A wonderful film
8 August 2003
When I first saw the trailers to this movie, I wasn't very interested thinking that it was yet another pirate movie. But I was dragged by friends to go watch it on opening night...and was I ever glad I did!!! This is such an amazing movie! It's about 2.5 hours long but you don't even feel it. Everything in the movie is related...there are no scenes that just come out of nowhere. The character development is really good. I especially like the character of Johnny Depp (as Jack Sparrow). His actions and his screen presence is just amazing. Without a doubt, he steals the show as Captain Jack Sparrow. His British accent is also very convincing. It is hilarious to watch him on screen. He is perfect for that role. Orlando Bloom (as Will Turner) is also very good as is Keira Knightely (as Elizabeth Swann). I was half expecting the traditional 'maiden in distress' role for her but surprisingly, her character is far from that. Geoffery Rush (as Capt. Barbossa) is really good as well. The special effects in this movie are amazing. Definitely a movie to watch this summer.

A good story but.....
4 September 2000
Har Dil Jo Pyaar Karega has all the ingredients needed to make this movie a hit. A great cast as well as songs.

The movie starts out with Raj (Salman Khan) going to Mumbai from Goa hoping to make it big in the music industry. But he finds out that things aren't as easy as they seem to be and he ends up staying at his friend's place. One night, he witnesses an accident and ends up saving the life of Pooja (Rani Mukherjee). Her family thinks that Raj is Pooja's husband as she left home to marry the guy she loves. Raj is not given a chance to explain but then he realizes that this is the opportunity he's been waiting for because her family was very rich. Pooja ends up in a coma but she can hear and see whatever is going on. Pooja's best friend, Jhanvi (Preity Zinta) comes in from the US after hearing about her accident and she meets Raj. She falls for him but doesn't do anything because she thinks that Raj is Pooja's husband. After she finds out that it is not true, she starts to fall in love with him. In the meantime, Pooja has also started falling in love with Raj and when she wakes up from her coma, she identifies Raj as her husband although that is not true.

The rest of the story deals with how the situation is resolved and who finally gets Raj. It is a pretty good movie, but the first half was too long. There is only one song in there which I really like, and that is 'Piya Piya'. The acting done by both the actresses was excellent! As for Salman, he overdoes it in some scenes and he really should think about getting another dress designer for himself! But, other than that, it is a watchable movie. Fans of Rani and Preity should definitely watch this movie!

A pretty good movie

This movie is pretty good but I don't think it lived upto it's expectations. There was a really big hype about this movie so I expected it to be better especially considering that it's a Subhash Ghai movie. But as usual, Aishwarya did an excellent job of acting and she looked glamorous in the movie. Akshaye Khanna did an OK job but the character I liked most was Anil Kapoor's one. Even though he had a small role, it was excellent. The story's about Manav (Akshaye) who's been brought up in England, who comes to Himachel Pradesh with his dad (Amrish Puri) who's a millionaire to look at some land. There, Manav meets and falls in love with Mansi(Aishwarya Rai) who's the daughter of a local folk singer. Mansi is shy at first but it's obvious that they both love each other. Manav's relatives find out about this romance and they advise Amrish Puri that it's best if they move to Bombay. Mansi becomes sad when she learns that Manav is moving but he makes a promise that he will marry her only. Later, Mansi and her dad (Alok Nath) go to Bombay to see Manav. They are treated badly at Amrish Puri's mansion and when Manav badmouth's her dad, she can no longer tolerate it. She sacrifices her love for her dad. They then meet Vikrant (Anil) who's a remix director who thinks Mansi has the potential to be a big star. She does become big and in the meantime, Manav realizes his mistake and pursues her. Vikrant also falls in love with Mansi and even though she doesn't love him, she says that she does and agrees to marry him. Manav is, in the meantime trying to convince Mansi that she doesn't really love Vikrant and it's him that she loves. Mansi is torn between them and on their wedding day, she decides whom she really loves. To know who it is, you gotta watch the movie! The songs are excellent though. It's A.R.Rehman's best other than Dil Se.. My favourite is 'Taal Se Taal Mila' and "Kahin Aag Lage' where Aishwarya looks enchanting. It's a movie worth watching. Enjoy!

I really enjoyed it

This is a superb movie that everyone has got to see. In my opinion, Aishwarya Rai has given her best performance till now. The movie has captured the breathtaking beauty of Rajhasthan and Gujarat and you can also view the cultural settings of India. Everyone is decked in elaborate clothes and jewellery and it's huge family living in a mansion. The story begins with a famous classical singer and his family all living in this huge mansion. He has a student coming from Italy named Sameer (Salman Khan) to learn classical music from him. Sameer meets and falls in love with his beautiful and talented daughter Nandini (Aishwarya Rai). Soon, her father finds out about this affair and orders Sameer to leave and as part of his 'gurudakshina', never to see Nandini again. He leaves and Nandini becomes really depressed. Her parents arrange her marriage with a family friend whose son Vanraj (Ajay Devgan) is a lawyer. Nandini is 'cold' to her new husband and he soon finds out why when he reads Sameer's letters to Nandini. He becomes angry but soon realizes that in order to make his wife happy, he's going to have to find Sameer. He therefore sacrifices his love for her and takes her to Italy in search for Sameer which becomes tough because Nandini doesn't have a picture of Sameer. While they are searching, Nandini gets shot by theives who take all their money and jewellery. Vanraj takes good care of her. While Nandini is in the hospital, Vanraj meets Sameer but he doesn't realize that this is the guy they are looking for. Soon, they become friends. Finally, Nandini has a chance to meet Sameer but she realizes that her feelings for him have changed. So, whom will Nandini chose? To know, you've got to watch the movie! Ajay Devgan has given one of his best performances ever. It is definitely a movie worth watching. Ash looks stunningly beautiful decked in traditional Indian clothes. The songs are also extremely good.
