had great expectations from this show as great Sujoy Ghosh directed it but I feel very disappointed after watching it. I don't understand but he was trying to make, Indian version of Stranger things ?? So this series neither for kids nor for adults. It started well but end miserably.

A family entertainer
Himanshu_mishra8 October 2019
The only reason i am ranking it 8/10 because it doesn't contain any nudity or abusive language. So, i enjoyed it with my entire family. They got their first taste of NETFLIX.

Good basic story
beerrajdavya2 June 2021
Good story Good excecution Child actors are good All others actors are also good Beginning was promising and build up was also good but ending was not as good as I expected

One real complain for the makers U could have made this movie without any prominent children' plot I want to say that these children can show their talent in so many movies den why to cast children in such movies Ease mind on it.

Bluetorque2325 July 2019
Warning: Spoilers
It was a good story line almost to the end. But the final few minutes of the show went Bollywood and ruined it. A guy falls of a 100ft cliff into a flaming explosion face first and still manages to crawl to the typewriter and pledge his soul. Ugh why did you have a Bollywood ending?

Good marination but half cooked chicken.
bagulashish30 July 2019
The series started off too well but it seems the team was in too hurry to finish the shooting. A very good marination but a half cooked chicken. Initially It seemed like we had some series to compare to the likes of American series stranger things. But then towards the end it turned out to be a B grade Hindi horror movie. Seems that the director and cinematographer changed half way.

Rise in the storyline, then sudden fall.
shuvofaysal13 June 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The story had an amazing beginning. The plot was set nicely and the development of the characters are cool. The story was going great considering the flashbacks from 1982 or 1950s. But the last episode ruined the whole thing. I mean seriously? A sword was plunged to Moses but he survived? How on earth? And at the very last part, Amit Roy fell from a cliff and survived? This is hilarious.
