All of Me (1984)
Steve Martin at his best!
3 February 1999
Steve Martin puts on one of his best (if not his best) performance in this movie. Even though we don't see much of Lily Tomlin, Steve Martin almost convinces us that her spirit inhabits his body - such is the quality of his performance. There are some poignant moments between Martin and Tomlin which are appealing. There are also many laugh-out-loud moments when Martin copes with Tomlin's spirit.

A Bug's Life (1998)
Absolutely superb!
6 January 1999
I just loved A Bug's Life!! The animation was superb; so superb that I actually forgot the bugs were simply creatures of animation. The storyline was uncomplicated but so what?! The movie was entertaining with characters one can have an affinity with. One must stick around for the closing credits - the "outtakes" were excellent!

The Newsroom (1996–2005)
Biting Satire
15 December 1998
A superb and biting satire of the politics of a television newsroom. Ken Finkleman seems to have been born to play the role of the newsroom head and the supporting cast also play the roles convincingly.

Political Incorrectness it ain't
24 November 1998
Stephan Elliot constantly touted this film as one of the last movies to attack "political correctness" (whatever that is) before this virus consumes us all in perpetuity. The reality is this movie is vile, offensive and just plain awful. By raising the strawman of "political correctness", I presume that Elliot was hoping that the viewing audience would flock to see this movie. Sorry Stephan, but the audience is more discerning than you suspect (and no, they aren't part of the "political correctness" brigade.

Parker Lewis Can't Lose (1990–1993)
A witty, insightful series but with the right dose of humour
11 November 1998
A superb series which only lasted for three seasons. Each episode was meaningful and whilst there were sight gags, the series developed into monologues about relationships, which was handled in a humorous and witty manner. The characters evolved and in particular, Kubiac went from being a brute to someone with a three dimensional character who actually had feelings and emotions.

Could have done with less swearing
27 October 1998
A great storyline but the regular "F---" utterances spoiled my enjoyment of the movie. What were the voters of the Academy thinking when they handed out an Oscar for best original screenplay? How many F--- words could be clocked up in a whole movie? I know that swearing occurs in many movies but this took the cake.

Sneakers (1992)
A good ensemble movie
25 October 1998
An excellent ensemble cast and an intricate storyline. Much reference is made to the "high-tech" equipment used in the movie but I think the characters' intelligence is overlooked (for example, Martin's recreation of his kidnapping and Whistler's use of his perceptive hearing). The ending had everything except the kitchen sink but still, a worthwhile movie to watch on a Sunday night.

The Doors (1991)
Could have been better
21 October 1998
I didn't know much about Jim Morrison before seeing The Doors and I still didn't know much about him after seeing The Doors. All I learned about Jim Morrison was that he was always under the influence of mind-altering substances and liquid. Oliver Stone could have given us more about Jim's life, e.g. relationships with other band members. If this is what the 60's was like then I'm relieved I was there during that period!
